CIRCUS: Herq, the Strong Man (50273)

Recommended Posts

"STEP right up, ladiesangennlemen, to BEHOLD Herq the Turk, the modern world's greatest student of physical culture! From the Bosporus, standing six foot six in his socks and weighing TWO hundredan'sixty-three pounds NONE of it fat, a Hercules or Gargantua for the twentieth century, with a neck thicker than a normal man's waist and a chest LIKE A BRICK OVEN! He's got an arm like a leg, and a punch that could SINK A BATTLESHIP!  Watch him bend IRON BARS as though they were WAX! Watch him juggle kettlebells no other man could LIFT! His very MUSCLES have muscles!"

50273 is a whimsical sculpt, bald as an egg and with mustachios that would make Poirot weep with envy. Looks like Stieg Brinegrog's (03627) brother who's taken care of his waistline. I did the weights up in ArmyPainter Rough Iron mixed with a touch of black, and decided on slimming vertical stripes on the shorts and horizontal stripes on the tank top, so as to deceive the eye into seeing him as even bulkier.

Of course, on a canvas like this, you gotta add some shoulder, back, and chest hair. The sight of him shirtless is "STRONGLY contraindicated for children, ladies prone to the vapors, or gentlemen of nervous disposition, and attendants ARE on hand to remove those audience members who faint at the sight of SO MUCH MAN!!"

Been working on these guys as a test for the squad color scheme. Trying some layering on the white, it's working out well so far.
They're 1:48 scale, same as Star Wars Legion, and I've rebased them onto the same 27mm bases that Legion uses. Mostly because the standard D1947 bases are like 35mm. Way huge.

Here's a few of the 3d printed characters from the crowdfunded project by Kazrak Studio.  They were done in resin, and have some very fine details.

John H. Damon, who likes to read old books written in strange languages:

Dr Weird Psychic, a student of the mystic arts who needs no introduction:

Laura Craft, field archaeologist and explorer:

And dear Dr Home, the brilliant surgeon with a lousy bedside manner:

All are presented on bases from Secret Weapon.

Good ol' Frank Buck, always manages to find trouble, no matter where he goes.  And when he doesn't find it, you can be sure trouble is looking for him.  This was a quick speed paint, making use of washes and shading products.

Karla, Anime Heroine, is a beautiful sculpt with a great nurse hat. The miniskirt, while delightful, could be more pulp-era appropriate, so I sculpted a hemline extension. I also replaced a handgun with a syringe, and then gave her a couple of backup syringes and converted her other firearm to a needle gun. She is here to cure what ails you!

And with her colleagues, Anne Foster (50258) and Dr. Welby (50257):

Stay healthy, folks, and get your shots!

Bombshell just came out with a resin version of their dieselpunk pinup/supersoldier, Liberty. She's a great dynamic sculpt, zaftig and muscular with it. Now, we all know this is evoking some 'what if Haley Attewell became Captain America' vibes, but I've already painted up our red-white-and-blue hero before, as well as an Agent Carter type and even a Captain Canada. So, I might as well continue down the North American continent. Presenting: Capitan Mexica!

Click for the rest of the turnaround:
Alas, the resin gun she came with was fragile and I had to kitbash on a sturdier one. Her shield is taken from an Aztec warrior from this series.
Not so much Nazi-punching to do, but she has plenty of threats to contend with that would imperil the good folk of Mexico:

      ...some stranger than others!

      And some downright bizarre:

Here she is with her northern counterparts:

Guest appearances by: Cactus Joe, 50318; Lobo Sanchez, 50050; Diamond Sue Dawson, 50111; El Diablo, 50035; Incredible Woman, 50212; and John Bishop, 50068.
