Getting to Know Each Other, October 2018

Totally failed to meet any new people over the weekend. Saturday was a "stay inside, and don't brave the elements" kind of day. Sunday was "go watch the World Series with old friends".

 

This weekend was like a comfortable old pair of shoes.

Oh, regarding the weekend quest, I met maybe a dozen new people this weekend.  Don't really remember anyone's name, but hopefully I'll see them around again.

Pretty much just stuff that people do for thrills. Anything that could be considered a daredevil-type activity.

1) Put on a blindfold and climb into a clear tank where something is going to be placed or poured on me.  Nope!

2) Own a snake.  Feel free, but I stand with Indiana Jones on this one.  Too many nightmares as a kid.  Happy to take photos though (long lens, no flash)!

3) Know what it feels like to raise my own child.  (Adoption may still be a remote possibility).

4) Turn down an opportunity to do something fun.  Skydiving? Rappeling? White Water Rafting? Spelunking? New Roller Coaster? As long as I can finance it reasonably, Not going to say No!

Hmmm. I'll pretty much try anything once, as long as it doesn't physically/mentally hurt myself or others.

 

So nothing comes to mind immediately, though I'm sure as the day goes on, I'll see other responses and say, "Ooooh yeah, definitely not that!"

N1: Go skinny dipping in Antarctica. Big fat nope there. I don't do cold water. For that matter, any skinny dipping in cold water. Nuh uh. 

 

N2: Become a petroleum geologist. Oil and its host rocks are boooooorrrrring. 

 

N3: Never again drinking chocolate milk that was left in a warm car. Did that as a kid and learned my lesson well. Heck no from then on.

Snakes are snuggle ropes.

Somehow, I knew that you would respond with something similar.  

You can keep your snakes. I don't hate them, they serve a very useful purpose in the ecology. And if people want to own them, fine. But for me, their presence evokes a very primal and irrational fear. How bad? 

So back when my wife were dating, we went hiking in the mountains outside Bailey, CO. While lying in the sun on a blanket in a field, a rather large black bear stumbled across us. He was just as startled by us as we were by him, and he headed off back where he had came from. We gathered up our stuff and started high tailing it back to our car.  About 500-600 yards away from the clearing, I just about stepped on what was probably just a garter snake, no more than a foot long.  I was ready to turn back around and face the bear.

1: Willingly entering dealings with any of the ex girlfriends. 

2: Putting milk or cream in Coffee. 

3: Eat tofu. Those are baby Gelatinous Cubes and not something I want to bear a grudge against me for eating it's young. I also don't want it's young eating their way out of me!

4: Make a deal with the Fae without proper legal representation, even if I have to summon the ghost of F Lee Bailey again. 

(I have quite a few more but most are Beekeepers bait.)

 

I also did not meet anyone new this weekend as the mysterious constant napping seems to have been a harbinger of a mild head cold.

Never is a long time.  That said...

1. Stop singing.  I enjoy singing.  I'm not much good at it but it's still fun to do.
2. Stop reading.  Most lasting stories are written down.  No reading means limiting the stories available to be experienced.  (For example, there is no movie or TV version of The Enchanted Forest Chronicles.)
3. Stop imagining.  No imagining means no storytelling, no dreams.  No imagining makes the world a pretty dull place.
4. Stop having fun.  No fun is...  well, no fun.

Knew I forgot something.  My kid will be fluffy and full of energy.  That's right, my kid will be a malamute, because of a LOT of reasons.

 

Got enough expensive hobbies, if I'm pouring money into something I'd sooner get into LN2 overclocking because then I can joke I'm literally pouring money, because, well, liquid nitrogen is NOT cheap.  Cheaper than a kid though!

I was like you thinking about what might be a good answer. Yours is the closest I've seen so far. I'm up for pretty much anything once as long as I can walk away from it without any trauma.

Zip lining

 

Basically anything that involves falling from or going over great heights. For the skydiving one I go by the words of my step dad "Why jump out of a perfectly good plane if you don't have to?"
