Feb 14: Valentine's Day: Love it, Loathe it, or Meh?

Single, and living alone. So aside from other people talking about it, it's a total non-event from my perspective. I'm happy for those who do get to enjoy it, but my life is not changing because of it.

Though I do like the tiny cinnamon hearts.

Meh.

Lady Klarg and I take it as an excuse to celebrate together, which is fun, but we could do that some other time with fewer crowds, and less commercialism.

I suppose it's nice to be prompted to make sure we find time at least once a year.

Meh, but the wife likes to do something special.

Charisma.

I'm not the "fun guy"; I'm not the popular one; often the last picked in teams; introverted stay at home kind of guy; you get the idea. I wouldn't say it's a negative stat either. Just very few skill points allocated to my social skills. The one exception is children. I have a knack in befriending them. I think my naturally calm demeanor makes me project a friendly non-threatening aura.

My physical stats used to be my dump stats. But going to th gym greatly improved my strength and constitution. I may not be able to juggle, but my fine motor skill is still pretty solid.

I have never needed a specific day on which to tell my spouse how much I adore her. And, when I am smart enough to spot a gift that I think she will appreciate, I give it to her with little delay.

This.  We don't make a big fuss about it. Sometimes we pick a nice restaurant, sometimes we go for burgers, sometimes I make a nice dinner at home.  I like chocolate, but I don't need (or want) a huge box of it, especially the cheap stuff they sell for the occasion.

Meh, I guess?  It's not a huge affair for us but we do celebrate it, as follows:

  • On a day before Valentine's Day (usually, the day before but sometimes we've done it earlier), we go out for sushi at her favorite restaurant.  (You try finding a table at a good sushi restaurant on Valentine's Day.)
  • We give each other cards in the morning.
  • We raid discounted candy sections as appropriate, usually on the day or the days shortly after.  However, the pickings have been getting slimmer and slimmer.

We almost didn't do cards this year.  It's possible we won't in the future.

It varies, dump to dump. The most recent one had a high score... :zombie:

IRL: Gotta be wisdom. Do I really need more minis? Of course I do! Bones 4? Hasn't arrived, doesn't count!! Lalalalala I can't hear you!

In game? Currently strength. Normally an 8, currently a 2. :unsure: Stupid shadows...

Meh. It's nice to have a day to get her out to dinner, though.

We rarely eat at restaurants, since the quality of food is generally worse than what we eat at home. When we do eat out, it's generally very expensive, since we have to go to the top places with fancy chefs. It's not like I think I'm great at cooking, I just like good food and apparently there are a lot of people who are unfamiliar with properly-prepared meals.

The fiancee knows I'm testing a new restaurant when I order the salmon with broccoli and rice. There are almost zero restaurants that can prepare all three properly!

Here's the place we're going this year, our favorite local spot: http://oceanbluerestaurant.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/DINNER020419.pdf

Feb 12: How good are you about using the appropriate PPE (personal protection equipment) when the situation warrants it?*

*He asks as he sits here with bronchitis like symptoms coughing up gold dust from last nights polishing endeavors without a mask on.

I work in construction, so it's not an option for work related things on the rare occasion that I have ever needed to go out into the field as I work in the main office on contract requirements. When it comes to hobbying, yeeeeah, no, I don't really worry that much about most things except for trying to prevent projectiles and when I do realize that I should have better ventilation, like when using something like plastic cement, it is usually because it has occurred to me that the cat should not be breathing in those fumes rather than any concern for myself.

As someone who does not play tabletop games, I would like you all to know that what a "dump stat" sounds like to me is not something that I can type on this family friendly board.

When I was single I really loathed it a lot because it was hard to go through a day where everything was doing its best to remind me that I was lonely. Now that I'm in a long distance relationship, I think "meh" probably covers it, as now it serves as a reminder that he's 2,300 miles away and other couples get to choose how special or not they want to make any given day and we have to make do. That being said, I'm not one to make any holiday about obligations and I love my dumb goblin more than I like going out to dinner or flowers or anything like that, so we'd be doing a lowkey thing anyway... but it'd be nice to have the option to make a mutual decision to make something dumb and lovey dovey or to be able to surprise each other.

After the events of last night, I realize that I need to “revise and extend my remarks”.

I burned bacon. In a microwave. I was going for extra crispy. Much of it was  extra, extra, very, crispy. But one spot was all the way black. I have never before achieved crispy bacon cooking it at home. This was a first.

All previous attempts have been a greasy soggy mess.

Last week, I heard a strange buzzing noise coming from the kitchen. Fearing the fridge was about to die I investigated. It wasn’t the fridge. But I could not audibly isolate or track down the noise. Skipping to the end of the story...the noise ceased when the 220volt circuit breaker that is dedicated to the range/oven unit was thrown to the off position. (All the normal switches on the face of the unit were already in the Off positions  ).

All of the above forces a Conclusion: My dump stat is culinary arts, not Dexterity.

(I do, have a very low effective Dex score, but I realized this is mostly due to  various negative modifiers.)

Or at least until you leave the toilet seat up. It seems to always go downhill after that in my experience.

When with someone, sure why not. When not, if the Grinch would steal Valentine's Day, I'd be ok with that. I sit there like Elle Woods from Legally Blonde, watching soap operas, eating a chocolate heart-box, and then throw it at the tv when they say they'll always love each other, screaming "LIAR!!"
