CAV: Strike Ops III Kickstarter September 19th 2018

Wonder what those bags look like if you open them and spread out the various individual baggies?  Okay, but... Yeah.  They take up a decent amount of space...

^For those wondering....  That table in the background is something like 36" wide.  Yeah, they take up just a bit of space when being inventoried... ^_^   Terrain stuff was easy enough to inventory all the parts, CAVs I'll inventory parts tomorrow, because I'm not opening each bag when I'm this tired.

Oh, right.  Those with keen eyes will notice I repacked a few different things into a single bag, like the k-rails, shipping crates, tank traps, and trenches...

Love the detail that's on a lot of the terrain pieces to say the least.  Depending on how a few things go tomorrow, the curiosity part of me is tempted to see just how much of a table all that terrain can cover...

I am still not done taking inventory. About 2/3rds of the CAV to inventory. I am gluing legs and non moving parts on as I inventory and sorting by faction which is taking longer. So far the detail is awesome.

Only issue was some of the terrain storage tanks were a tad warped-but that can be hid as damage when painted up.

I've noticed similar in the tall tanks I tried to quick-fit, but like you said, shouldn't be too hard to conceal through various methods.  This is also where I'm glad I regularly use gel superglue, as it can help with small gaps ^_^  Today's task is going through all those CAVs and making sure all the parts are there, plus doing a quick test of all of my paints.

Spoilering this in order to say...  What's behind the spoiler is more than likely going to come across as a bit of a rant.  I've re-written it a few times to do what I can to tone it down, but yeah.  Short version - 4/12 paints are DOA despite having looked okay at an initial quick glance (which is why I'd started doing inventory on the harder things to verify due to their sheer volume/quantity).

Spoiler

Welp, four of the paints are DOA.  One definitely froze through and through since it's a giant chunk of solid paint on one side, and water on the other, and three others won't mix (can't hear the agitator bead moving around at all), sound incredibly thick, and reek like house paint when you open them up - almost to the point of just how strong Citadel's old Chaos Black was (it had a rather potent nose and eye cringing scent).

Yet Ron wonders why I'm campaigning rather hard to do a limited release of Reaper's winter seasonal paints in the summer so this doesn't happen to people living in colder climates.  Third package IN A ROW shipped from the US (two were from Reaper in late 2018/ early 2019) that's had paint in it in the winter, and at least a portion of them didn't survive the trip (the two from Reaper had promos and/or samples thrown in, which most didn't make it).  I'm also still rather surprised that Silver Fox shipped the packages regular parcel post (yeah, the slowest option possible, during the holiday rush AND when it's been on average -10C overnight throughout the areas where it's travelled) when regular orders through the website ship Expedited, which is easily twice as fast.  I know there's costs and whatnot, but it was $49 USD, hence my surprised.  It would have appreciated being notified it would be shipped this way, as I would have been a lot more insistent about having my paint held until spring (or whenever it went up for retail sale)

Got some stretching/squishing issues with my shipping crates all along the one side - it's like they pulled them out before letting them properly cool, because it's only in the one corner.  Most of the other terrain that's multi-part was easily assembled, although the tall silos had to have a tab trimmed in order to actually fit together.  Small dual silos also look like they didn't get properly filled in the mold, since there's a noticeable 1/8" or so droop on the one silo near where the tabs are.  It's almost like they trimmed it too closely at the factory or something, since there's stressed plastic at that spot.  Nothing that can't be fixed with a bit of extra gel superglue or other filling material, but something I wanted to comment on.

Overall, I'm happy, most of the issues are minor, or just need a bit of work, but yeah, definitely glad I got most of that terrain assembled before double checking the paint.  I'll send an email in when I'm not so choked about 33% of the paints being DOA, and I've doubled checked all of my CAVs have all the right parts.

Hey @CAVBOSS I was assembling all the rigs last night and found that I was actually short one Flail tank and one Hunter tank. Do I need to email you at Talon as I have never been able to post on the KS page.

well, inventory done, everything accounted for (I believe this is the first Bones/CAV kickstarter I've backed where there hasn't been something minor to report!) No time to do anything with the models as yet though (but that's in keeping with the fact I haven't done anything much with the CAV 1 and 2 models I have!)

Nice to see the retail versions up on the site, since it means additional terrain can be acquired now, but... Really would be nice if us Canadians could also get our paws on those specials that are being run right... ^_^

We are working on a way for CA orders that want some of the specialty items that they wont have at the CA warehouse to order direct (and pay shipping) and have us ship from here but its going to take some recoding on the site and I haven't had a chance to get to it. We will probably offer free shipping but the min amount would be $75 to $100 USD for an order to qualify. Still need to run some numbers (and everyone went up on shipping again in the last two weeks so the rest of us can subsidize the sweet shipping deals they give to you know who!)

Glad to hear such.  Makes logistics easier (more or less, at least in not having to stock inventory in multiple areas) ^_^

Its easy for the mass stuff like all the plastic...but for the smaller runs and such it just doesn't work very well.

Finally got it! (after two weeks of knowing it was at the post office)

Everything is accounted for. :winkthumbs: The core set, a copy of all the non-resin vehicles, and the two paint sets (all flowing normally).

