Popular Post Xiwo Xerase
This is 77373: Cuth Wolfson, Barbarian, a Bones mini sculpted by Kev White. The (short) WIP thread is over here. The primary goal for this mini was to try painting with the Bronzed Skin triad. I did time how long it took to paint but I didn't focus on that. (He took about seven hours, by the way.) (A joke borrowed from MST3K: "I'm huge!") (click on the pictures for larger versions) I added Violet Red to some of the deeper shadows, which I think is a little more prevalent than it should be here. Two of the shadows on his back look more like scars than shadows (which, for this guy, is probably not out of place). I tried to focus on bringing out the details present in the mini. I don't have a very good grasp of anatomy (yet) so I'm reliant on what's present on the mini. Were I to repaint him, I would spend much more time prepping the mini. (Past me didn't do a great job.) This includes both the mold lines and filling in the gaps in his shoulders. While I'm at it, I would remove the arms and paint them separately from the body. His belt has detail that I couldn't get to very well because of his arms. Watching "Conan the Barbarian" again might also be a good idea. He's painted well enough for tabletop and I'm willing to leave it at that. As always, constructive criticism and comments are welcome. I won't be doing further work on this mini (except maybe sealing) but I can always use advice to improve my next one.
Glitterwolf
He looks great! Barbaric Splendor! If stuff like tattoos, shadows, higlights, warpaint etc is too much, you can try to tone it down with a glaze. In most cases a glaze made from the medium skintone will help to tone things down a notch. You might need to reapply highlights after that. 2
Warlady
Overall, a good job.
Iridil
I like him - especially from the front - his chest looks wonderful. Nice weathering on the gear. 1

I think my issue with the Violet Red is that it's simply beating up the skin tone colors, even when mixed with them. I've been using Violet Red to reproduce something from @Corporea's flesh and faces course at ReaperCon last year. I didn't take as good notes as I should. I suspect I should be using Pale Violet Red for the shadows instead, and something darker for the deeper shadows (I tried using Red Brick here as a step up from Walnut Brown). That reminds me... if I were to redo this again, I might try freehanding tattoos. 10 hours ago, Warlady said: Overall, a good job. So, when I was looking at this earlier, I noticed the fur around his and overlapping his belt is melding into the leather. I suspect I did not drybrush these bits of fur very well (or possibly at all) so they don't stand out. Something to fix for next time! Patrik Strom
Nice! I've been eyeing that figure for a while. I think you just made the final sales pitch :)

Like @bluecrowlaura said in the WIP thread comments, he's an excellent figure for practicing skin tones. He's got a lot of skin, a lot of bulging muscles for shadows and highlights, and he's wearing a helmet so you don't have to stress out about painting his face.
primeval
Found this while searching for examples of Bronzed Skin Triad usage - and I am sold; a fine exemplar of barbaric splendor indeed!
