This one always gets me looks in restaurants, but I don't think it's weird:

when I have eggs, hash browns and sausage, I _always_ order the eggs over easy, and then mix it all together on the plate so that the hash browns and sausage are coated with the runny egg yolk.

Oh gosh that sounds so very amazing right now

Wednesday, September 5: Tell us about a time something started out badly for you, but ended well.

The biggest thing I can think of is probably getting dropped from my Master's program in Speech-language Pathology halfway through it due to not-quite high enough grades. I couldn't tell at the time, but I was doing very poorly in both physical and mental health; my teachers saw what I couldn't, and were kind enough not to let me back in when I petitioned to be allowed to continue.

Due to not being in grad school, I was able to recover and pursue a different career path, one that I'm finding far less stressful and more geared toward my natural talents in organization and detail-oriented tasks. I probably would have been just fine as an SLP, but trying to get through grad school was killing me slowly. I'm doing much much better now, and I'm able to better empathize with others who struggle with deep depression and anxiety on a regular basis. I wouldn't go through it again for anything, but in retrospect the whole experience made me a stronger person.

Huzzah!

Sixteen and change years ago, my then-girlfriend left me.  We had been living together for over a year at that point.  When I came home, all of her stuff was gone.  I was... upset.

I didn't eat for three days.

I do think this break up helped me mature and made me a better person, not to mention got me out of a relationship that really wasn't working.

I was deliberately not looking for a relationship when I met a wonderful young woman a few months later.  She and I started officially dating that December.   Our wedding anniversary is next week.

I've been thinking long and hard for an answer to this question. Most of my life is about struggle and perseverance with too many things being way more difficult than they should be. People that know me well often say if I didn't have bad luck I'd have no luck at all. But Xiwo Xerase's story works for me too. Got dumped and it hurt but I realised I'd done everything I could and she was crazier than I should have to put up with. 9 months later I met the girl who'd become my wife. She's crazy too but we've been married over 15 years.

I recently discovered Cranberry Mustard

...correction Cranberry Honey Mustard.

I like to spread peanut butter* on Hershey Special Dark bars. *Either kind.

I like to roll a slice of Muenster Cheese around a dash of creamy peanut butter. It resembles a Canoli. But no pastry, cheese on the outside instead of inside, maybe a bit less sugar.

@Cranky Dog I am right there with you regarding the soup and crackers. And the same goes for chili.

What is the funniest actual name you've heard of someone having?

Spider-Man.

Yes, it's true. I came across that account a few times when I was working for AT&T Wireless, and the hot notes always popped up to inform the rep that yes, this was this particular person's legal name that he had changed it to.

Not really able to think of any I've had personal experience with, so instead I'll go with Duke Newcomb, who was a US Marine, who liked a certain game so much he had his name legally changed.  It's more of a groaner kind of name to me though, because it's a rather stupid one to choose...

You worked for Convergys too?  It feels like that was almost a rite of passage for Canadians at one point... :p

Real life name from one of my college teachers was Désiré Laliberté. It French, it sounds exactly like "Desire Freedom". The first name is old fashioned (himself in his 50s back then), but not unheard of. And the family name is relatively common.

Though the funnier ones I know of are from a skit, where the tendency to carry both parent's surnames for several generations can lead to interesting puns.

I had a professor in college who's name was Dr. Fuc and yes, it was pronounced as if it had a K on the end.  He was an oriental man who obviously didn't speak English much outside of work.  The students, kept trying to pronounce his name as Dr. Fook, trying to avoid the obvious English homophone.

One day during a lecture, a student started to him a question, saying "Dr. Fook, how does..."

He immediately, threw the chalk on the floor, shattering it into a few hundred pieces and screamed, "My name is NOT Dr. Fook! It is Dr. Fuc. Fuc, Fuc, Fuc, Fuc, Fuc, Fuc, Fuc!  Stop dishonoling my famiry!"  He then stormed out of the room and slammed the door.  We all sat there staring at each other for a few tense minutes, then broke out in nervous laughter and left the hall.

(Sorry for my transcription of his dialect, but that was how he talked.)
