77469 Brand Oathblood WIP

Recommended Posts

Ok I don't do that many WIPs but I thought I'd try on this one. This is so far a base coat and 6 layers of shading. I like to use glazes so the build up is very gradual and I have to remember that everytime I start a mini lol. I will put down about 10 more layers going down all the way to a deep purple. This is at the pure tanned skin shadow phase. It will be slow going due to work but I will keep up with it. Comments and criticism welcome and before it gets mentioned I removed no mold lines this is more of a proof of concept to see if I can finish a wip post and how my skin painting is coming along. Thanks!

Ok so added the highlights and then glazed it all to bring it together. The closeups are somewhat un flattering but I think it looks ok, need to work on painting flesh still. Next I will touch up the face then move on to the hair. You can see ive removed the weapons I didn't really like them so i'm going to give him one of the axes from the weapons sprues from bones 3. Whelp let me know what ya'll think!

Was up late last night so went ahead and swapped out the weapons the bottom of the axe is slightly off but all in all I think it came out nice and I like the looks of these better more fitting of a barbarian. The dagger fit perfectly in the hole I drilled in his hand. Also may have to repaint the tops and bottoms of his fingers.

So again normally for this quality it would only take a lil while but with work and  life it's taking me longer.  Ok so finished the face and hair the face still seems a little expressionless but it's only my second one and only the first of this size(other was an ogre). I tried green eyes(they're thr colors of my characters eyes)  but I dunno maybe too bright? Also tried some freehand black around the eyes that started out as me trying to line/ separate them. Please leave me feedback faces and skin are one of my big things im practicing on!

So not much more painting done but I greenstuffed some conversions. I didn't like his skin he had draped on his back it had like a reptilian texture to ot and not alot so I made it into a fur texture first time attempting it on a mini. Then I added wood texture to the axe handle it came out ok but a little more bulky than I wanted. Let me know what you think!

I wasn't sure if I should post this in Show off or WIP, but I figured here and if you would please forgive the in progress parts in the subsequent post.

Ron let me paint this lovely sculpt by Gene Van Horne.  Actually, I think I might have begged to paint it and considered stealing it from his office if he refused.   She'll be in the Greek Odyssey Expansion for Bones V.  If by some miracle you have come to this forum and not heard of Bones V, it can be found here.  Aaron Lovejoy was awesome and took some high definition photos of her after last Reapercon.

I really love this sculpt, can't say that enough.  She's got some fantastic detail, lots of good open space to work on blending or freehand, even a scenic base to play with stone effects.  While I loved the original Yephima by Patrick Keith, and still use her in my classes, this one really screams warrior to me.  I need to paint my bones version when I get it as Athena. I'll have to add a shield somewhere, though. Maybe convert the club to a spear.  Decisions decisions.

Anyway, feel free to ask questions.  I'm happy to explain or help with anything!  I'm going to post the WIP pictures I have in another post, so hopefully those will also be useful.  Enjoy!

      Hi folks,

My very first snow base! I haven't attempted Non-Metallic Metal on a shield like this before and I'm happy with how it's turned out :)

      Thanks,
      Mocha

Presenting Volturnos, a character from the Idoneth (or Sea Elf) faction in the Warhammer:- Age of Sigmar game by Games Workshop.

Not my best work, I struggled in quite a few places (particularly with the fish) so a lot of it has ended up being painted rather basically, even by my standards.
But I did get it finished, so I'll count this as a partial victory.

As always, any comments or criticisms are warmly received.

I got this mini in the Mini Painting 101 class at ReaperCon.  This was our first ReaperCon - my wife and I took the class together.  I’d painted about a dozen minis (badly) for D&D before going to RC.

I like this sculpt, and I wanted to work on improving my basic painting skills.  I decided to keep working on her to see how far I can go.

I’ve spent an embarrassingly large amount of time on her already.  I do feel like I’m learning a lot though and getting better at controlling my brush and getting paint consistency right.

I broke out one of the good brushes I had bought and not touched - a da Vinci Maestro.  I still feel unworthy to use it but maybe it will help me get better.

I’ve done a lot of work on the red armor already, but still need to do some more highlighting.  I think I might have overdone the highlights on the green ropes in some places.  I was planning to glaze them down and redo a bit smaller.

Thanks for taking a look.  I would greatly appreciate any feedback or tips on what I can improve on the parts I’ve worked on already.

Here she is so far - she looks a lot better if you squint.
