Not really, but I suspect we might actually get some Trick or Treaters this year, the neighbourhood is a lot more decorated up than previous years (one place even has a full outdoor display in the front garden).

Wednesday is my painting night, so that's not going to change.  Our dog is a huge baby and freaks out when the doorbell rings, so the wife and I will be hanging out in our basement with the lights off and Netflix on.  I'll be getting some figs ready for a game on Saturday while she makes sure the big goof gets all the comfort cuddles he needs.  Sorry trick-or-treaters, our house won't have any candy to give away!

Work?

I gotta go to work. I made cookies for the mandatory office party that got planned without anyone else's approval. I also was "encouraged" to donate $10 for the purchase of overpriced underwhelming food that half of everyone isn't going to eat because of "what stored where for how long?!" reasons.

The problem is a simple one. We discovered last night that the lady who decides to plan all these things and then strong-arms us for money is rich as all broccoli and so has no concept of how everyone else on the team actually lives on our government salaries. I live two people to a studio and just paid my entire year's savings to the student loan people, one lady has kids and two jobs and pulls all of the OT just to make ends meet, our clerk can't pay for basic car repairs, another lady spends half her salary on gas because she drives 3 hours a day, we can't all just pull random monies out of our pants for office parties. I bring cookies so I won't have to be strong-armed into paying (worked last time, didn't work this time) and so I know there's food fit to eat.

Not looking forward to it.

Then I age tomorrow. 36th birthday. Not looking forward to that either.

At least Saturday has the half-priced Halloween candy.

Wow, I have a lot of favorites. Just bought a pile of Egyptian figures to paint. Have played games with Egyptian, greek, Roman, medieval Europe, medieval Japan, modern Japan, medieval China, Aztec, Norse, Celtic, voodoo, Russian folk lore... I think that's it, though I am sure I forgot some. All have been fun in their own way. I am running a game now that pulls in all sorts of mythologies. Right now they are hunting a Chinese dragon goddess, being held In Russia. I think next I will send them on a scavenger hunt that walks through various North American indigenous tribes. I love learning about other cultures and their beliefs.

Today is my only day off for a while so I am making the most of it. Already I made pumpkin spice crepes, fresh pumpkin puree that will get made into bread and mushroom chili which is now simmering on the stove. For the rest of the day: cauldron cupcakes, pumpkin cupcakes, butter pecan cupcakes, pumpkin bars, cheddar garlic biscuits, there are 6 pumpkins left to carve, watching trick-or-treaters downtown and possibly games of some sort this evening.

Oct 29  What are 3 or 4 things on your NNNL (Nope, Nope, Never, List)?

(Note: I am shamelessly stealing this from TGP who was offering it up for Glitterwolf next month, since GW says he already has a full list and I'm almost out of questions.  Sorry GW.)

Bungee jumping, BASE jumping, and that catapult thing @TheAuldGrump mentioned, (to which I must add being shot out of a circus cannon). Grump is responsible for making me aware of 2-3 items I have in the culinary section of my list: Durian (the fruit), that Icelandic thing that involved undead shark meat...

In the movies section I have The Star Wars Christmas Special, anything from the ...Shades of Grey... franchise, and some anime thing those lizards over on the Lizardmen Army Forum were talking about. (Edited to add the pic...)

warhammer-chaos-skinned-giant-attack_1_e

Someone painted this ^ Chaos Giant to look like something from an anime titled Attack On Titan and while I (ack, ack, ack...) acknowledge the Painting skill the anime goes on the NNNL.

Wrestle a T-Rex. 43 times is enough.

If you have done it one or more times it doesn’t belong on the list...even if you’ve given it up for Lent or whatever. (I could list Mountain Dew and Pepsi Cola were that the case.)

Never Say Never Again.

That is the title of a Bond film [?] and basically a remake of Thunderball, and not the most ridiculous of them by a long shot. (Not sure if that’s where you were going with that @etherial )

Not sure I have a favorite...

Victoriana, especially when it involves tiny models of ships, or ether flyers, gunboats, steam rams, sky Galleons...and things like that.

Im going to build snowmen and then take the kids out. We have already seeded the spider webs on the front bushes with fake spiders, and attended Mini-spawns fall festival  (seriously) it just happened to involve wearing costumes and collecting candy around the building.

Only one parent and the younger teacher were able to identify my SIMs costume.

okay kidding about the snowmen, the snow from last night melted too fast.

also checked out KDM sale on Halloween figures - nothing I wanted, thankfully. You might think that they would come out with another creepy monster.. nope just girls in slutty costumes.

I'm moving the Xbox One into the Den, closing all the doors to the front of the house and pretending I am not at home!!!  My wife will be watching movies at her sister's place (probably Sleepy Hollow and then one of the Halloween movies).  It might rain tonight, but it might not.  As I did not spend $300 or more on Halloween candy, our door will be closed.  If it were a rain free Halloween and we were manning the front door, I could expect to see upwards of a thousand kids.  When it falls on a Friday night?  Katy bar the door... it's a madhouse.  I've seen our street with four lines of parked cars as far as you can see.  We've never been able to afford to stay all night, so we're not exactly sure how many show up on those nights.  The year we pooled resources with other family members that wanted to help, we ended up with about $350 worth of candy and only made it an hour.  No joke.  Our street is a madhouse.  Fun sometimes, but it's nice to take a break some years too.

I'll look to see if any Halloween themed movies on basic cable are worth watching.  Other than that, what I do every night...

Light a candle in my pumpkin and remember my mum who I lost 14 years ago. Play some D&D. Plan on buying some candy tomorrow.

Nope.

Iowa is weird about Halloween.  Most of Iowa does all their Halloween activities on Oct 30th - something that got started in the early 1940s, and i guess is a tradition around these parts.  They call it Beggar's Night.   So we did all our trick or treating last night.

It's just weird to me.  Every city also posts Official Trick or Treating times, and that's when everyone does it, so it's pointless to even try to do it outside of those times.  I suspect it may even be illegal to try outside of the posted times.

OTOH, the town square here does a big treat or treating event with many of the local businesses, churches, youth organizations and even the Police and Fire departments.  It's really cool to see all the costumes - but the adults in this town really need to step up their costume game, both for themselves and their kids.  The costumes I used to do for my son would blow anything I saw last night away.  My daughter won't let me do those sorts of costumes for her (she likes to be cats and princesses), so I might have to do one for myself for next year.

I generally play in your fairly standard RPG realm, which is to say a western set in a Renaissance culture which has been technologically impaired to medieval levels and magic/monsters thrown in without a bare minimum of thought as to this might alter the society and/or ecology.  I also like JRPGs, which are as grounded in reality as many of the western ones. (That is to say, no culture rooted in reality takes all)

City-wide trick-or-treat was last night, so my plans are to stay inside and do very little.

That title never did quite make sense to me, but I figured it's not the worst one someone's come up with and just went with it.  A few years later I was reading a translator note that said, "uhm I think this really should have been translated as 'The Attack Titan'" which to me aligns better with the story.  Anyway, random item for the day.

There's a candy fest and bouncy house over at the local church, and I think the police dept is having a similar event.  Nothing special happening here.

We went to a costume party over the weekend, that was fun. Awesome to see so many adults dressed up. There were some good ones, too.
