Getting to know you: January 2019

Recommended Posts

Well this is surprising. The text book definition [of hobby] is very open ended and expansive.

So I have learned things.

Side effect: I have more hobbies than I ever thought.

For years I have thought a hobby is an activity that results in Something Being Created.  Like a stamp collection, or paintings, coin collection, butterfly collection, or a pile of figures...obviously. Model making, ships in bottles, pottery, ceramics, colored sand jars, beads and jewelry...anything where materials get assembled into a new thing.

I dunno why I narrowed the term in my head so much.

What other hobbies do you have?

Apart from miniature painting and fantasy RPGs:

I used to play bass guitar quite frequently, but haven't really scheduled the time to practice as often as I used to. I also really enjoy researching new topics and learning everything about it.

When I have funds available (kind of like miniatures), I also get a kick out of tasting, nosing, and taking notes on different scotch whiskies (a subset of my obsession with research).

What is your favorite mini?

In general. Dragons, Dwarves, and Giants.

If you’re asking for a specific mini... I’ve been collecting for almost 40 years. No way I can select any single one.

Sorry, that's much too specific, I could not even narrow it down to my favourite manufacturer.

What is your favorite mini?

I'm going to have to go with...

From my wishlist...  Legendarion Kitsune Monk

From what I have...  Oooh, tough call.  *pauses* Huh, that's an odd place for a piano... *dashes off when you look*

... Okay, ignoring movies quotes...

- Favourite mechanical design: Tau XV-88 resculpt (looks so much better as a handheld cannon of doom!), however that 1:56 scale Dictator B is rapidly growing on me.  (not that I have either yet but still)

- Favourite fantasy mini: feels like heresy saying a second Games Workshop sculpt on here, but I'll go with the Skaven Doomwheel. (not that I have one atm...)

- Favourite large scale mini: so far? Has to be the dragon from DDS2!

- Favourite mid-scale mini: Ebonwrath or Kyphyrixs

- Favourite smaller scale mini: Pathfinder Red Dragon, with the Temple Dragon a close second

- Favourite human sized mini: probably, quite likely... Mogo, Male Kitsune.  Or Reaver of Kargir....

The new Blackbones Owlbear. This will change.  MFM (My Favorite Mini) is a variable subject to change without notice.

What is your favorite mini?

The one I buy next.

I have a little collection of minis that could fill a small shop...

It's difficult to pick a specific mini.

My favorite types are:

  • All things Reptilian
  • Dinosaurs
  • Megafauna
  • Undead ( Gothic, Egyptian, Classic etc)
  • Barbarians
  • Animals
  • Chaos ( Demons, Beastmen, Warriors etc)
  • Pirates
  • Feudal Japanese / Chinese style minis including Myhtological creatures
  • Meso American style minis including Mythological creatures.
  • Busts ( Fantasy and Historical)
  • Large Scale ( mostly Historical)
  • Superheroes minis
  • Pulp Style minis
  • Steampunk Contraptions

I could go on all day...

Like almost everyone else, I can't narrow it down to a single mini.

In general, I like steampunk minis and anything that's heavy on details.
