Last Question, Dec. 31st, New Year’s Eve, Double Bonus Round:

What is the best thing that happened to you this year?

Do you have a plan (party, fireworks?) for New Year’s Eve?

Canada happened! I finished my masters degree, was accepted to my top school for a PhD program, and moved north. Sir Cyr came with me. This is pretty great.

Plan? Going to the BC-made wine shop down the street, snagging some local bubbly, and will snuggle Sir Cyr. We might watch more Disenchantment. Dunno. Or I might paint (preferably before bubbly).

I'm having a hard time coming up with a "best" thing for this year, it was consistently good with tons of simple, enjoyable moments. Spent a lot of time with my wife and dog, played a bunch of great D&D, went camping with my siblings, bought a new car, welcomed my cousin's new baby into the world, and took several trips with friends.  I consider myself very lucky and will be blessed if I have many years like 2018 in the future.

I'll be ringing in the new year with my wife and dog.  I plan on painting and watching Arrested Development. My wife had never seen it, but we have been binging it and are just finishing up the original seasons.

Overall a good year, but lots of ups and downs to it.

We suffered some personal loss over the summer. My job continues to be miserable, but at least I get paid more for it now.

Artistically, it's been a very good year. I directed a production of Romeo and Juliet that I've been incubating for years, and several people I respect said it was the best R&J they'd seen. I got to watch one of Nissiana's mentors tell one of his colleagues how invaluable she has been in developing his latest piece.

I'm looking forward to 2019.

Tonight, we host our sixth annual (second in OUR house) NYE Games Night! About twenty people in the house, three board game tables and a Nintendo Switch room, various bits of nosh, and wine, beer and bubbly!

(Only four hours before people start arriving, so I need to get off the forums and finish cleaning!)

Best thing was had fun and reconnected with some High School friends at my 50th reunion.  Overall it was a good year.

Can't think of anything that stood out as "best", though there were lots of small, good moments.

Members of our game group (the ones not working tonight) are gathering for snacks and movies.  It will be low key, and probably not run long because of winter weather due in around midnight.  Neighbors will provide fireworks and ammo.

Hard to think of a "best" moment for 2018. There were a lot of downs this year, and not many ups.

My partying will consist of watching movies and painting until midnight, and then drinking a bottle of bubbly and probably going to bed.

Been thinking about this for awhile. No party this year because we have a year old daughter and the russian speaking party we normally go to is ridiculously expensive. We'll just spend another night at home but with tons of fancy food and a bit of champagne.

2018 hasn't been the best year for me. Lots of stress dealing with family and business problems. Trying to think of what was best. Worst has been on my mind more and there are several things fighting for top spot there. I think I'm done with the worst of it and if I can make it through a year like this one without going bankrupt the future's looking decent. I would have to say my kids were the best part. I've got good kids and even though at times they can annoy me it could be a lot worse. The boys are old enough they are starting to help out with serious things and they played quite a few games with me. Daughter is a sweety but at that age she needs a lot of care.

2018 was filled with allot of great moments but I don't think I can really single one out as a best. I went to ReaperCon at the new facility & it was a great time. Considering I won't be there till at least 2020 it was a nice way to end the streak of 14 straight RCONs. I acquired some new hobby tools, including a spray paint booth & photo box. Those 2 tools have been on a want-list for quite some time.

A long time wish of a FLGS finally happened this year & I'm involved with it quite well. According to the owner, 2019 should be great year of growth for gaming at the store (MTG, rpgs, board games, all include), something he wanted me a part of. Hoping 2019 will see Stafinder Society take off locally, as I really wanna GM it!!

Hoping, 2019 will be just as good if not better. I won't have RCon to look forward to but I will have a week's worth trip back over in Eugene & the OR coast with my wife again, a week later. I've got a concert to look forward to in April over in Boise (Old Dominion). Seen em before but my wife & I enjoyed em so a 2nd showing was needed. Also looking forward to a music festival over in Pendelton, OR in July. Hote is reserved for the weekend, but the music acts haven't been announced so I'm not sure if this one is a go or not. In Feb I get to go down to Las Vegas for the first time & experience the Las Vegas Open weekend. I'm gonna run a couple of 5e games in their open table area. Hopefully I can get players.

NYE for me will be punching on at work. Normally I'd be off tonight, but some reason they decided to bump up the load night by 1 day. I guess they think NYE/D is something special. I will be at the game store before heading off to work at least playing D&D AL with my players.

