I'm just not feeling safe enough with this one. The nebulous nature of their identity, as I believe someone put it, is a big flag for me. The prices also are in that too-good-to-be-true area that always scares me, though the idea that the core is a loss-leader or whatnot for the add-ons is a reasonable notion. I'd noticed that structuring. Still... I've grown entirely too conservative for a project this big with these flags. Ignorance or malevolence--I fear one or the other.

some more info in the FAQ and they have started answering questions in the spreadsheet that a backer did and put online for everybody to add questions ... not yet sure about the implications of all the information that's suddenly "flowing" now ...

Now I'm not a native English speaker myself, but in addition to the numerous typos, wonky sentences etc that were / are on the main page ... shouldn't it be "besides" and "effectively" here? Of course, typing mistakes can happen, but on the main page of a Kickstarter? Everything is fine? Not sure ...

I'll wait for the game play and the rule book - if only for entertainment purposes. If this is not a scam, it is still a project very, very likely to fail because those three are in over their heads without any idea how deep they are in (makes me wonder how they got those  prototypes).

You're correct, of course. This is a particularly fun case of Muphry's Law (stet).

 

FWIW, our technical writing group (in the US) publishes documents for products sold in Canada. We employ a translation company to localize the documents for Canadian French and Canadian English. And then we have the documents checked by people at our Canadian branch to make sure that the resulting documents make sense idiomatically, both in general and in the jargon of our industry.

 

Translation is hard. Technical translation, and rules writing is the very definition of technical writing, is harder still.

 

None of this is increasing my desire to back the project.

Not really sure about the answer as most doesnt say much, quite general and nothing expecific. Its seems they arent based on Canada at the end.
I have the feeling they have an idea and component, but not the whole picture yet.

As for translation, for the gamers, yes, you want a correct translation. For the Conan boardgame, several cards made sense in the original French, but, when translated to English, had ambiguities and needed a FAQ (and were not corrected in later versions, iirc). That means you need a translator who understands your game system *and* additional "blind" playtesting by speakers of the translated language to see if there are still any issues with the cards.

So, I am still one the fence and 1 foot out the door, but I will probably give them until the last couple days to convince me. I agree with others that I dont think its a scam, but I am not convinced of their ability to do this yet. As I am not in it for the game anyway I am not fussed bout a poor rulebook, but that is a major concern if you are. They seem to be starting to be more responsive, We shall see.

The Auld Grump - my baby girl has a sleeper tee from Order of the Stick with an axe wielding princess on just such a unicorn. Even without a princess, that miniature moves me closer to pledging....

 

*EDIT* Actually, it makes me want to mod an ogre princess. A weird urge to name her Buttercup.

And I am out. They looked like they were getting better at communication but they have said maybe 8 words in 3 days... a video was promised Saturday, then Sunday, then today and it’s still not up. So, I am out.

Same here. Dropped my pledge. There were too many warning signs, too little communication, and other interesting projects are coming.

I'm down to $1. It might not be a scam, but to me they lack the skills to make it happen (not enough communication, calling backers "rude", breaking promises) ... they lack social skills, they don't take their backers seriously etc ... they totally underestimate the work still to come (honestly, they claim their English is good enough to produce an English version without a native English speaker).

 

And if they are poor (as they say themselves), how come they have three prototypes and lots of miniatures that seem to be production miniatures?

I think other than the prototypes the 'mini' are renders/cgi from looking at the vidoes which wouldn't be that hard to do if one of them has the computer skills

Where are you getting the idea that the minis are in production? I thought they said the ones they were showing so far were 3d prints.
