my husband and i made the mistake of walking to the chik fil a last year, we regretted it. Very hot walk. This year we'll probably have a car, either drive ourselves or rent one

There's also a Walmart right across W. University Dr.

While I have no other information about this because it was not something that we opted for - there were a couple of days where the hotel did a lunch special. My memory's failing me on what they offered and it's possible that they were actually grilling by the pool? I believe that's the food that TripleH is remembering seeing delivered to gaming tables. That was not something that they offered every day, as far as I know, so it would be a hard thing to plan on.

They had a grill going out by the pool a couple of times that I saw, but no delivery options that I was aware of. You ordered, and hung out and waited for it to get done. At least that's what I did...

I know the restaurant would deliver.  While I was helping Dallas clean up the rpg areas, there was a gamer who had a steak on a plate in front of him while playing 5e. I asked him & he confirmed it.

I had the Houlihan's fish n chips every day and loved it.  On Sat I took my daughter for dinner there and she too got the fish n chips and is not hooked on the dish. :)

Did they give you malt vinegar?  One thing I noticed weird about US restaurants is that they never give you any vinegar.  Even the fish n chips place we went to in Metarie didn't.  It might seem a weird thing to culture shock over but it really freaks me out.  It's sort of... unnatural.

Nope. I usually have to ask for it at places.  Been to some that had it on the table if that was one of their main items on menu.

Oddly, the restaurant that was attached to the hotel I stayed at in Las Vegas/LVO had malt vinegar as one of the condiments on the table. I can't recall if there was any fish on the menu thou. Heck the steak I ordered was a off the menu item. It was more or less a bonus meal item if you stayed at the hotel (check!) & signed up for their Player's club (casino credit) (nope, didn't gamble). If I had signed up the steak meal would have been 9 dollars but I didn't so it was 12 bucks. It was a great piece of meat & the sides were great as well. Well worth the extra I paid, the piece was more or less a hunk of vs a normal piece you'd get.

I was really hoping to attend again this year, and sadly it doesn't look like we'll be able to.

BTW.....There is an IHOP going in right in front of the Hotel/Convention center. It should be open by RCON 2019. ...and yes definitely walking distance...closer than Cheddar's.

Just about every pub here in the Northeastern US has vinegar available, but you sometimes have to ask for it.

If you need HP Sauce, you may be on your own. I don't think I've encountered it on this side of the Atlantic.

The thing I always have to wrestle with is whether to pack my own supply of maple syrup to use at breakfast. So far, I have muddled through without, but it's tempting.

I first encountered HP Sauce while at Disney World.  Love the stuff.  It can also be readily found at the grocery stores here in Austin, TX.

If you're in some place that styles itself as an English/British/Scottish/Irish Pub and they don't have HP Sauce they are , to put it delicately, perpetrating a falsehood.

For those who have never enjoyed this savory delight, think Lea & Perins sauce raised to the square of delicious.

I need to find a real breakfast diner over that way.  Took the family to IHOP last year and it had been a while since we visited one.  We were not impressed and I kind of remember why I stopped going.  Pancakes are a bit special to me and I have gotten real picky as of late when it comes to having good pancakes. :)

Who am i kidding. If it requires me getting in the car and  going to a place then I will probably just stick to Fish n Chips.

There was certainly a lot of construction happening around last year. So there should be many more choices available.

Then again, I ate large enough breakfasts at the hotel that I could easily last until supper time. Then came happy hour.

I'm curious what pops up around the hotel too.  IHOP sounds yummy.

We've been talking about how we'll approach this year.  Last year we didn't leave the convention center very much, and ended up eating at Houlihan's quite a bit (which we enjoyed).  This year, I vowed to find a grocery store after we check in and make better use of the room's fridge and kitchenette.  For lunches, I'll happily eat PBJ or a quick sandwich after the mega-breakfast (and save some $$ for the vendor hall).