Best memory was my 20 year anniversary.  Not so much for the celebration, but that I have been married to this wonderful woman for 20 years, and am still looking forward to the next 20.

AS far as tonight, it wasn't supposed to be anything.  Then Middle Daughter wanted to have 3 friends over, then Youngest Daughter wanted two, so now I've just got back from the grocery store and am making meetballs and pizza and am going to break in my new fryer with some chicken wings.  Might still hobby tonight which was my original plan.

No real plans for tonight, we are an old, boring couple.

Nah, it's "we prefer to spend time together", right? ~_^  ...Says the one that's spending the night with just their spouse.  We're probably murdering digital aliens or something (aka Starcraft II co-op) for our highlight!

Oh right, thanks for the reminder.  It was my 10th this year, so that's a highlight too!

Had a pretty good year overall:

Started a new job in February and spent a lot of time painting minis for friends.

This year is starting off on a pretty low key note. Staying at home with my parents, playing games and having a few drinks.

Happy New Year to everyone, and all the best in 2019!!

Reapercon snags second place. After some thought, it has to be that my brother and I launched an app on the Apple App Store.  ( We invented a game when we were kids, hand created board and everything, adjusted its rules over the years, and it is finally published as an App so that anyone can play. PM me for details, or a screenshot, if you are curious.)

It was: visit kitchen, open one of the well-aged beers in the fridge (pretty sure all of them are veterans of last NYE) visit living room, turn on Telly, watch the Times Square ball drop event, drink the beer, toast 2019.

But NYCity and ABC ruined it.

Do you know what happens when a hundred screaming Jumbotrons are strapped to every building within a block of the precious ball with its 283 Waterford crystal Triangles? Answer: they kick off a lot of light

Do you know what happens when fifty fireworks launchers mounted all over the building under the precious ball, with its 278 Waterford crystal Triangles, start firing in sequence as it drops? Answer: that creates a lot of smoke.

Do you know what happens when the ball, with its 292 Waterford crystal Triangles,  descends into the pall of smoke that is being lit from every possible angle?? Answer:   ::o: it disappears into a glowing smokescreen like a puny Destroyer Escort running from a Japanese SuperDreadnought!!!  :blues:

And the whole point, of the entire broadcast, is lost, rendered moot... ....no one sees the ball touchdown

Glad I didn’t bother with the beer.

A plan: Party at a dance studio, so it'll be hanging out with dance friends we've seen too little of lately, trying to remember my ballroom moves.

So, good morning world, and Happy New Year to everyone.  A couple of months without dancing for real and a month without lessons and regular practice really take a toll.    Guess fixing that gets added into my resolutions...

Well, that's sorta up to them. It'd be cool, but I'm not about to dictate that someone has to do it.

I unboxed this Dino this weekend. Here she is stomping on a tabletop. The model is flawless, the detail is quite nice.

I did a little bit of research about ceratopsians. As near as I could find out this one has a frill somewhat like a Styracosaurus but the face (head?) is more like a Pentaceratops. Which is no cause for complaint as far as I’m concerned. Lots of sharp horns is a good thing.

I still need the correct five digit number and the right name for this model. If anyone has those or a suggestion for a third tag I can edit the title.

Welcome to the last 2019 instalment of Getting to Know You, December 2019 Edition.

The rules as they currently stand ( ...should you chose to accept them... )

      1. Every day, or so (unless I am out or ill or something) I will post a question.
1.5. Should I be unable to post a question for the day a crack team of deputy quisitors, former quisitors, are likely chomping at the bit to step in and post one...
      2. In theory there is a 24 hour span to answer that question before the next question is posted.
2.5. (Rule 2 is the most frequently ignored rule.)
      3. Questions will typically be posted between  06:00 hours and 09:00 hours CET. (Central European Time UYC +1)***
3.5 (...that is 23:00 to 02:00 hours RST Reaper Standard Time UTC -6)***
      4. Everyone is encouraged to suggest future questions to be posted via PM to me or one of the other quisitioners.
(But my PM box is stuffed full gimme 2-3 days to clear it out...)
      5. You do not have to answer every question to play.
      6. If a question is TMI or N/A simply wait for the next question.. ..or post that you decline to respond (clues regarding why can be fun...unless TMI).
      7. Weekend questions will often take the form of two day quests, running Saturday to Sunday.

***CLEARLY I WILL ON OCCASION BEND RULES 3. And 3.5.