I thought I was missing an arm, but it turn out that one of the baggies was opened in the larger bag and soon found it.

Brief word of introduction. I know next to nil about CAV. My current interest in it is solely from a painting perspective. With that in mind, please excuse any blunders I make.

So, I'm a painter looking for some cool stuff to paint. I see CAV's mechs. I think "I like mechs, those look cool, I think I'll grab some". Then my eyes flicker upwards towards where it says "10mm scale". I think you can see where this is going.

Long story short, how big are these? It looks like they come on 1" hexes, and $4.99-$6.99 is quite a lot to charge for a small mini (in my opinion, of course).

      Many thanks, all!

      About
      Hello everybody,
We want to introduce you to Iván Sánchez, aka “Blocsanchez”, one of the members of HeraModels. We are thrilled to share with you his first sketchbook “Wasteland”. Within the last year, Iván has been working in the content of this book what wasn't easy to combine with his daily work of miniature concept artist in our small study. Iván is very passionate about traditional drawing, that is the reason why every design in this book is a pencil sketch except for the cover that is digital.
With this and our future projects, our objective is to create an editorial line of fantastic art. We decided we didn't want a typical sketchbook, collecting drawings from forgotten notebooks where you can find all types of characters; we wanted to make something personal and with an argumental line.
Then, after a lot of thinking, we decided to make a book collection of different races. “Wastelands” is the first chapter of the collection and embodies illustrations and sketches of barbaric warriors of the barren lands.
Original Art of "Wastelands" example for pledges #5 & #6  The original book contains 48 pages but with your help we hope this number keeps increasing. We have selected the best designs with more than 50 characters and we hope all of them can be published in the book. We want the book to be handy and user friendly that is why its size is 17x24cm (6,7”x9,5”). Through the campaign, we will unlock different rewards that will make possible to increase the number of pages of this book and will vive you the possibility to get exclusive products only in Kickstarters. In this campaign, you´ll not only get our sketchbook “Wastelands”, it will be possible to choose the option to get an original sketch made by Ivan inside your book or to get one of the original illustrations printed on it. Later we will explain the campaign more widely.
Original Sketch example for pledges #3 & #4  Later on we will explain every detail of the content in each pledge to make sure that you get what you really want. Besides, while the campaign goes on and we unlock other products we will update the content of each pledge.
For those who have chosen pledge #5 or #6 you could choose between one of the following original illustrations, you just need to send us an email echen you make the reservation with the number of the illustration that you prefer. You can see the images in a bigger size in our website .

      Story
Welcome to our newest Kickstarter! You'll notice this one is a little different. In this Kickstarter we are offering the STL Files of some of our classic models for you to print on your home 3D printers. These files, created and designed by John Bear Ross, offer tons of combinations and entrance into an amazing realm of sci-fi models. These models come scaled in 15mm AND 28mm!
Now, keep in mind, these are for personal use, not for commercial or resale. We own the copyrights and designs but for the sake of this Kickstarter, we are allowing the files to go to you, our loyal supporters.
So why are we doing this Kickstarter?
Short answer…We are raising funds to increase our in-house printing capabilities. This will allow us to develop more detailed models, models in larger scales, and bring out even more product lines. Rebel Minis is growing and we want you guys to be part of it.
But we can’t do it without you, so please consider pledging, and spreading the word!
      Thank you,
      Mike and JBR
      The Reward
We have only one. ALL the files listed to be available for one pledged amount.  You get the files to everything you see scaled in both 15mm and 28mm.
Your pledge of $40 gets the whole kit n’ caboodle.  Once again, this is for PERSONAL USE! You do not have permission to distribute, copy or sell the files. *C'mon man, you know that ain’t cool!*
      Stretch Goals
If we reach our goals, we will unlock stretch goals. These files will be added to the reward and download at the same time.
      Delivery
After the Kickstarter ends, and if it is successful, you will get a survey to confirm your email. Later, when they are ready, we will email you the links for download.
      The Files
Look at all these Glorious Files, they can be yours!
Can I print the weapons and vehicles on FDM and Resin Printers?
Yes, everything should be printable on both types of printers found in common use. Most of our prints are optimized for desktop resin printers like the Anycubic Photon or the Elegoo Mars, but FDM should be able to support most builds. If we encounter files that are too large for resin printers, we will happily go back and supply sliced and optimized files to be printed in smaller chunks

My LFGS had a painting contest on its FB Star Wars Legion page a bit ago.  2 weeks to paint up a squad of at least 4 figures. As creativity counted, I decided to set my white and black paint aside and paint something besides Stormtroopers.
I took a look through the Rebel scum I'd acquired and really like the poses and sculpts for the Rebel Veterans.
I'd planned to do the whole box of 7 figures, but (as anyone who's seen my WIPs knows) I'm not the fastest painter.  I'm lucky if I can get one figure done in two weeks.
So I quickly decided to just do 4 figures for the contest.

I liked how they came out, and they did get "best painted" in the contest,  so I guess they are alright.

It then took me another 6 weeks to finally finish the last 3 figures (see?  Sloooooow.)
But the whole unit is finally done.

Should probably read the rules on them sometime soon.....

Now back to all those Stormtroopers.
