I love him!  One day I'll find one in stock.  I dig the orange.

Did you customize the base or is that standard?

It's the standard base except I added this sandy putty stuff in the recesses to give it some texture to look like dirt. The regular base is like smooth rock. So the regular base I painted grey like rocks, painted the putty brown and then added the shield, goblet, book, and sword and the grass.

I still need to get my hands on one of these guys...

You did an amazing job painting yours! :winkthumbs:

Yeah, I had 3 LGS that sell these models and I hadn't been able to get a single one. They had my contact information, said they would call when they came in. For months I would show up with the same answer, "Wizkids can't make enough of these and they are still waiting on some beholders." Not sure how true that was. I believe in this case the clerks are buying them and selling them overpriced online since new stock was appearing, but mysteriously without any beholders hitting the shelves.

It wasn't until I asked a game store that just opened near me about them and within a couple of weeks the owner received and set TWO aside for me. She is awesome.

It is nice to see one so well painted. Hopefully I will do mine the same justice. I may even try the fishing line spit too. :)

Yes, I am kicking myself for not picking up at least one more but I was trying to be nice and leave some for others. The store did get in some more of the camping sets with the wagon after I asked but said that "they" were out of stock on beholders. I don't know if "they" meant their distributor or Wizkids.

I hope you post yours after you get it painted. It is pretty fun to paint.

I decided to do the big treant today to have something that I could do quickly.
Here's today in a few pics. They got a bit out of order.
Green beard, orange mushrooms, black + browning shadows, brown + light brown in highlights.  not sure what more I'll do. May not get to paint until the weekend.

Here is a tabletop elven trio. I am satified they will help fill out the ranks of my eerie forest setting...

I liked these better than the other wizkids elves I painted - mostly because the cloaks seemed less rediculously billowy. Pretty decent depth to details too. They seem very elvy to me. s

Been putting this on the table sans paint a couple of times, so long overdue painting was finally done. It's been a center pices for a hag's tower and now the party took it!

Here is a pack of werewolves from Wizkids. Once again I found myself a bit annoyed with their smaller sculpts - they don't quite fit my personal aesthetic and some of the details are rather shallow for my tabletop skills. I chopped out the hand that one of the sculpts was holding. Quick painting and the photos tell me a familiar story - MORE highlights needed! All in all the players were surprised that those wolves trailing them had a bit more to them....

I had a spare iron golem miniature sitting around and I just got some new metallic paints from Army Painter so decided to test them out. I started with a base of Night shade which is a very nice dark blue and then did a heavy drybrush of gun metal. After that I highlighted with Glitter Green, Tainted Gold and Evil Chrome (their name, not mine) and because most images of iron golems depict them as reddish in color I went over most of it with Gemstone. Even though I didn't use any washes on the golem itself I'm pretty happy with the results.
