Question for Wednesday, July 11th: What's your favorite way to beat the heat?

Go to the mountains. Unfortunately, there's that whole, "Go to work, make money, eat, pay your mortgage" thing that gets in the way.

But going up 4000' almost always does wonders for the heat.

Hide inside with the air conditioner.

If I have to work outside: Do it in the morning if possible, in the evening if necessary, and in the afternoon only if none of the other options are feasible.  Wear a hat.  Drink plenty of water, but nothing really cold.  If I'm really sweaty or dirty, shower when I'm done.

If I have to be inside but the AC isn't an option: Fans.  Set up breezes in rooms if possible.  Drink plenty of water.  Quick shower before bed.

Question for Tuesday, July 10th: What was the last thing you baked?

I got yesterday’s question wrong. The last thing I baked was myself...when I foolishly went outdoors.

Sit in the river with a beer.

It's become less favorite since time at the river comes with two dozen family and family friends who are... let's just say not only is the luster gone but someone's been rubbing the silver veneer off to show the junky tin beneath.

Chocolate, vanilla, mint chocolate chip, fudge swirl, black cherry, and strawberry?

Actually... I think it's peanut butter fudge swirl...

I think Crowley is right, although I thought the green would be pistache.

Personally I can go with almost every flavor.

My favorites are either frozen yoghurt with forest fruits and whip cream or a mix of nut flavoured Ice cream ( walnut, hazelnut, pistache and then with coffee and chocolate ice cream) with fresh nuts, caramel sauce and whip cream add amaretto and I'll be a very happy wolf!

One word: Basement!

If there's one thing I miss of my old basement bedroom when I was a teenager is that the temperature was always "right". No need to heat in the winter (also my room was next to the furnace and wood stove), and no cooling required in the summer.

Now I'm moving to a 2nd floor apartment, without air conditioning and swivel windows that can't take a wall unit (though it's well ventilated).

See, this question, and the last few responses, remind me of why cold weather is better than hot...there's only so much you can take off before you get arrested.

Hydrate, AC, work outside only in the early morning or late evening, hydrate, avoid cooking (crock pots are great for this--delicious hot food ready when you get home, but no standing over the stove to get it), hydrate.

Did I mention proper hydration?

Doing as little as possible while wearing as little as possible.

Another vote for this. Sadly I now live in town and with my mother in law so the little as possible part is more than I'd prefer. On the plus side the house in town has an air conditioner if I can talk the wife into turning it on. She has the bizarre opinion that over 25 C isn't that bad. Swimming is also good. You know it's been to hot for too long when yesterday it was 29 C and I was doing physical work outside and thinking it felt ok.
