Looks like TS is under the weather again, so here goes for today.

Tea: hot or cold?

Sure!

It's winter, so I'll take hot for now, but there is nothing wrong with a good iced tea.

I'll add my own sweetener, if any, thanks.

Well, I totally missed the weekend.  Sorry.  Sick wife and lots to do.  Back at it now though.

Not really. It might be nice to have one, but I don't.

I actually have three:

1. For work, "Always bet on stupidity."

2. "Beware of your desires, for you shall surely attain them."

3. "Let courage rise with danger, and strength to strength oppose."

"Do not fear difficulty. Hard ground makes stronger roots."

(My favorite culture ever created are the plant people in Guild Wars 2, the sylvari. This is from Ventari's Tablet, basically their Commandments.)

Not to worry; we endured the cold weather contemplating hot beverages.

I do not. (Nor do I have a coat-of-arms [except in the SCA...i.e: doesn’t count] or supporters, or a Crest**, or a badge, or torse and mantling.)

I did once consider registering a cattle brand.

**The Crest is ONLY that tiny animal, or tuft of feathers, or whatever mounted on top of the helmet. It is possible to have a coat-of-arms but NO ‘family crest’.

I have two:

Don't Fear the Scalpel

This came from my early sculpting career when I was afraid to cut off a part that was flawed or "good enough" and resculpt it.  As time has progressed, I realized that it really encompasses a more general outlook on how I work, that is, don't stop until you have done the job right, and if something is not right; remove it and rework it until it is right.  I don't expect perfection from myself in everything I do; but I do expect that I should never settle for mediocrity and keep pushing for perfection, so I use the scalpel (both real and figurative) to remove the wrong and make it right.

Do Justly, Love Mercy, Walk Humbly with Your God

This comes from a Steven Curtis Chapman song called "The Walk" which, IIRC, paraphrased it from the Bible, probably somewhere in Proverbs.  It really encompasses who I want to be, and how I strive to live my life.

No, I don't think I do.

My email signature used to contain the sentence "Sub caelo noctis sto quod stellae mihi spem dant.", which is a (possibly bad - I translated it) translation into Latin of "I stand beneath the night sky because the stars give hope to me."  Poetic, but not a motto.

Why does the SCA not count?

I don't have any mottos per se. But I do have a couple of maxims.

  • "Never vote for/support the biggest loudmouth."
  • "Don't vote for/support the one who only points out the problems, but is silent on the solutions."
  • "Optimize laziness!"
  • "Be loyal to your company, but don't expect loyalty from them in return."
  • "I'll do it tomorrow. This time for sure." [repeat]
  • "Girls are great/women are awesome!" (I blame thank hormones for this one)

"Do small things with great love" - Mother Teresa

My inspiration most days because being a stay at home mom means doing a lot of trivial stuff to support little people.  The love part is what makes a Mom more than just a housekeeper.

"Perfect is the enemy of good." - stolen from Guindyloo.

I have a tendency to dither and be afraid to start things.  This helps me jump in.
