What dragon would you choose?

Recommended Posts

So I plan on making an order soon and besides the cool duck warrior that just came out, I was thinking of getting a dragon. What bones dragon (under 30 bucks) would you choose as a first BIG dragon?

my two favorites:

77279: Narthrax ($29.99) -dynamic vicious, everything you want in a dragon.

77565: Kyphrixis, The Copper Dragon ($19.99)  more reserved. doesn't have to be good, but may talk before attacking.

Narthrax is still my favorite dragon of all favorite dragons. Julie Guthrie really set the bar on that one.

77542: Marthrangul, Great Dragon ($29.99) I love his sneaking up pose and he's really big

77323: Blightfang ($29.99) got cool kinda leafy scales

77177: Wyrmgear, Clockwork Dragon ($25.99) l'm working on this guy right now and having a lot of fun

77625: Invisible Kyphrixis ($19.99) invisible can do all kinds of cool effects or just paint it regular

77545: Diabolus the Devil Dragon ($29.99)

I also have a soft spot for this guy he's been sitting on the shelf waving at me dry fit since he came in the last Kickstarter. I really need to paint him up.

While I do like love Wyrmgear and Ebonwrath...  I keep wanting to steal hubby's Narthrax the most, so.... Narthrax.

Good suggestions! what are everyone's feelings on 77555: Viridius, Great Dragon ($29.99)?

That's an awesome Dragon!

Have you seen @Metalchaoshis metal version?

He made different horns and antlers!

Viridius is also a big guy with a lot of personality, he's got a bit different scale style than most of the others.

Cygnwulf's WIP has a lot of nice close ups of the unpainted bones version of the sculpt to check out.

I definitely want to get Narthrax , Kyphrixis(both regular and invisible), and Blightfang when all this craziness around me settles down and things start moving but for now I went with Viridius. Cannot wait to get it going and throw on a nice airbrush paint job on it.

Good choice!

The Bones Dragons are reasonably priced, you will get the others one day.

I have to say Narthrax is a great first dragon (and not because he was my first :D ), but if you're like the rest of us, you will quickly end up with ALLTHEDRAGONS!!!!

My ears are tingling... I really should finish that dragon.....

You and me both.  I still only have colours blocked in more or less on my Ebonwrath...

Narthrax definitely is a nice looking dragon, that's for sure!

Welcome to our first campaign, Monster Families!
La Louve 3D offers you this project, a collection of adorable, funny and dreadful miniatures to liven your role playing games. We have highlighted some little represented creatures and their babies! All our models are 3D printable without other supports needed with a FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) printer or SLA (Stereolithography) printer.

Keeping with my prior undead dragon being a reanimated metallic, I decided to paint up the Bones 4 Zombie Dragon as a copper dragon. I surgically removed its raised claw to fix an issue I had with my Ebonwrath, and sculpted a ruined claw on in its place here. Decided that the rot in the dragon would be where the verdigris of a copper dragon should be manifested, and went to town. Figure is mounted on a 4" diameter wooden base. Camera images had some trouble getting the color right. The closest are probably the first and last ones.
As always, enjoy, and feel free to let me know what I can improve.

The biggest model I've ever painted, I worked on it in sections and then assembled it onto the base when finished. I made very minor modifications to Kalarax herself, mostly inserting a lot of brass rods to support joints, and using hot water to bend the tail around onto the base (which is 25 cm square!) There was a lot more work on the base, using rocks, grit and sand to meld the Bones "ruined temple" into a larger scene with common elements from my Vampire army (see sig below)

You may know the story of why the model is so big - apparently a communications error meant that it is twice the size it was ever meant to be? Because of this, I removed odd-sized base details like huge skulls and dinner plate coins and replaced them with "in-scale" objects like dozens and dozens of resin skulls as seen in the close up.

My "huge bony miniature" recipe is:
One can of Army Painter Undead Bone spray paint
A big pot of GW Agrax Earthshade (or similar brown wash)
A pot of Citadel Dry Tyrant Skull
      A large flat drybrush

Let the model to the work! You can also use this to paint large numbers of smaller skeletons, of course.

I found it really hard to light and photograph such a tall model, I'll have to get him off his shelf and try and take better pictures at some point in the future. I chose the bright red tongue to tie in with the reddish muscle and the red roses (which are a theme of my Warhammer Vampire project) as a spot colour.

Painted to match my Warhammer Vampire army, using old Citadel Foundation paints and a lot of Agrax Earthshade wash
