Randomness XV: 'tis a silly place.

Recommended Posts

Well, tonight just became a good night. Driving down the road my coworker spotted $100 in 20s lying in the street. So we split it 3 ways between us and I got a free $30. Old Hawkeye got the extra $10 because he was who saw it. That's the most cash we've found on the ground in a good while.

Well, cake and coffee are always guaranteed to have me appear anywhere. Hello, all!

Welcome!

I feel like I've gotten things done today but the state of things says otherwise.

My usual round of 'no miniatures finished' jumped to 'eight miniatures finished' .I don't quite know what to do with that.

.. so, now all I have to do is finish the rest of the bonesylvanians I'm working on, and figure out what I did with Tish...

So that's where I dropped it.  I can identify the bills, they all had pictures of Andrew Jackson on them.

Sounds like it's time to upgrade your customers.

Would that it were possible in the real world.

Well the last few days have been exhausting.

Had to attend a reception on Saturday night in Stockton Cal., then drive to Reno, Nv. on sunday morning.

We stayed at the Sands Regency, not upscale but it's clean, reasonably priced, and they have an Original Mel's Diner just off the casino floor [Yes it's the same Mel's Diner that was in American Graffitti.  The one used as the set for A.G. {in Modesto, Cal.} no longer exists but the chain lives on as does the memory and memorabilia of A.G.] .  We wanted to extend our stay for One More Day so we could take care of some business to move our relocation project along another step but we couldn't.  We figured it was becuse they were already booked out for the Reno Rodeo, which is a Really Big Deal [TM] and is aalso celebrated it's 100th year this weekend but no, that wasn't the reason.  They are shutting down most of the faclity, including the casino, so they can do  major switchover of the hotels utilities.  The Supervisor at the Front Desk says he's been telling everybody the squirrel died and it will take all night to get another one placed on the treadmill.

So we packed up, and ended up in North Carson City as the nearest place with any rooms available [did I mention that the Reno Rodeo is a really big deal every year?]

Once we got checked in to the Hampton Inn [part of Hilton, the same people who run the hotel and convention center for ReaperCon] we both decided to rest for "just  a little while".

I didn't wake up until Jeopardy was on the TV.

Once we get done in Reno it's off to Roseville, Ca. and a week of hangin' out with the Grandkidlets. Daughter and Son in Law are going to the Azores for a week of combination vacation and genealogical research trip.  Meanwile Nana and Papa will be having fun with the kids.  Toy Story 4 is already on the list, along with a trip to FLGS, and [hopefully] a good amount of time with paint and brushes.  I've brought a bunch od small minis in addition to my current projects so if the kids want to Paint with Papa  there are mins for them to work on.

Late yesterday afternoon we drove out to Stagecoach and I walked the lot for our new home.  There are fresh survey stakes up on the corners and depending on how soon and deep the well has to be drilled [and what the water quality is]  this will be a major factor in our total project cost.  We have electricity to the property line so our costs there will be manageable.  The lot is level and I'm going to talk with our General Contactor, wh is also the provider of the modular, about having their subs put any excess clean fill from other area projects on our lot as I want the house up about two feet above the level grade.

This is a full size terrain construction project, and I hope we only need to do it once.

Our Nevada State Odd Fellows & Rebekahs Convention went well, but the sessions were long.  Everything was held at the Reno Odd Fellows Hall, and members of the lodge cooked five meals for the convention attendees so we didn't have to go off site for lunches.  Having a hot breakfast cooked for us was also nice.

We figured it was because they were already booked out for the Reno Rodeo, which is a Really Big Deal [TM] and is also celebrated it's 100th year this weekend but no, that wasn't the reason.  They are shutting down most of the faclity, including the casino, so they can do  a major switchover of the hotels utilities.  The Supervisor at the Front Desk says he's been telling everybody the squirrel died and it will take all night to get another one placed on the treadmill.

Reason #317 why I love RPGs: MrBoot and I got into a theoretical discussion about how one could recreate Cloud from FF7 in Pathfinder.

Well, it was theoretical...until he started to pull out books and look up feats and equipment.

So, long story short, I've now put together a decent facsimile of Cloud (it only took me 7 different books and far too many hours, but it was a fun challenge). The best part is that this happened at just the right time in our campaign, with increasing planar stability leading to portals opening up to the Abyss. In the next session, Cloud is going to come roaring out of a portal on his motorcycle and start laying waste to heaps of demons with his ridiculous sword. I'm ridiculously excited for this moment. ::D: :B):

The story we came up with is that the same planar instability thing is happening in other worlds, and on his planet, Cloud used a special materia to close the rifts. Unfortunately he got caught up in the energy rebound of the instability collapsing and was flung into the Abyss. I decided that using the special materia drained a bunch of his life force and destroyed most of his regular materia to get enough energy to work, which is why he's only level 7 (like the rest of the party) and only has a small handful of "materia" left. Those are really just regular spells (from a book called, ironically enough, Spheres of Power), renamed and visually reskinned as "materia magic abilities" and "summons." I'm rather pleased with how they turned out.

Figuring out how to do his Limit Break abilities took the most time, and it basically came down to a handful of feats/abilities that increase melee attack/damage/speed/awesomeness for 1 or 2 rounds, which I will only trigger once he's taken a decent amount of damage. His ridiculously big sword was fun to figure out; he needs 2 feats just to wield the silly thing.

I don't generally like complicated character creation (too much crunchy maths and fiddly double-checking of rules), but I actually enjoyed this. I can't wait to see just how big his pile of damage will get when his Limit Break gets used. Pretty sure I'm gonna need a calculator.

Huzzah!

We’ve got a raccoon.

Just heard a weird chirping out front in the rain. Looked out in time to see a big roly-poly shadow slip out the front gate and into the neighbor’s foliage.

For those new to the channel, we live in the middle of a major metropolitan area.
