Basius stamps are one of the most talked about hobby tools that I've never tried, mainly because they never seem to make it to retail.  This time I'm not letting frugality get in the way of awesome bases!

Yikes these are pricey! $30+ for one? Aren't Happy Seppuku stamps like $5 per, or $15 for a theme pack? These seem bigger, and have more variation to them... but geez.

Yes.  

 

You have accurately summed up why I've never backed in the past.  But every once in a while I think to myself that I would love to get that super detailed forest one, except that I can never find them outside Kickstarter.  So this time, since I have $50 of birthday money in my pocket I'm getting one.  

 

I've also seen better close up pics, and the detail level is much crisper and more realistic than Happy Seppuku, especially when you're comparing forest stamps.  It's one of those "you get what you pay for" situations.  I still love my Happy Seppuku stamps, but more for stone, planks and basic textures.

I don't have their forest stamps, so I couldn't compare that one personally. They seem good for mid-depth textures. The bamboo mat one doesn't turn out too well, as the detail isn't crisp enough (it is fine lines). Tiles and whatnot work well though. 

 

I wish these were smaller, with a lower cost though. $30 for a single style is just too steep for my liking, even if the quality is good.

I backed for a couple during their last kickstarter. They are pricey, but the quality is high and they are very detailed. Each pad is double sided and has a wide variety of different details. I shall be getting some more this time.

No totally new ones as far as I can see. I have those already that I'm interested in (very satisfied with them). I also think (!) they are a bit more expensive now than they were last time, but might be wrong or simply inflation.

Those are WAY bigger than the previous versions they've offered and now they're double sided so that's the very steep price increase. Not so great if you're looking for a lot of variety. I really like the way smaller Basius pads that I got previously, they're great quality and relatively easy to use. I don't think I'll be backing this time around though, I just don't have any need for the huge pads. I'd be in if they were offering the smaller versions again to pick some that I didn't get previously.

I pulled up Basius 2.5 (which I think is when they introduced the double-sided stamps) and one stamp was 25 GBP back in 2015.  The last kickstarter they ran (which I completely missed even hearing about ) had smaller stamps, which I would honestly prefer for most of their themes.  Super, super frustrating that I can't get info on how to get them at retail.  I am still getting the forest one, since it's the one I keep wishing I had.

Nope, they are not way bigger. They are as big and as double sided as the ones I have from the first Basius Kickstarter. I'm not talking about the smaller, one-sided ones they did last.

I have the small forest one and find it extremely difficult to get satisfactory results. It's the only pad I wish I had not bought as I can't get convincing bases out of it (but it's probably just me).

Ah, gotcha. It's hard to tell since they've run their kickstarters under a couple of different company names. I didn't remember there being big pads - I pledged for Basius 3 in 2016. Perhaps that was the first time they released the smaller ones, I'm not sure.

To add to what I said about the forest pad above ... I have four of the big ones:

 

Plaguelands: The side with the wharf and the coffin coming out of the swamp is awesome, I got lots of good results, even the rope on the wood was no problem. I have not used the other side much as I lack inspiration what to do with it.

 

Victoriana: I like the different stone street versions on the one side, but the other side with the mine / railroad tracks, the beach and the sand is even better. Very versatile.

 

Sanctuary: The carpets come out great! I hardly use the other side with the sundial and columns as they take a lot of space on a base.

 

Dungeons: Door/trapdoor works great, the other side with the treasure is a bit difficult to work with for me ... I never get sharp gold coins out of it.

To be honest, I use roller pins and these are way cheaper and give great results.

Including shipping one stamp would set me back 48 euro that is 3 to 4 roller pins!

So nope from me.

I use Fimo Air with really good results, especially if you're using it to create stonework (it cracks a little when it dries).

 

I think I have those rolling pins Glitterwolf mentions, too. But to me, those pins are good for a flat surface. Those pads can do rather big elevations (like the columns, tree trunks or rocks).

I have tried Fimo and it gives fair results. I usually use 2-part greenstuff and I'm very happy with how things turn out.. It does take a little practise and some talc to keep very fine detail like the forest set, but it can be done.
