Moderator Froggy the Great Posted September 20, 2002 Moderator Share Posted September 20, 2002 Apparently Blizzard Software was being coy and sending coded messages to one another on the site about the new game that was being announced yesterday. This had the effect of driving every Blizzard fan buggy just before the announcement. I guess the Nukes in question have something to do with that. Chrome
Oh God, its going to be a console only game. :( Another good developer dumps the people who made it famous for the quick riches of consoles. Pathetic. :(
Leech
*Looks really confused* Erm, anyone care to cut through this mumbo jumbo and explian in plain english? :o)
lstormhammer
In the plainest english I can come up with. Blizzard is making a new Starcraft game. Unfortunatly, they're not making it for the PC or Mac, which is how Warcraft/Starcraft/Diablo got them lots and lots of money. Because Blizzard is making the game for 'Console' gaming, I both love and hate it. Love for it is Starcraft, and all is good and right in the world for that. Hate for the fact it's on a Console. For the record: We have a Nintendo, Super Nintendo, DreamCast, PS2, PS1, An Atari 2600, Atari 5200, and of all things: An 'intellivision'. We have enough consoles already! --lstormhammer
wolf
Now that is so wrong. In doing that, they've just dumped a large fan base since I for one, am not going out of my way to buy a console just to play the "New" Starcraft. I'll stick with Brood War on my PC, thanks. Moderator Froggy the Great Posted September 20, 2002 Moderator Share Posted September 20, 2002 I'm not up on this, nor do i particularly care, but it does strike me as another stupid thing to do. I'm much more likely to play a game on the computer I already have and runs most things, than a proprietary console I need to go out and buy, which doesn't run everything. lstormhammer
ON the other hand.... My lerned collegue has pointed out this one truth: If it's on a console, I won't have to worry about hero rushing tactics, some twerp using hacks and calling me a n00b in multiplayer, or any possible lag problems. So it's not that bad an idea. Besides, I'm more than positive someone out there's working on a PS2 emulator. --lstormhammer
sdnelson
If it's on a console, I won't have to worry about hero rushing tactics, some twerp using hacks and calling me a n00b in multiplayer, or any possible lag problems. Hmm... all those are things you could say about miniature games too... No hacking in CAV. Though, if you played against me today you may experience lag... I didn't get much sleep last night... I'm not that enthralled with multiplayer gaming. Unless I pick the group of people from people I know, I find that I end up gaming with the same type of idiots that I have to share the road with every day- inconsiderate, reckless, rude, stupid, mindless, self-centered, drunken dung monkeys. Of course I've met some cool people online, but for every one of them there are 2-3 quasi-literate baboons who think that cheating, bigotry, and inane behavior are the highest forms of artistic expression. I'm frustrated moreso by Microsoft's X-Box and their exclusive contracts with developers to ONLY develop for the X-Box and NOT the PC. I mean the X-Box runs a very similar OS to Windows, so conversion from X-Box to PC should be easier than most ports, but Microsoft is so Mein Kampf about dominating the gaming market that they're screwing PC gamers to boost their console. Crimson Skies 2 is coming out as an X-Box ONLY game. WTF? The original Crimson Skies computer game sold very well, and there are more flight sim oriented people playing on PC's than consoles... so why the console only move? I just wish the DOJ would have broken Microsoft into a thousand little pieces, each one not even having the complete rights to produce a single product, not even a mousepad... I hope Bill Gates loses his butt on the X-Box. I hope it goes the way of Microsoft Bob! Not that I'm bitter or anything... :D
lstormhammer
You are right, SDN. But I would like to point out this: No matter what you play, how you play it, or what precautions you take, some horse-faced baboon will find a way to make your day miserable. 6 billion people in the world. Only one of you. INfact, with odds that stacked against you, you're more likely to be mugged by an overweight Christian Slater carrying an Uzi than you are finding someone online who doesn't annoy the carp out of you. --lstormhammer
nadinbrzezinski
Yeap, yaep, yeap, he said it well... that said, good grief, I like that game, to be honest... that might get me back into computer playing kicking and screaming
Moderator Froggy the Great Posted September 21, 2002 Moderator Share Posted September 21, 2002 I've never been able to click fast enough. I prefer first-person shooter types.
sdnelson
Yeah, Team Fortress Classic is my favorite, at least I get to shoot the obnoxious, rude, ignorant, blah, blah, blah, bleepity-bleeps. Especially the Turkeyburgers map with low gravity...
General308
I have no problem with this. Excusive games is nothing new to the video game world. So it isn't suprising. I decided earlier this week it was wiser to bye a Xbox that to upgrade my PC for my current gaming needs anyways. Xbox is 199 and will give me that second DVD player I need anyways. So i come out ahead. Personaly I have no problem with a new Console every few years since they cost much less than a PC.
