I have tried loads of times over the years to get my grandkids interested in one of my hobbies, but not too much luck for the most part, Although my oldest grandson does play in our weekly RPG game. He did mention about a month ago that since he finally had a job he was going to earn some money for paints because he was keyed up to paint his Dark Souls board game minis. So he got a couple Reaper beginner paint sets from Papa for his birthday last week :) So who knows, maybe some year he will come with me if I get to go back after this year My son is turning 9 soon and like all the men in my family, has serious 'ants in the pants' so getting him to sit down and chill for a convention is a no-go. Maybe when he's a teenager.
Dimbus 9 Report post Posted April 11 On 4/7/2019 at 7:17 AM, Chaoswolf said: First off, welcome to the forums! I can't say for certain, since classes haven't been announced yet for this year, but I can say that there have been a fair number of intro classes every year that I've been attending (4 so far). What kind of intro are you looking for? "I painted my first figure yesterday", "I've been doing this for 6 months and want to get better at (fill in the blank)", or "I've never even touched a paint brush before"? About classes: I would recommend no more than 2 per day; you get a lot of good info in the classes, and you need some time to process it before dashing off to the next class. I'm not sure what you mean by 'big day', but Thursday is the first official day of the con; lots of excitement and cool stuff going on. That said, if you can only make it for Friday and Saturday, that's cool, too! Maybe a good idea might be to wait until the classes are announced, and then see which classes you're interested in are on which day, and make your plans based on that info. I hope this helped a little. If you have more questions, please don't hesitate to ask. Thank you for the welcome and all the advice. I have been painting (not always well) since I got into Battletech, last millenium. My daughter is 9 and is the impetus for going, so I was happy to see in the later comments that there are plenty of kid friendly events. Looking forward to it

I am tall and lanky and look like I could be her grandfather. :) 1

I'm not sure on the Adventure league games thou. Note: last year they had a "just games ticket". Ie. Was a little cheaper then the general admission ticket.

Paradoxical Mouse 12483 Report post Posted April 19 So I will probably be able to go. Whether or not I can convince Mr. Mouse to come with is still up in the air, however. 7
Jeepnewbie 2223 Report post Posted April 23 I'm hoping to go. I finally got approval for leave to go to it. Sadly all the rooms were already booked. So looking either for a cheap hotel within walking distance or hoping I can get a rental car.

You'll only miss the auction/raffle and closing ceremony. Not much in terms of major events. The auction was a lot of fun when I attended last year, though. So I suggest if there isn't a major time/budget concern, go ahead and stay.

I would take the precaution of putting my paints into zip-lock bags, with each small bag if you have more than one, inside a larger zip-lock. You can fit a lot of paints into a couple of quart sized bags and then put inside a gallon size. In any case, double bag them both in case of any mishap and as a protection for your paints. Label your bags with a magic marker "Artists Acrylics" and have your brushes and other supplies in the same luggage. That way if they do get opened for inspection the people doing the snooping will see paints and brushes and not random nefarious chemicals. Hope to see you there, Watch for the tentacles.
