Not currently. I don't have the space to display them safely. I have plans, though.

 

Bonus: I have participated in a few of the seasonal mini giveaways, so I hope so.

 

 

Side note: The Legion Forscale is still valiantly battling evil and saving lost puppies at Reaper HQ.

It has been many years since I have been at that place.  But, if I were to gather the correct people who have moved on, I would have a wonderful pizza paired with a Brown Mumbler Manhattan (made with Booker's Bourbon, and having about 4-5 ounces of the stuff in there, it's a LARGE martini glass).  After that, I'll have a Mandatory to drink.  And a taxi to get me to my hotel, because there is NO WAY I am driving home.  Also, do not torment me or I am likely to display how long my tongue really is (not sarcasm, and yes, this is nightmare fuel).

Only a couple are out where I see them regularly.  I put them on a bookshelf where I sit and on my windowsill. 

 

The rest are models used for wargames or gaming, so they get put in the bags of holding.

 

And yes, a friend I have painted several miniatures for is displaying 2 of my minis.  A third, and final, for her set is coming this year.

Sorta. We have a shelf above our game table (dinner table) that has our minis on it. Some of them are in a plastic case. I need to get more cases to protect the rest from invading cats. 

 

Some of them used to be displayed at our friend's house, because it was easier to leave the minis there when we used to game there. He still has one that I made for him a few years ago.

Is that how you paint your minis? Are these colors influenced by any particular artwork, description in a book, or appearance in a movie?

 Somewhere, at the back of an old cupboard, on a very dusty shelf, I still have a half-used pot of one of Games Workshops original paints sets. It's called "Orc BROWN".

It’s usually bright cartoonish colors.

(For some of those.)

(The bristled-furry ones I picture as being, ahem... fur-colored.)

The cartoony color notions come from The AD&D Monster manual and everything published in the late 80s/90s by a certain British company that in those days sold pots of a bright green they dubbed: Goblin Green. 

 

Of course the money question is:

What color (colors?) are the Orcs from Middle-Earth (Tolkien)? (Either as he wrote them or as we mentally picture them.) 

My answer is: I. Don’t. Know. 

I read those books at least three times before I ever considered the question.

I used to paint those Goblin Green due to GW influence, still do sometimes, but I also love to expirement with different skintones like reddish or brown/yellow.

Q1A--green/yellow,B-reddish brown, C-yellowish brown, D-green/pale yellow/gray, E-yellow/tan, F-red/brown.

Q2--Yes, no, and maybe. I haven't ever painted kobolds or gnolls ( I should fix that soon...); for the longest time orcs, goblins, and hobgoblins were all green. I eventually started using different shades of green, but doing them in different colors is a relatively new idea to me.

Q3--Orcs were green because the first ever set of miniatures I got was an "Orcs of the Severed Hand" box set by Grenadier. The artwork on the box depicts them as green, so I figured that was 'right'. Stumbling across GW's 'greenskins' (orcs and goblins) only served to reinforce this. For the rest that I've actually painted any of, I generally default to the description in the Monster Manual and/or color artwork in my various role-playing products.

Orks and goblins for me tend to vary anywhere from brown, to orange/red, to even green...  All depends on what I'm looking for.  I could see goblins as purple too, but no idea if I'd paint them that way.

 

As for gnolls, uhm, well now...  I could be silly and go with the basic answer of "like hyenas in the wild, but bipedal/anthropomorphic" but instead I'll go with the answer of "probably like they'd be right at home in a rave alongside all the kandi/kandy kids" ~_^ :P  I intend on painting Toghra with blues and purples for example, and my Reaver is probably going to be a totally not surprising colour combination of black and orange with some reds.....

 

.....And for those who have no idea what candy/kandi/kandy kids are, they're a subsect of the raving community, known for having rather positive outlooks on things, colourful clothing, and of course where they get their name from, the decent amount of sugary treats they're usually carrying on them (and/or beads, since beads don't have that melting issue)

Goblins and orcs - green due to GW influences although I very rarely try something different.

Bugbears - medium to dark brown. I have yet to paint any but have a rough idea of what I want when I do the ones from Bones. Had a bugbear toy as a kid that was dark brown.

Gnolls - light yellowish brown like hyenas. IIRC that was the D&D description. Same as the bugbears I have an idea of how I wan them to look but haven't painted any yet.

Kobolds - rusty orangish red. I think that was the D&D colours. Still haven't painted any of these guys but they're in my queue for this year.

Hobgoblins - I don't know. I'm thinking maybe some shade of dark orange just for variety.

People-y sorts of things in people colors. Fur/hair in the usual fur colors, scaled things in a wider variety of colors. And I pretty much always paint the way that I think of things rather than the way others think that I should think of things.

I very seldom even think about what colors any character in a book might be. Not hair color, eye color, skin color, clothing color, .... Appearance tends to be an unfilled box in my mind. 

 

I'm kind of that way with people I know, too. In almost every case I really have to think about what color the hair of people I've known for many years might be and I can almost never tell you what color anyone's eyes are. Even with my sister, I only know her eye color because people have talked about it.

I had always thought goblins as green, but due to the dastardly influence of @buglips*the*goblin, tangerine is starting to become more prominent.

I paint my goblins/orcs/hobgoblins in muted colors. Muted green tinted with brown. Muted red tinted with brown. Muted anything tinted with enough brown to make it look alive.

 

My serpentfolk, however, I have taken pics of the brightest damn snakes I can find and repeated those patterns.

 

If there's a thing in nature I can crib I will do it. Gnolls are painted like hyenas, kobolds like widdle lizards, catfolk with whatever cat patterns I feel like that day, a stone golem painted as a giant block of jade, etc. I once painted a sandworm like a bright red+yellow fuzzy caterpillar I had a pic of.

Having had another look through my library of pictures of figures I have painted I see that the evil-inclined humanoids are mostly a reddish-yellow greeny-brown...

 

...apart from the bluey-gray ones, obviously. 

 

I wonder why Weta Workshop didn't ask me to help with the Lord of the Rings special effects.

Earth tones, I guess. Like yeah, orcs are green, but they're also brown. And the furry ones are... fur colours. 

 

Well, I guess goblins can be any colour I want. Most might be green or tan, but there's blue, purple, tangerine, yello, and red too.
