Getting to Know You, Feb 2019

There's no way I can narrow it down to even 5, so I'm just going to +1 to all those already mentioned.

Actually, I don't think anyone mentioned Clyde Caldwell:

Like most people here Elmore was my gateway artist. It is way too hard to choose just one but I’d like to throw a special mention out for three artists that I think are pretty spectacular and I haven’t seen mentioned (yet).

Joma Cueto

Spoiler

Jason DeBit (May need to look for jdillustrates)

Spoiler

And Tess Fowler

Spoiler

I’ll try to add some pictures a bit later when I figure out how to do spoiler tags and make the images reasonably sized and still make sure I’m crediting the artists properly.

Okay, so today is another day, and now my favourite is Rodney Mathews:

Or maybe Brom;

Or even the wonderfully appropriately named Dorian Cleavenger:

Or even dear old Heath Robinson:

I really don’t have much of a bucket list. But I have just added an item.

See, you joke, but he happens to have some Edgar Allen Poe illustrations that I think are great, and his Oz related illustrations are beautiful. I may have a very specific look that I tend to gravitate toward, but I appreciate a lot of different styles of art. Take me to an art museum and I'm going to spend most of my time admiring the renaissance work, for instance.

The Oz artwork was the first thing that popped into my head as being several universes away from Giger,  at least in terms of content. Personally, I've always found that the more art you love, the more art there is to love. Variety just highlights how beautiful each different work really is.

That one was used as an album cover for Diamond Head - Am I Evil.

Superb!

Wow, I was hoping we'd get to see some great art and you guys didn't disappoint.  Thanks!  I'll post my answer later, but for now:

Any day involving proper shephard's pie and fried pickle spears.

Feb 21: Describe a perfect day.

  • Getting up late.
  • Beautiful sunny day, pleasantly warm, the kind where you can cool down in the shade.
  • A good large breakfast. Preferably with plenty of coffee and bacon.
  • No work commitments
  • Spending day with friends hobbying.
  • Quiet breaks. Can be a swimming pool; watching TV; internet.
  • Relaxing evening with friend and drinks.

Basically, ReaperCon. ::D:

This is gonna sound hecking cheesy, but any day I get to spend with my Hubby doing fun stuff. Especially if I got plenty of sleep.

Feb 21: Describe a perfect day.

Wake up after a good nights sleep to see a stunning sunrise streaming in through the bedroom windows of my nice new home.

A quick shower, make the wife and self a cup of good strong tea, then potter around in the den, basing, priming and preparing figures for a later session.

Breakfast. Local fresh milk and home cured bacon feature prominently.

A morning in the garden, working up a righteous sweat planting veg or just keeping things in trim.

A shower then a bowl of soup for lunch, home-made of course.

A long leisurely afternoon painting a miraculously realistic and eye-catching figure that will be the envy of all.

Dinner. ideally fresh fish or an ox-cheek, depending on the season.

An evening spent with my new local friends, running a D&D session that keeps everybody excited and amused in equal measure.

Read a chapter of a good book in bed before another excellent nights sleep.

I'm fortunate enough to be able to say that some variation on this does happen quite often when I'm ashore.

I can't, because it can vary widely depending on my mood.

Some days, it's just spending time with one or both of my kids.
Other days, it's spending the day with my wife.
Other days, it's just being left alone to hobby in some fashion.

In my best Russian accent: There is knock on door. I open door. It is the KGB. They say: "Are you Boris Slobonski?".

I say: "Nyet. He live on the next floor.". That is a perfect day.

Get a good sleep (this is so rare for me), finish some important work on the farm, paint/play/hobby stuff in the evening and go to bed satisfied that things worked out.
