Kill Team

Ad Mech are very tempting, but I think I've got enough on my plate for Kill Teams right now.

I've got a Chaos team picked out (mostly cultists), a Space Marine scout team (all metal), a tactical marine team made up of the Japanese Space Marine Heroes that just needs one more bolter marine, I've got enough Tyranid Warriors and Gaunts to make a team, there's Genestealer Cult of course, and I want to convert up an Ork team from the Deathskull klan out of bits that I've found. Oh, and I think I can cobble together a penal legion squad out of Schaffer's Last Chancers and some extra assorted guardsmen from various regiments.

And yeah, I've only played one game so far.

So... maybe Ad Mech in another couple of years.

Well, they managed to value add enough to get me in. Bought the Rogue Trader Expansion because I’ve always like Rogue Traders and this gives me both a Kill Team and a 40K mini-codex to tack them onto an Imperial force.

Honestly not sure if this is an auto correct.

Sigh. Elfing autocorrupt.

Sometimes I think that autocorrupt’s particular flavor of corruption is Slaaneshi.

Is it bad that I've spent so much time around GW players that I never even thought twice about someone talking like that.

Rogue Trader doesn't seem to catch my attention that much as I'm more of a Khorne guy if we're going to get into Chaos, but Kill Team still does.  I'll probably buy in in a few months, alongside an extra killzone or two because terrain never hurts to have more terrain.

...I could easily wind up spending $500 CAD on various things for it...  Which I suppose I don't mind, because I can also make a few kill teams out of stuff I already have.

Seems like I might be waiting anyways, since the starter box is rather difficult to source at the moment... Which I'm okay with, since money is tight this month anyways :P

Yeah, someone on their design team has a serious thing for all things Nurgle.

Still happy with my Rogue Trader set, even if I do feel a little silly picking up the whole thing just for the minis.

From what I've read, there's definitely a generic version of the Commander rules from the Rogue Trader book coming out (hopefully with some nice new minis), and maybe an Inquisitor expansion (although people may be confusing this one with that upcoming Blackstone Fortress game).

Got to play my first game today, well yesterday at this point.  Had a pretty good time with the base game.  5 Sktarii rangers fought 10 neophytes to a draw in the base scenario.  We only used base rules because my some is new to the game and needed to learn the basics of move shoot retreat etc. Without figuring out the slew of command point options.  That will come later.  As it was 90 minutes for setup, rules and play was pretty awesome for a GW game.  I've spent that long in initiative and setup of some games of 40k

I also like the alternating combat, even though keeping track of who shot what is a bit of a pain.  It really nullifies my biggest gripe about warhammer in general

I do hope they add am expansion that includes eldar aspect teams.  I have a set of striking scorpions who would love to ambush some space marines up close and personal...

News on the Kill Team front is the coming release of an expansion called 'Commanders' which will introduce rules for using HQ heroes. I feel like it's the sort of expansion that everyone involved in a game will have to be using; rocking up for a game with your Kill Team from the base game and having a Genestealer patriarch on the opponent's team seems like a recipe for a bad time... but we'll see how they decide to balance it I guess.

whether kill team becomes a constant part of the table is still up in the air as we learn the rules etc., however, making the kill teams is great!  10 minis at tabletop level of painting is something i can turn out in an evening if i have to.  I have a small squad of Grey Knights that has been sitting on my desk forever because it was too small to make a force and to big to be incorporated into something else and partially painted so it was worth not much as melt or sale.  With kill team I now have a very nice little team of GK with a number of options.

Commanders could make a really nice expansion or it could bollix the whole game.  I would love to see aspect warriors autarchs, and even some terminator rules, but actually putting an Astartes commander on the field or an Eldar phoenix lord would skew the fight to basically leader vs leader.

Nice thing is, of course, if it doesnt work, you dont have to use the rules.  I have enjoyed giving the mooks their day in the sun.  Tonight we are going to try a variant of Kill team replicating the Space Hulk environment.  We are using the caverns sets from Dwarven Forge to build the board and it will be Nids vs ?????  My lone Lictor will finally see some table time!

I hope that this new commanders thing doesn't wreck the game. It's supposed to about a squad of nameless dudes operating behind enemy lines on what could turn out to be a suicide mission.

You don't send along anyone who's not expendable on those types of ops.
