I'm sure he'd not turn down a knight or two, though, if you come across any in your travels. He really likes their crunchy shells. >Bold Off< Felt great about all the things I got done on my list, up until packing. I've had a couple suitcases open on the floor for the past few days and have been chucking all those little "must remember this" things into them. Pulling all that out, sorting and actually packing it all took longer than expected. Plus now I need to move everything from my going-to-be-checked bag to a bigger suitcase (weight isn't an issue, but space is), so now I'm re-repacking. I was on track to actually get 6 hours of sleep tonight, too. Looks like ~4 hours + plane naps it is! (My plane leaves in 6 hours) Huzzah! --OneBoot :D Your best chance of finding Crunchy Knights while on the highways and byways will be at any one of the Knights Inn motels. Morning Weather in Denton: Thunder Storms, according to the TV weather report the first of the season so the roads are extra slick. Y'all be carefull out there. Loim
@ Everyone who is traveling the next few. Stay safe. Have a safe and uneventful trip. Hope to see you all at RCon. I'll have gummi bears while the supply lasts in lieu of ribbons since I didn't know if I'd be able to go until the last minute. So, find me and trade me a hug or a fist bump for gummis.

GEM I still have 30 hours for the water to soak in and the slick clay mud to slide off the road before we get there. Hope everyone still on the road is having a fun safe trip! Due to previous experiences we are travelling by direct flight. May not be my favorite airline but it doesn't have a chance of leaving me stranded in the middle of a flight!
Moderator OneBoot Posted August 27, 2019 Moderator Share Posted August 27, 2019 So...learned a thing today. Not sure if this is a new policy or if I just never ran into it before, but at least with United (or maybe it's just my local airport) you can't check bags if it's less than 45 mins before your flight leaves. I did some horrified goggling at the nice lady behind the desk as she explained my options: 1) fly without my bags 2) call United customer support or 3) wait until the entire line was depleted and she could help me personally. 10 mins of fuming on hold later, the line was gone and I'd resigned myself to having to get a different flight. I let her know that I didn't care how I got there as long as it was before Wednesday evening, but she found a different flight that actually arrives 30 mins earlier than my previous one. So, I'm in a seat on the plane, vibrating slightly from nerves but very grateful! Huzzah! --OneBoot :D 15 2

That's a little new that they wouldn't let you check them at all. I ran in to something similar once before but it was a "There's no way we can get your bag on this flight, they're going to be on a different one and you'll ahve to come back to the airport to get them" that was a southwest flight, though, and they're pretty good about going above and beyond on bags.
Cranky Dog
Last day before leaving, my list is nearly complete: QR codes are printed (I printed a bunch of them until I finally saw a "Complete Order" one that also got printed.) Hotel address printed (since I'm a foreigner, US security want to know where I'm staying) Diorama is secured with duct tape inside a plastic container. Luggage is slowly filling up. Clothes: check! Booze to share: check! Thermoses (for coffee, tea and/or booze): check! Painter travelling kit (with last year's VIP pistol case) Brushes Brush soap Several minis (potential entries depending on progress) Several bases A few specific paints (knowing I'm getting the VIP package, I know I'll have some new Pathfinder paints) Optivizor Wet palette (currently drying) with extra parchment paper Duct tape (that diorama needs to survive the return trip) Passport is accounted for. Talin's art books are accounted for. Though I'm leaving tomorrow, today's flight with the same itinerary was on time. Looking good. This will be the first time I'll paint something at ReaperCon outside of classes, and I'll have free time for it.
Green Eyed Monster
Report from Denton: At breakfast after a o-so nights rest. Nerves and time change making it difficult to get uninterupted sleep. For Breakfast: Scrambled Eggs with Salsa, a stack of Applewood Bacon, Sliced Breakfast Potatoes, O.J. and strong Black Tea. The Hotels Hot Breakfast is just as good as I remember from last year. Merge: I'm jealous of all y'all leaving today...

Ditto what she said. Most big airports I've known were around 45-60 minutes. You have to consider time to inspect baggage and handling time to carry and load them on the plane itself (it's not a very quick process). I've only known of smaller airports, or charter flights that can accommodate shorter times.
TripleH
Well, I haven't managed to get any hobbying in over the past couple of day. Hopefully I can get the ambition to get going on my Bombshell Mini today. At least my painters & Ed Sculpt are ready to go and I'm 99% certain that my bags are all ready to go except for the necessary last minute items.

My wife, who travels a lot in various capacities as an officer for our Fraternal Order has made it a policy to allow at least two hours before scheduled boarding time to be at the airport. It makes for a lot of extra time spent waiting but reduces the chances of a luggage foulup or TSA having a real slow day. GEM
Inarah
Does anyone know what special figure they're giving away for staying at the Embassy Suites? I don't remember if it got posted here.
Corporea
ok... so some stuff has made it into the suitcase and I kicked the cat back out of it as he is not coming with me. Clothes are packed at least. I think I'll be packed for classes and miniature-wise before my flight tomorrow. I keep waffling between I'm so ready and I'm not ready at all! Ahhhhhh! Reapercon!!! Also, I successfully killed the wasps in the rosebush without being stung. Go me!

Think of all the extra room you now have for packing more stuff, like the cat who wants to come, too. 2
