Recommended Posts

Greetings all as the summers now over I'm going to be painting again so I'm going to be painting an Adon Cav force theme that I've decided will be a jungle style Camo. I'll add to this thread as I did with the UTF force that I did earlier in the year http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/78751-cav-utf-painted-force-pic-heavy/&tab=comments#comment-1678472

so heres the 1st test batch that I'll be sorting A Mantis, Kestrel, Bishop & Ogre Cavs with some ground support from Some Chieftains, Commander I & Centipede ground vechiles.

Whooo, another force from you, yay!  I have to live through everyone else's threads since I won't have a large force until next year (but hopefully will be starting a small one soon ish)

Look forward to seeing this :winkthumbs: just don't expect to see a Savage Coyote level of painting mine are always quick & dirty ::o::poke:

Just a quick update I've decided just to do the Kestrel and Chieftains 1st to see how to quickly get the scheme sorted and the quickest way to progress with it. Next is the strips which will be a yellow colour just deciding best way to do them paint straight yellow or will probably paint a light grey 1st then yellow over the top.

base Green colour added

And the progress on the Bloodbowl teams that will slow me down for a week

Norse "Here for the BEER" team

Evening all,

Just waiting for the shading to dry on my BB figures so I cracked on and did some quick painting on the Adon army, I'm looking at a zig-zag / crazy lines on these, tried using sand as the 1st colour before putting the mustard colour on top hopefully keep the mustard colour a bit stronger next I'll pick out the strips with a dark green line

Mustard added

Look a little messy at the moment but the dark lines and details that I'll pick out such as the cockpit should hopefully save them as you can see I paint quick & dirty ::D:

Raided my bits box and came up with some re-roll and turn/scoring markers for my Undead team

I have a large collection of BB figures that haven't been touched for years and painting these has given me the urge to paint all my teams up again might start another thread with those in it

I love the BB figs! Took 2nd place in our league last round with my Female Chaos Dwarf Team, Pandora's Manic Sisters, was great watching a bunch of Lavendar clad loonies whoop bigger teams!

Back on this subject, I have learned over many years of painting minis, when I'm going to use yellow, I prime with white, then do the yellow and everything else. It really makes it easier and the yellow "pops" better.

thanks, yep these are tester pieces i suppose I could reverse the strips by painting yellow 1st with the green bits being added but might be a bit fiddly compared to the current way will tinker to see the best result for minimal effort as I've got 30+ of these to paint in all

Yeah, when you are painting that many figs, every shortcut helps.

Yep i've got 40 cavs and 32 vehicles & 4 aircraft to do for this force...::o: must be mad ::D:

Right got some progress on these done the shading still quite happy with the tanks but still unsure about it on cavs will have to do a couple more test pieces, also cut the flying base down for one of the graves tanks as i think they look a little high atm you can se the two heights in the pictures

javelin, Wyvern, Chancellor, Challenger, Dervish x2 Cavs

Commander II tanks x2

Whisper x2, Ripper x2 (just fancied adding these to my army & painting some up)

Also working & failing on an Malvernis scheme ATM was suppose to be 1/2 white with orange highlights one side orange with white highlights on the other with a black (I think dark Grey might be better) down the middle but not liking the look at the moment perhaps once tidied up & shading is added it might look better otherwise I'll do them white with orange highlights light clone wars clone armour

Have finished this chap, having put some WIP shots up on the WIP sub board.

Really happy with how it turned out, and now want a unit of them!

In the meantime may use him as an upgrade for the friendly ogre you can use as a character in Rangers of Shadow Deep.

We will also be hosting a weekend of virtual content focused on CAV: Strike Operations!

As many of you already know, we had to cancel CAV-CON 2020 this year (and skip the rest of the shows we attend through the year). So rather than sit around and mope through that weekend, we have decided to live stream the whole weekend on Twitch and Discord.
We will also be sharing content on our FB, Twitter, and Instagram accounts!
We plan to spend the weekend playing CAV, talking, Playing CAV, painting, Playing CAV! Starting Sept 4th at 12 noon (CST) and going each day till we can't go any further!
We will have hourly prize giveaways (limit one per guest) featuring t-shirts, paints, minis, and anything else we choose to throw out there!
We hope to have a few guests dropping by to chat while James "Maddog" Meredith will be here to test his mettle vs CAVBoss as we throw a few dice using the new campaign system! Between now and showtime, we will be sharing our progress on getting our units ready to fight!
I'm sure it will be chaos, but it will be a lot of fun, so I hope to see you drop by! CB

After completing my Reaper training kits, I'm ready to start tackling my old 80s lead minis from my youth.  I tried painting a couple when I was twelve years old and failed so miserably I literally thought there was no way I would ever be able to even attempt this hobby and it was just better left to others with more talent.  Thanks Reaper for making the awesome training sets and helping me try again after over 35 years.  So without further ado I begin digging into my vault from the 80s.  Apologies if this forum is for Reaper products only, no insult intended.

So I think this baddie might be a Ral Partha Hill Troll, but not sure. Anybody have some insight?

Brief word of introduction. I know next to nil about CAV. My current interest in it is solely from a painting perspective. With that in mind, please excuse any blunders I make.

So, I'm a painter looking for some cool stuff to paint. I see CAV's mechs. I think "I like mechs, those look cool, I think I'll grab some". Then my eyes flicker upwards towards where it says "10mm scale". I think you can see where this is going.

Long story short, how big are these? It looks like they come on 1" hexes, and $4.99-$6.99 is quite a lot to charge for a small mini (in my opinion, of course).

      Many thanks, all!

Presenting the Ogre Tyrant by Games Workshop, he is very heavily armed.

This one took a while, it's very much one of those minis where the more you work on it, the more details you find.
I am very pleased with how he turned out though.

As always, any comments or criticisms are warmly received.
