Wednesday, September 5: Tell us about a time something started out badly for you, but ended well.

Almost got kicked out of a class for elfpoop I was falsely accused of, met Sir Cyr while sneaking into the lab on weekends to do assignments. Completed class.

Wednesday, September 5: Tell us about a time something started out badly for you, but ended well.

September 1998. I worked customer service for Computer City which was in the death throes of being bought out by CompUSA. I was in a T-Bone car wreck. Ambulance took me in because of back pain. My truck was totaled.

Initial x-ray showed nothing, and I spent a few months in physical therapy. I was "better," but still had a lot of pain. My managers were cool and understanding and allowed me a stool at the register to help alleviate my pain.

In comes the new management team. Away go the old managers, and my precious stool. When I approached the managers, I was told I needed a doctor's note. I ended up back in physical therapy because of them. Got the doctor's note, then was promptly placed on "medical leave of absence." Not my choice nor my suggestion. I walked in at 8:00 am one morning after a 2 hour bus ride to work and was told this was my new designation. Not fired or let go, so no unemployment for me.

Took a civil service exam, ended up where I work now.

Sixteen years later, after a series of different doctors, found one who took more x-rays. Oh, look, my spine had been fractured and as a result of time and misdiagnoses, had slipped and is putting pressure on my spinal cord.

At least I have a good, far better paying job and no longer work retail.

And CompUSA? Bankrupt.

Life? Is that too real? For sure this past year - I was laid off and learned about several medical issues, so it's been.... a year.

I tried to keep in contact with folks on the forums, but there's only so many times you can say you're fine or talk about how you're not.

But it ended with ReaperCon!

Nothing's been "fixed" but my little art heart is so much happier, and that goes a long way. :)

My career in teaching started out rocky. I had a rough start finding a job at a time many were getting pink slips. Then I found a job with a team that was actively working against each other and fostering a negative environment for disruptive students to thrive in. This coupled with an admin that was equal parts a loaf and willing to give newbies a hard time. I struggled with being forced to teach inside the box when all the solutions were outside the box.

Two years in and things turned around greatly. I am now out of the classroom in the same district, but spending my time helping teachers find ways to think outside the box. Striving for innovation and meeting student needs is my primary goal...and it has driven me to learn more than ever.

Saturday, September 1:

Do Wolpertingers warble or do they just fall down?

Yes they do, especially after a sneeze. Which is why you must say gesundheit afterwards.

Monday, September 3: If you were cooking the last BBQ you could ever have, what would you have?

I could reeeally go for a mix of German and Italian sausages.

Tuesday, September 4: What weird food combinations do you enjoy?

Most forms of soup with a elf load of crumbled crackers. Enough to turn it into a thick, chunky, savory paste.

This one always gets me looks in restaurants, but I don't think it's weird:

when I have eggs, hash browns and sausage, I _always_ order the eggs over easy, and then mix it all together on the plate so that the hash browns and sausage are coated with the runny egg yolk.

This sounds so delicious right now.

Potatoes. Are god's perfect dirt fruit. You can have them for breakfast, lunch, dinner, midnight snacks. They don't make great deserts, but that's why god also gave us chocolate.

Come, worship with me at the altar of the Potato. :eats nacho fries:

Mmm... I need to make some mashed potatoes...

Hmmm, I tend to be more familiar with the other way around..

Maybe if I count my divorce ( I was 27) as a start of some kind.

It started out feeling bad and sad and all, and now I'm in a happy place again.

Yeah... I mean, I think I'll steal this. So much elfing broccoli at the end but it was worth it to get to here.

Openfaced cheeseburger with all the fixings (meat, lettuce, tomato, dill pickles, red onion, mustard, mayo) smothered in chili and topped with sour cream.

As a side to this scrumptious dish, thick cut potato wedge fries with chilé con queso.

I use Dijon mustard as a salad dressing. *shrug*

I like sour cream mixed with red salsa as a salad dressing.

Husband has turned me on to putting syrup on my breakfast potatoes. Because I wasn't having enough of a blood sugar spike

Oh, and I like putting tuna in my mac & cheese, which is apparently weird based on what a few people have told me, but perfectly normal to me.

I do the tuna and mac & cheese. Just a tuna cassarole.

My kids love my homemade mac & cheese with diced ham.

Well, there was the time at an amusement park when I was very young and tried to climb up the ladder for the slide at the pool, but got scared and turned around... Only to slip and fall fifteen feet headfirst onto the concrete...

And didn't even end up with a scar, nevermind break my skull.

Or when I flipped my car onto it's roof off a ten-foot embankment doing 70 mph and landed on my head with no seatbelt.

And only ended up with a few glass cuts.

As you can tell, most of the things I could list for this involve me not dying as the part about ending well, lol.
