The clicky menace

Ok, I have seen that clicky mechs today. They look good. Didnt tried the rules yet, but... They are painted, and are articulated. The design is not cheap. They got a classic name in the boxes...

What do you think...??? CAV minis are really cool, but i'm afraid that the other company will overload the market with the clicky mechs.

They are already prototyping a plastic version of Master Maze!!!

Please, dont throw me stones yet :) . I think Reaper deserves a sincere comment from their own customers.

By the way, those clickers have a pretty decent fast paint job, but still got that warped-plastic-on-the-thinner-pieces problem.... but not that much of that either.

Look at it this way, Drakkin. The twisty bits are a gimmick. They get people interested in picking up the mini. Yes, I have seen the paint jobs they do, and they're not bad. I'm doubting they really worry about Torso Twisting and such like that. Most likely they're going to keep things simple and fast-pased. If you look at it from a 'torso twisting isn't going to effect gameplay' angle, then a well painted CAV (or b-tech) mini will always look better than the slap-dash job done on any of these Mage Knight variants.

The overload that you speak of will subside when the novelty of the game wears down.

Mage Knight was much the same way when it first released...  Store just couldn't keep it in stock.  In fact, one retailer went so far as to tell me that MK was the next Pokemon.  It fell far short of that prediction... But, it still rocked.

CAV will still continue...  Provided that fans, like you and me, continue to play the game in Retailer and Store venues and promote the game to new players as much as possible.

Like any game, it's survivability in the marketplace is not determined by the store owner, or by the manufacturer, or by the gaming convention...  A game's longevity and success is entirely dependent on players like you.

You determine a game's destiny.  Because, if you don't buy the product, then the retailer stops stocking the product, then the manufacturer stops producing the product...  The Game Dies.

Black Lightning NEEDS your help!

So, here's my challenge to each and every one of you CAV Fans out there.  This month, the entire month of September.  Grab your CAVs, get out to your local game stores and PLAY!

Do this for two weekends this month.  Just two Saturdays...  Out of the entire month.

Just play.  Make 'em big, juicy high points battles...  If you bring 20 CAVs and you friends bring 20 CAVs... You've got a nice looking battle.

Just show up, ask for an open table and go to work.

Heck, it doesn't even have to be a big table.  If your store doesn't have a lot of room, take a section a piece and go from there.

Just BRING IT!

Cool?

What you mean like the two insane battles we fought this last Weekend?

That is a good point.

Now here are others... MW DA is just as fast as its competitors, but here are some diferences to emphasize.

1.- table size, MW DA recomends 300 points (clocking in at three to seven models), on a three foot by three foot table, and fairly clear when it comes to terrain.

2.- MW DA IS NOT a range game, the longest range in this game is 14 inches.

3.- The torso twisting is a gimmick since it does not matter in game play.

4.- It is an in your face, slug fest, physical combat is extremely effective and emphasized mechanically.

5.- I don't care what they say, but Mr Suitcase could field a better army any time than the 13 year old. Yesterday when I unloaded a good percentage of it, (making my money back) I could see it. Kid wants one unique but he cannot afford it, while the adults were grabbing them right and left. CAV juicy, good, and most importantly I can pick what I want from the rack.

6.- Quality, yes folks they are painted to Rank and File standard (which is better than most Mechs I have seen in my life). That said, Q\A has something to be desired and they are indeed cheap toys.

Right now they are riding a wave of excitement... and like most plastic crack it will loose its apeal soon until the next expansion. Many of the folks playing it right now will bore from it and then drop it. Things that make it hard to continue playing are GM directed campaigns. (Those are only the official ones from their designated BattleMasters, which are NOT present in all states) I am also possitive that players will look for a new alternative soon enough and here is CAV.

Now here is the challenge to all of you... eye candy. You need to paint your CAVs at the very least to RaF standard if not above. If you get to the store in time, use the best terrain you can... and most importantly HAVE FUN! The reason why people play games is to have fun. If I see a bunch of people huddle over the latest plastic crack having fun, and hear these two other folks having a healthy rules argument... what do you think I am going to pick?

Also to a point some tech players are ENFORCING faction play, which is scaring the 13 year olds.

:(

That is bad for the hobby. Though potencially it could be good for us. Now as an aside, I was reminded of Magic when it first came out. I was also reminded why I personally do not like that marketing scheme, since these games are adictive... only one more booster and I will have that unit, really.

At the very least all them construction bots will make propper psyros after I get the Thermagaunt Legs...

Well you could always rig the flamers on your Puma's to actually WORK!  See how his little plastic toys like that! }:-)

Of course the nice thing to do (and the one that won't also burn down your hobby store) is to point out to people that you can actually play a game using all of your models at once.  Lets see Mr. FarmTech try that. :-D

Froch, not really, I have run games with LOTS of models... last one clocked at fifty on side, and forty four on the other. This is a total of ninety four units on the table top! Now last time I checked that is a batallion and then some, reinforced batallion per side I would say...

We were done in two and a half hours, and the players had oh, one demo game per player experience under their belt.

Granted to speed things up I did use a house rule, for deviation we used GW deviation dice, mostly it was faster.. but not by much.

Now Mister Suitcase can field all his toys... on a three by three feet there is no place where to move. Also in his defense the game could be done just as fast.

But you can compete, having fun, not arguing and just plain blowing stuff up will be enough to convince players that maybe CAV is just as much fun! (Maybe even more, though I highly recomend against getting in an argument with Mister FarmTech... beat him in the fun and sportmanship department!

Remember the key word is "eye candy".  But eye candy is not always what gamers are after.  Once someone hears, "oh, spend $1,000 and you can have an army like mine..."

From what I've seen of CAV you can field a good 2000 point force for about $80.  Not many miniatures games can say that.

Of course once you get that 1/60th scale Dictator painted up... and some 28mm CAV personalities... that's all the eye candy you'll need!

It is and now that it is out, we shall all go recruit more gamers... woohooo!

Here i come Farmtech!!!!

Yes in all fairness it is a good game, but still CAV has a far better distribution (off the rack) and rules (range game). Ok the other one is ok for the beers and pretzels game....

Oy and what I am doing to those Blackhawks is just cruel

Can we all say I need a saw?
