So I'm currently in the stages of prepping Marthrangul for a contest. I'm also painting the Frost Giant Queen as a backup entry. So once I get started of love all the C&C I can get. I have a little less than a month to do him in.

The theme of the contest is "paint green for mental health awareness." So Marth is going to be a green dragon. I've already liner-ed him in green liner and have started putting down Pine Green on the skin on his head and between the scales.

Got most of his skin done, missed a few places I'll shave to come back to. But started basing the belly scales.

Don't have Walnut Brown but I'm sure I've got something close. I do have stained ivory.

Charred Brown and Muddy Soil are both close to Walnut Brown.

Don't have those either. Sounds like a trip to the game store is in order. (Even though I was there 2 days ago.) PaintRack informs me that Dark Skin and Red Shadow are close. I think if I mixed it the right way I might be able to get extremely close.

I considered Dark Skin, but it's notably lighter when comparing the bottles.

 

Red Shadow on the other had might play nicely off the green on the rest of the model.  It definitely reads as red, but you can darken up by adding black.

Are you doing the top of the head as a bony crest or just the long horns as bone?

Haven't totally decided yet. I've almost got the body base coated but haven't really touched the head.

Here's almost all of the current progress. Lighting isn't great but this is the best I can do right now.

The wing on the right shows the underside of the wing. I feel like the membrane should be brighter since the underside of the body is so bright.

 

Also, decided on making his head a bony crest. Now to just pick colors for that tonight or in the morning. Done for the day.
