February Bones Black Promotional Mini - Rock Troll

I've attached the images I sent to CS. I can't speak to the nature of the missing bit. I tried the water trick but the result wasn't great. The bend in the right leg was pretty significant, like the top of the foot had been bent towards the leg.

I opted to fill the hole, which is no big deal, but the base had to be replaced which is fine.

Mostly I was just taken aback by the dismissive response from CS.

As for the QA issues my concern would be if this is something that needs to be checked in on. I've only been collecting Reaper for a short time, probably spent ~$500 mostly on larger Bones monsters. The Owlbear and Troll have had significantly more pronounced mold lines  and the Troll had this weird notch taken out of the side. I would hate for this to be a trend

Love the sculpt though and the price point is great.

I’ve added a couple of poorly taken pics of my troll.

He has a similar notched hole in his side from what looks to me like sloppy sprue detachment at the factory.

Mine looks to fit on the base better than yours. Even though mine too has a slight leg bend, it should glue down well.

I’m surprised by your mention of noticeable mold lines on your owl bear. Mine had Very little. I really had to look for them.

However there are very noticeable mold lines on my troll.

The good thing is they are well placed, not going across any detailed areas, so they should be easily removed.

Overall I’m very happy with mine.

My own feeling is that the issues are easily fixable and despite them still a big improvement over the original Bones.

I should add that I didn’t pay for my troll. It was a freebie from having a question of mine answered on a Reaper Live show.

For the hot water reset, it really needs to be boiling water. And with a bend that significant at least a min in the water. A few secs will only fix minor issues, thicker pieces like the trolls leg need longer to warm up. That additional time needed is what most people forget.

My owlbear has some pretty noticeable mold lines, but no mold slip. If more mold lines is what it takes and then the figure has higher detail resolution, I'm okay with that trade-off. The chunk at the seam on the troll is annoying though. Still, gap filling with green stuff is a pretty regular occurrence in the hobby, so it isn't the end of the world.

I've been collecting/painting minis since the late 80s, I understand what is a regular occurrence. My concern isn't that these mini are not acceptable, rather I've noticed a negative change between Bones vs Bones Black in this very small sample size.

I'm not saying the sky is falling. I am saying. "Hey maybe this is an edge case, but maybe this very new process, and very new material, has an annoying bug. If so, it might be worth checking in on."

It's entirely possible my experience is an edge case. That would be awesome, but please don't dismiss my experience.

In the past month I've put together the follow large scale Reaper minis.

Fire Giant Jailer and the Fire Giant with two handed sword.

Temple Dragon

Hill Giant

Earth Elemental

2 x Owlbear

Rock Troll

Each bones black figure took more time to prep then the 4 bones models together. In comparison I also prepped  a  Shambling Mound from the pre-primed WizKids line, that was more inline with the bones black figures in  terms of the amount of flash/mold lines, removal  and gap filling required.

Which is odd since the SM I have didn't have any gaps. At least none I found when I through a simple green basecoat & a Army Painter shade over it for a game I had last November. Mold lines yes, but I wasn't really worried about those. Where did you find the gaps on yours?

& yes I've seen some nasty gaps on the Wizkids minis. Werewolf had a nasty chest gap where his arm connects is a good example.

I hope next month we see a normal size figure/figures as I'd really like to understand how this material is going to effect the bulk of the minis going forward. I still think the greater detail is worth the drawbacks even for these medium creatures, perhaps they just need a step up in quality control as gouges from sprue cutting is certainly preventable and in truth has little to do with the material itself.

I believe it was mentioned that the March figure would be small enough to fit in the standard packaging, so that would lead me to believe that it's a human-sized figure. Won't know for sure for another 15 days though.

absolutely no Quality control for this mini.  Reaper should be totally embarrassed by this product, definitely doesn't live up to previous standards.  huge gaps, holes where it was torn from sprue, feet don't align with base,  not just a one off for the one I received, many people getting crappy trolls this month.  Please fix this ReaperIMG_20190215_175249.thumb.jpg.ae53f43da3e0f2b516fc5b7cca938f0e.jpgIMG_20190215_175302.thumb.jpg.7aaea68ede550a8c79a60308ffa2fa21.jpgIMG_20190215_175352.thumb.jpg.f762f78a7761ca99bc5cb9683cad76fc.jpgIMG_20190215_175412.thumb.jpg.3c12bbb46bd5ae0fb93f4aa6004edc87.jpgIMG_20190215_180718.thumb.jpg.0b3349add7b00417d5db4b415b0cca57.jpgIMG_20190215_175249.thumb.jpg.ae53f43da3e0f2b516fc5b7cca938f0e.jpgIMG_20190215_175302.thumb.jpg.7aaea68ede550a8c79a60308ffa2fa21.jpg

They addressed the issues with the troll in the newest Reaper live video. They said they are aware and have listened to the customers and are taking action to fix the quality control. In the meantime, they show a method for people to fix the gaps if they don't want to mess with greenstuff. (They used PVA)
