The Heresy Miniatures Dragon - Production Wave II

Recommended Posts

Andy over at Heresy Miniatures has done something I thought he’d never do. Launch a second production run of his infamous dragon.

I know there’s at least a couple of us here who have this dragon from it’s original production run. Haven’t attempted to assemble mine yet. It’s a huge beast of a model and is definitely for experienced hobbyists.

I wish Andy all the best for his kickstarter but I am very concerned he’s going back into production on this. The original run nearly ruined him and his company, it’s a long story, and it took years for him to get everyone their dragons.

The price for the dragon has gone up since then, substantially so. I really hope he has the financial end of this worked out.

Its a great dragon though.

Beautiful, but that's one expensive beast!

I know. Couldn’t afford it now. Works out to about $595.00 Canadian.

Which is a steal compared to Forgeworlds latest dragon at $720.00 Canadian.

Thank the deity of your choice for Reaper and their affordable dragons.

I've got  a few minis from his line plus the original Netherlord. It has sat in a heavy duty clamp/stand for over 14 years now.....Some day I'll get back to it. I've at least got a base picked out for it.....::D:

Wishing Andy luck on his newest project!!

Yikes. It is a heck of a dragon, but the moneys. Oof. If each one takes a day to cast, and production costs are high, I get a high price tag. But... ouch ouch. That'll be a nope for me.

Like the dragon, not fond of the pose.  for me, its just to scrunched up.  I understand the reasons for it, but still it would be so much prettier to have it a little less scrunched up.  he is also too expensive for my wallet at this time.

Best of luck to the project!

Over on the Heresy Facebook page Andy has posted a pic of the Heresy Dragon next to the Heresy Giant on his workbench along with a small human sized mini between them for scale.

No question about it. These are big minis.

And perhaps you'll understand why some of us thought that CMON's two foot tall Cthulhu was a steal at $150?

This gets you onto the comments board where you can sneer and snipe and pour scorn and be really a generally awful human

I really love this!  I'm not keen on picking up a massive dragon at the moment, but this is a reward that I might find myself interested in.

Keeping with my prior undead dragon being a reanimated metallic, I decided to paint up the Bones 4 Zombie Dragon as a copper dragon. I surgically removed its raised claw to fix an issue I had with my Ebonwrath, and sculpted a ruined claw on in its place here. Decided that the rot in the dragon would be where the verdigris of a copper dragon should be manifested, and went to town. Figure is mounted on a 4" diameter wooden base. Camera images had some trouble getting the color right. The closest are probably the first and last ones.
As always, enjoy, and feel free to let me know what I can improve.

      Story
It was the Baron himself who nailed up the poster in Midlam the town square.
WANTED:  LADY WILDWOOD and sundry associated gang members - For Murder, extortion, petty theft and highway robbery.  REWARD - 10 Gold Coins for Lady Wildwood and 1 Gold Coin per gang member.
Speculation and rumour was rife!  Who were these new Bandits that were plaguing Midlam?  Who was the mysterious and dangerous Lady Wildwood? It seemed that the town had been under siege, first from Captain Grief's Gang and then the Hobgoblin Rainding Party, and now this gang of merciless women!
Bounty hunters muttered in dark corners of Inns, looking for information and squads of Town Guard regularly marched out into the surrounding countryside in their pursuit.
But still the robberies and raids continued...
      Waylaid by Bandits Volume Two
A gang of eleven 28mm scale bandits, thugs and ruffians, lead by the Notorious Lady Wildwood, for all of your fantasy miniature games.
      Waylaid by Bandits Volume One
You can also, should you wish, include our first bandit gang with your pledge.  Captain Grief's Gang is a series of of eleven 28mm scale bandits, thugs and ruffians, including the original stretch goal 'George the Grind'.  You could then mix and match your bandits or have them as deadly rivals!

It's only an 11 day  project, so hury up and back.

The biggest model I've ever painted, I worked on it in sections and then assembled it onto the base when finished. I made very minor modifications to Kalarax herself, mostly inserting a lot of brass rods to support joints, and using hot water to bend the tail around onto the base (which is 25 cm square!) There was a lot more work on the base, using rocks, grit and sand to meld the Bones "ruined temple" into a larger scene with common elements from my Vampire army (see sig below)

You may know the story of why the model is so big - apparently a communications error meant that it is twice the size it was ever meant to be? Because of this, I removed odd-sized base details like huge skulls and dinner plate coins and replaced them with "in-scale" objects like dozens and dozens of resin skulls as seen in the close up.

My "huge bony miniature" recipe is:
One can of Army Painter Undead Bone spray paint
A big pot of GW Agrax Earthshade (or similar brown wash)
A pot of Citadel Dry Tyrant Skull
      A large flat drybrush

Let the model to the work! You can also use this to paint large numbers of smaller skeletons, of course.

I found it really hard to light and photograph such a tall model, I'll have to get him off his shelf and try and take better pictures at some point in the future. I chose the bright red tongue to tie in with the reddish muscle and the red roses (which are a theme of my Warhammer Vampire project) as a spot colour.

Painted to match my Warhammer Vampire army, using old Citadel Foundation paints and a lot of Agrax Earthshade wash
