Question for January 29, 2019

Gloves or mittens?

I prefer bare hands, but if it is absolutely necessary : black leather gloves.

When I was living in Alberta it was mittens cause Brrr... cold!

Now that I’ve been out on the coast most my life it’s gloves, leather.

And contrary to W.O.O.F. propaganda I did not make the switch because I lost my mittens.

Gloves unless running in below-zero (F) weather - then I'll wear 2 layers of light gloves under a pair of snowmobile mitten shells.. And since that's still 2 on 1, gloves still win there, right?

Gloves until it gets down to around 20 degrees (F), then its mittens over gloves. A friend made me some oversized mittens out of old wool sweaters last year and they are just great when it gets super cold. Here's a pair she made for my wife.

Gloves or mittens?

Assuming we're talking about winter wares, typically gloves. I want everyone of my fingers to have its own winter jacket. And it's much easier to find work gloves than work mittens.

Mittens are kept for the most extreme colds (or heat in the case of oven mitts) or in situations where fine motor coordination is not a priority. Playing outside when I was young, everyone wore mittens. They make better snowballs, and the requirements to holding a snow shovel aren't very high.

And then you hit baseball. Baseball glove, catcher's mitt... The only gloves and mittens that don't come in pairs!

Gloves.

For cold days, I wear glove liners under my gloves.  The last set of glove liners I picked up are touchscreen-compatible.  I have also been known to wear these in the office when it gets really cold.  (They're thin enough that I can still type while wearing them.)

Gloves. It's way to difficult to ride a motorcycle with mittens.
