New Hobby Area advice/suggestions

nah..  just use a jack to brace the table  ,,, with a 2x4 across under the main supports...  adjust the legs then lower till it touches the floor and remove jack!

Yeah I thought about a pallet jack, but getting one downstairs would be a lot of work too. Hopefully it's all moot and the light fixture can ride the uprights further down without any difficulty. There appears to be a lot of room over the panel board, so I'm hopeful that I can put the LED arms in place and then the shelf over if.

actually I was thinking of the small scissor jacks found in most cars these days.  you can use it on a small stack of scrap lumber so that it is close to the 2x4 and then a couple of twists later the desk is off the floor

You're putting a lot of our hobby areas to shame.

Congratulations on your dream work zone, I'm interested to see what it looks like with everything in place; I'm also looking forward to hearing what its like working at.

Thanks, it's nice to be able to do what I want finally. I put the bins in place last night (not interesting enough for a picture), and some time this weekend will get out to buy some peg board accessories.

Now comes the unpacking of minis, paints, supplies and tools. I more or less got it where I want it (pushed about 8 inches off the left wall, about two inches off the back), but I can't move it anymore. There just isn't room to get leverage on the short side any more, and pushing from the far side isn't doing anymore good (and looks like it might do harm to the carpet were I to succeed).

I guess that means whatever shelving I put to the right of it will have to be around 3 feet wide. That's okay, the desk was the important thing.

Yeah. Last night was a big milestone. I finally got through un-boxing all my minis. I have, on the left wall of the bench, a bookcase of unpainted minis/projects:

The desk itself, finally ready to do some work (at least, in its initial configuration. I'm sure tools will move around as I get my new work flow down):

On the right side of that picture is my painted items for armies that aren't my Undead. All that whitespace makes it look like nothing, but there's actually quite a bit of stuff on there. Remember the desk is 8 feet wide for reference. The Bones Hydra is on the second shelf from the top, far right, for another size reference.

And last, my gaming area. The small set of shelves to the left is on the same wall as the workbench, just after a column in the wall. That set of shelves holds my giant painted Undead army pieces. I still have some minis on the back shelf there in cases, and one box of a couple Skaven war engines that's all packed (no reason to unpack it currently), and a couple boxes with some Dungeon Saga  stuff, but I'm not really pressed about taking them out of their boxes. The ruins from DDS2 are at the front of the shelf second from top on the right, for scale. 60 zombies that I had finished right as I was packing up sit on my 6'*4' table, waiting to be multibased:

Sweet, this should buy me a little breathing room with Mrs. Gargs' since I thought I had sent lot of unpainted minis. Though to be fair, I probably do have more unassembled minis. :)

Oh, the tubs on top of the first picture are all unassembled, left is Bones, right is sprues. And there's an AoS starter kit under the desk behind the blue/grey tackle box, which holds several hundred unassembled Skaven.

I have a problem.

Ok, this puts me in even better standing. I think the tubs in the first picture probably more or less evened me out. Then you added the several hundred . . . errr . . . 20 skaven and that put you over the top. :)

only thing I disagree with is I don't see a problem here. After all, we always need 20 more than what we have. Of course, convincing Mrs. Gargs that there are only 20 minis in next year's Kickstarter shipment might take some doing. ::D:
