10-512, Orc 2

Recommended Posts

Good day everyone, here is the second Orc model from Ral Partha's 10-512 Monsters Boxed Set produced in 1992.

It's a 25mm tall metal "lead" miniature that was sculpted by Jeff Wilhelm and I painted it with acrylics and ink.

I have the Roman crest helmet on this model. I painted the crest in orange, as if it had been made with the red hair of a dwarf.

There is also an eye engraved on the front of the helmet, symbol of Gruumsh. Tribute to Tolkien...

I haven't posted for a bit but I have been painting. I have been painting mostly for D&D but some just because they are fun models. Luckily, the two cross over quite a bit so I get to paint fun models for D&D!

I painted up these little goblins. I have the other 6 waiting to be painted. For these, I decided little greenskins. They are so cute!

Presenting Cypher, a character from Games Workshops Warhammer 40k range.
My version is a mysterious and legendary Space Knight recognisable from the giant sword he carries but never uses, while he normally lives a hermit-like existence on the various, isolated outer worlds, he will occasionally pledge his services to a quest or expedition in exchange for transport off world.

Really surprised I got this one finished, he's been on my desk well past the point where I normally get fed up of looking at things, and he's not a mini I'm that interested in (I basically really like his sword scabbard).
That he turned out okay too is just a bonus.

As always, any comments or criticisms are warmly received.

I wasn't planning on ever doing any more Work In Progress threads (The number of threads I've abandoned outnumber my finished threads by a pretty ridiculous amount at this point), but I'm trying to get back into the habit of painting every day and my brain is being a real jerk about it (he'd be a lot happier if I gave up on this whole painting nonsense and just stared mindlessly at a screen all day).
So the idea is if I post an update a day, regardless of how much progress I've made, I'll shame myself into making sure I've done enough for a worthwhile update or something.

      Day 1 (Which was yesterday):-

The King and his Seahorse have been undercoated, washed and I've started on the base, I got part way through applying the pumice paste before I realised I couldn't get to the middle without getting it all over the Seahorses tail/tentacles/tail-acles?
Today I want to try and finish the base, and maybe start on the Seahorse.

      Hello all,

just finished this one up, a Ral Partha Children of the Night Megalosaurus. I told myself I was going to stay away from greens and grey, which is of course what this one ended up being.  I threw some pink highlights into his mouth and throat, which started making me think a bit about the Joker.

This guys is a dinosaur so he's a pretty hefty piece of metal.  I should probably photograph some day a normal sized person to give a comparison. He's on an oval base, no idea how big it's supposed to be.

      Anyway, hope you like!

      Hi guys and gals,

two more figures from classic Rat Partha, these two are currently called "Beggars" but used to be part of a Children of the Night set that came with a seated old holy voodoo gentleman I painted recently.  Here's the original set:

and here are the two beggars:

and here is the front of the female beggar, linked for an exposed female mammal part dangling about:

      Female Beggar, beware mammal parts!!

I didn't originally mean to give the male beggar a black eye, but his eye was actually just a small little slit, and I was going to leave it as a dark link. So I did the line, then did the black eye, but after that, because I just couldn't resist, I tried to put white over the slit, and even though the white slit kind of took over and made it big enough for an eyeball to go there too, I think it came out okay.

The two figures were pretty simple and they are rather small, being some nice old Dennis Mize 25mm.  If I remember to, I'll grab the quarter comparison shot one of these days.

and just in case you want to see the whole set, I'm sticking the little old drummer voodoo priest here as well:

      to show the complete set!

So hope you enjoy, thanks for having a look!
