Painting Miniatures

Gauntfield 77211 Dark Haven Scarecrow Miniature By Reaper

Recommended Posts

I plan on posting something a little more friendly looking very shortly. coughwyrmgeardragoncough but in the mean time I painted this for fun and practice!

Also would take some advice on dealing with small details like a face. On this miniature it was nearly impossible to just paint specific details of the face without smooshing the entire face with paint. I'd wanted to give the figure blood red eyes. That didn't work out and I ended up painting over the face in white to start over again.

I do overall like how this miniature turned out. The bones aren't crispy perfect white, the clothes look like a creature that's been walking through mud and dirt for a long time. Didn't know how to paint the base so I went with some of my extra black wash which worked out as it sort of made it look like it was standing on bone.

Tried a new technique on the scythe. I did the base coat as filigree silver, then I did a paint of dragons blood red, then when that dried i went over it again with the black wash to give it this dried blood effect. A technique that is probably standard but one I personally just learned by experimenting!

Nice and bloody!

Who needs friendly minis? Gives us the monsters!

Very nice!

If I might make a suggestion for the future, try to use some contrasting colours.

He looks good, but his clothes, the bag and the wood are all browns.

If you used another colour, like a dark green, a purple, red or even a black on his clothes he would stand out more.

I would also paint the base so it looks like grass/sand/ice or whatever you want him to be on.

Keep painting and show us your work!

We're addicted to pics of painted minis..

Believe it or not, I painted all of the brown the same color. Then I did a wash in black to make them stand out as an aging technique. My reasoning was I wanted to give the impression that the brown leather color was the same material. Oddly they look like different leather browns but thats because of the black wash pooling in different areas and drying darker and lighter in some places depending on how much wash I put on.

In truth about the base I didn't know what I wanted him to be standing on so I went with black and red.

I'll keep the suggestions in mind though. Today I am working on WyrmGear 77177. That is an exhausting mini!

Well, I managed to fight my way back into hobbying...at least a little bit.  The wraiths were some of the minis I was anxious to get at, so I wasted no time.

I thought about doing the expected (black and grey), but that left me uninspired.  So I thought about ROY-G-BV-ing them.  But I didn't have any OYs that I thought would be appropriate.  So I just muddled my way through.

My apologies to Bob Ridolfi, your sculpts are wonderful and deserve better than what I can throw on them.

The new wood paints were brought out to work the haft.
Muddy Soil served as the base for Bloodstain Red and Clotted Red

Nightmare Black followed by Carbon Grey and Glacier Mist.  This was a little too close to the Blue Greys triad, I was hoping for something further off.

The robes were started with Coal Black, and then hit with Peacock Green.  Brilliant Green finished them.  The tabard was started with Pure Black, followed with Stormy Grey, and then finished with Cloudy Grey.

The robes were started with Pure Black, then followed up with Dark Elf Shadow and Dark Elf Skin.  This is one of my favorite combinations.

I love the Blue Greys triad.  Midnight Blue, Twilight Blue, and then a 50/50 mix of Twilight Blue and Snow Shadow.  I think this is my favorite.

I wanted a monument reminiscent of marble, so I started with Leather White, Pure White, and finished with Sparkling Snow.
The robes were done with Regal Purple, Monarch Purple, and Royal Purple.  The difference is a little more obvious in person, but I was having troubles with the camera.

One of my favorite Fantasy races are the Undead.
This thread will be dedicated to all the beautiful female vampires/necromancers/ghosts and apparitions.
I will also include all my Sophie minis..

Here are the girls I have painted before to show what this is all about, soon more Undead / Evil Sisters will follow.

EDIT - Changed the Name of the thread from the Alluring Death to Ladies of Death since not all are actually Undead.

A litte surprise attack ( No WIP). A quick job , I painted her in 2 hours to try some stuff out.

She's from Ironwind Metals ( Ral Partha) and she is a lookalike of Vampirella, only a "bit" more "developed".

She might not be nude but she wears so little I decided to link the Pics ..because well she might as well be naked.

I had fun painting her and I tried a marble green base, not sure if this worked out, but practice practice...right?

Paints involved..The Reaper Vampire Skin Triad..Scale 75 Antares Red, Inktense Red, Chestnut Ink , Elven Gold, Decay Black and Deep Blue.

Terezinya was painted up to be a vampire character in my dnd game, the rest are fairly self explanatory.

The translucent green Bones were given a coating of Grass Green India Ink and then had details highlighted out. They're retained their translucent quality while having better detail visibility.
