Brutus the Boxer. Glitterwolf's Pet

Test results are in.

Everything points to inflammation.

Since he had Cystitis a few weeks ago, we will have to make a scan tomorrow.

There is a inflammation somewhere in the bladder/prostate or in that area.

The Vet has high hopes that this can be cured with antibiotics, he will also get a shot to make him feel better, so hopefully he will start eating again then as well.

Not the best news but better than I feared, so I hope this is indeed what's causing it.

Went to the Vet for an echo of Brutus.

Inflammation in the epididymis and bladder.

Heavy antibiotics.

Another urine sample will be cultivated to see if there are bacteria in there that need another type of antibiotics.

We want to make sure we're treating it with the right stuff.

He did have a fever this time.

Got something for that as well.

he slowly ate a few pieces of kibble just now for the first time since Saturday Afternoon.

Hopefully this means we're getting somewhere.

I desperately want to know how that is pronounced.

Went to the VET today again.

Still a few bloodcells and Inflammationcells.

Waiting for the bacteria cultivation...will know in a few days.

Prolonged the antibiotics again to be sure.

I'm getting a bit desperate about it, starting to fear it might chronic.

He does feel well, so I'll do what is necessary.

This morning I have called the VET.

Here is the thing.

It's a large clinic with several doctors and assistants.

Brutus has seen 5 different doctors in the last two months, which can happen when someone is on vacation or whatever.

I haven't had much of a problem with that until yesterday.

The clinic has merged with another one and there are now even more doctors.

Yesterday I got yet another one and this lady and I, well we don't match.

I was there so she could take an Urine sample from Brutus ( catheterized) so we will know if the bacteria are gone.

She kept insisting on a prostate exam which I told her, two of her colleagues already performed that AND the area in question has been examined with an echo, showing no problem there.

The problem is in the bladder ( inflammation) which spread to a testicle.

The way she kept pushing it made me a bit crancky, because she went on even after I told her this.

I refused it.

Then later she called me, we need to wait for the cultivation of the urine, of course.

But she could already tell that she had seen a few lonely blood cells and inflammation cells in his urine.

When I asked if that meant that I needed more antibiotics to be certain, and to bridge the gap between now and the results, she first told me no, then suddenly changed her mind.

So now I bought more anitibiotics.

To be honest, I have seen many VETS in my life and this was the first time I didn't feel right.

I expressed my feelings to my girl, who suddenly took her phone and called a friend.

She knew something.

As it turns out that friend had a dog which needed a minor surgery, this VET performed that surgery but while she was busy she noticed some kind of innocent thingie that was more asthetic, but decided to cut it away as well.

Not informing or consulting the owner of the dog, but charging her extra for it.

Needless to say the owners where furious, which this VET could not understand.

Another story came up quickly, another friend had to let his dog go, she was the one to do it.

Right before she started she wanted to perform a "last" exame about something, as if the dog was her study object.

Of course this would cost money...

These friends turned her down on it, making the experience of letting their dog go even worse.

This has strengthened my feelings about this person.

So I called the VET office, and I have asked them that when the results are in I want a certain VET or his counterpart which I trust to tell me, and that any treatment will from now on be with one of those two VETS.

I have not said anything bad, I kept it very polite,  but I've made clear that in all these years this particular VET rubs me the wrong way and that I do not want Brutus to be treated by her if it can be avoided.

I may be overreacting but it didn't feel right to me, already I was thinking, what if she calls me with the results and there needs to be more treatment?

Do I believe and trust her?

The answer is no.

I want to hear it from any of the two VETS I do trust, maybe she's a good VET, maybe she just lacks people skills, but I need a VET who has those.

Brutus is my dog and as important as a family member to me.

I can sympathize @Glitterwolf, our previous vet practice was run by a phenomenal vet whose life was dedicated to his patients. Unfortunately, he had to retire due to medical reasons and he sold the practice to a large pet care company and it immediately went downhill from there. Bill's almost doubled, they would neglect to tell you the full price of procedures before surgery and the attitude of the 2 replacement vets was pretty bad. We once waited over an hour to pick up Diva who had just had minor surgery, got a brisk "she's fine" when we asked for info on her procedure and they then charged us £60 more than the price they had quoted because "We didn't know if you'd want painkillers for it". Yeah, they called her an "it". Also, she's my pet, why the heck WOULDN'T I want painkillers for her?!?!?

We were seriously considering moving to another practice, but we loved the reception staff and the vet nurses, so we stayed. Until poor little Bandit got sick. Bandit was old and had diabetes which we'd successfully managed for 3 years and was at the stage where the pet insurance wouldn't cover most things because they would use the excuse that the diabetes was causing everything. When she collapsed one day, we thought it was bad but took her in, hoping that they could do something.

They immediately started work on her, with scans, tests and iv drips. She lasted 3 days before one of the (temporary) vets advised us that it was massive organ failure and we should just let her go because she wasn't going to come through it. As we were leaving(after paying the £3000+ bill) we saw one of the full time vets come back into the reception and heard her laughingly say to her colleague "Yeah, Kuronekos cat was never gonna make it, knew it from the start" Her face went white when she saw us and I had to be pulled away from her by my housemate because this woman had just put my little cat through 3 days of suffering just so they could make more money. We reported her to the regulatory body the next day.

That last part is awful!

I so hope that there was some kind of punishment involved.

Some people should not be allowed to be in such a profession.

We reported her, but never heard anything afterwards. It was just before we moved here and went to our current vets practice. They're fantastic people and I trust them wholeheartedly with our little overlords. One of them even says that Loki is his favorite cat to deal with because he just stands there and let's him do anything to him. Personally, I just think that Loki is smart enough to figure out that the less he fights, the quicker he gets back into the cat carrier :poke:

I seriously think that you should make a formal complaint to the practice manager though. It sounds like that vet is doing a bunch of unnecessary extras just for financial gain. I'm glad that Brutus won't be "cared" by her any longer. Here's hoping that his latest meds clear up his problems.
