'In the far west of the Borderlands, there is a land that spends a quarter of every year in darkness, the only light coming from the great gatherings of Sunstalkers that cover the plains.

The locals tell a tale, about how the Sunstalkers, being the children of Night, aid her in her endless battle against Day by trying to eat the Sun. Whenever the Sun reaches the horizon the Sunstalkers gather, only to be held at bay by a mysterious person known as The Dawn Maiden.

However, the constant battling eventually tries her out and inevitably she must leave the Sun unguarded, at which point it is devoured.

In the end, her strength replenished, The Dawn Maiden returns and hunts down every Sunstalker, the indigestible fragments of Sun causing them to glow in the darkness. She cuts open their bloated bellies, reassembles the Sun piece by piece and releases it back into the sky to restart the cycle.'

Presenting the Sunstalker, a monster from the game Kingdom Death: Monster.

I don't really have the patience (or big enough brushes) for larger minis like this, so kept it super simple with lots of drybrushing. Despite that, I think it looks pretty good, so I'm happy.

As always, any comments or criticisms are warmly received.

I can see why you were intimidated: big & cluttered are a rough combination. Despite that the Big Creepy Fellow is a BEAUTIFULLY painted & based creation. VERY WELL DONE!

Nicely done!  As for stories, I always thought the KDM story of the sunstalker was actually one of the nicer ones.

The colors you used are nice and vivid and I like how it all came together!

Well painted.

I don't like the sculpt but that's personal, you gave it wonderful colours.

It took a while for the image to download and I was thinking "That's grotesque and more than a little creepy, but I don't see how it's not safe for ww...WHOAH !" Nice job - some good realistic skin tones for a lot of skin.

Well you utilized dry brushing very effectively. I wouldn't have realized you had used it if you wouldn't have told us.

I haven't read the Sunstalkers book yet, I wait until I face something in-game (which is why most of my Kingdom Death stuff is unread  ).

I didn't like the sculpt at first either, but it grew on me as I painted it.

The story I have read is the little caption that Adam did for the teaser on the expansion.  I am sure that he will weird it out somehow but the story is one where a sad little guy is in the dark and wants to play with his shadow.  he collects lanterns and plays till he's tired and falls asleep.  when he wakes the lanterns are gone but there is a little light creature in its place and they play together forever.

Given Mr. Poot's twisted little brain, there is no way that this could go wrong...

I am going to pretend I didn't see that.  this is a family forum ::P:

I find the offending bit to be rather...extraneous.  its not part of he story, that I know of, and seems to just be there for shock value in an otherwise  very interesting sculpt.  I will probably perform some surgery to create and additional tentacle.  I like what you did with the hand hair.

I didn't realise there were fluff teasers for the expansions, I'll have to give them a read, see if they give me any ideas for my fan-fiction Kingdom Death world.

Yeah, it is pretty pointless and rather silly (as are the "naughty bits" on most KD minis IMO), even the feet tentacles don't make much sense.

Although I think a Sunstalker who was all feet tentacles would look pretty cool.

As much as I like KDM there are some expansions I just refuse to get, this is one of them.  It is supposed to be lots of fun to play against, and the gear you can get for killing it is top notch, but still no.  You can fix the front tentacle but there is nothing you can do about the back view (link 3)

You did a nice job painting it, I would not have guessed mostly drybrushed.

I would add more shading to the hand piles, towards the bottom, a few washes would add more depth.

it's on the kingdom death website when you click on the sunstalker expansion.  it gives a little 1 paragraph teaser on what the story is while giving away nothing of the actual game mechanics.

?

Someone more worldly is going to have to explain that one to me, I can't see anything unusual on it's back.

The hand flippers did get a good coating of Flesh Wash, but I think most of it ran off (or I got too heavy handed with the drybrushing).

Agreed,  I didn't see anything scary or NSFW on the back.

washes have a real tendency to dry much lighter than they look wet.  I am not sure why.  Citadels washes are notorious for this.  I find I need to do about 3 or 4 washes to make the dry tone look like it does when its wet.  and when that last coat goes on it looks very over done.

hand flippers:  l like that.  I have a certain bones mage that resembles that remark ::D:

Presenting the Leather Queen, a Pin-up version of the Leather Armoured Survivors from Kingdom Death, hopefully she's wearing just enough to not need a nudity link.

I'm pretty out of practice painting Pin-ups so she's a little rough around the edges, and I never could figure out a way to make her hair look like hair, but at least it's another one finally finished.

"During the opening stages of the Great War, it was quickly discovered that the human mind was too fragile for soldiers to spend any time in areas that had been heavily corrupted by Void Space.
One of the solutions to this problem was to lift the restrictions on deploying Automaton Troopers to the front-lines. Drawing power from naturally occurring energy fields and equipped with self repair and competent AI systems, they could theoretically operate indefinitely without contact with their human creators.
However, despite being deployed in large numbers, in the end they did little to halt the advance of the Void.

Centuries later, many can still be found and most pose a threat to the humans they once served.
This particular model, now known as a Flower Knight due to the flora it spontaneously generates around itself, is not openly hostile to anyone it comes across but will not tolerate any damage to the gardens they both create and guard."

This is another one from the Cupboard of Unfinished ThingsTM that's been waiting for me to bring it back to the table for a final painting session or two. It's not a patch on the many, many other Flower Knights out there on the Inter-webs, but I'm really pleased with it.

Presenting The Fighter (Echoes of Death version), she's a Kingdom Death: Monster re-imagining of their existing The Fighter mini, who, in turn, was Kingdom Deaths take on a generic fighter class character.

Quite pleased with this one. She took a while as I kept finding bits I'd missed hiding under her hair, and I rushed her shield in the end (it needs at least one more highlight, but my hands have been really shaky recently and I didn't want to mess it up) so I may put a bit more work in at a later date.

I really love it anytime I get to paint those beautiful miniatures from Kingdom Death: Monster.
The Kingsman was no exception. While is pose is stoic rather than dynamic, the details on the armor just sang out.
My client wanted to make sure that he wasn’t too dark (with Kingdom Death miniatures, it is pretty easy to just use a lot of dark colors) so I made sure the accenting reds were bright enough to compensate, while still getting darker towards his feet.

Started a new campaign and wanted to add in a few of the expansion monsters, namely the gorm, the flower knight and possibly the dungbeetle knight.  Well see how it goes but the first up was the gorm.  Just getting started on it but I wanted thoughts on its direction and if someone has thoughts on increasing the creepy factor.  I have noticed that the expansion monsters are a tad further down the rabbit hole than the main game.

The classic gorm is all black but I thought it lacked a certain punch so I changes the head using a baby picture I found and I'm working on blending it back to a greenish blue body.  Let me know if anyone has thoughts on what might increase its shock value.

I'll add more pictures if people are interested as I go
