Does anyone know or are we to assume that the categories for 2019 are going to be the same as in years past?  Wish they would have something other than just the link to hotel on the website.   It is only 6 months away.

That is correct, painting categories are stable and do not change. Only the manufacturer awards change and there is an active thread for 2019. Currently we have the following manufacturers committed to additional awards (and more maybe added):

Bombshell Miniatures

Chibi Gamers

Dark Sword Miniatures

Frozen Ninja 3D

Galladoria Games

Normally the website is linked to everything but it’s going through a major rebuild this year.

This will be my 3rd ReaperCon, but my first time entering anything for competition. I have seen in that past that every entry has an index card with the title of the piece, the artists name, and a number and bar code. Do the artists supply the index cards with this information, or is this printed out for them when they turn in their pieces? I am planning to submit in the Painters competition if that makes a difference. Thanks.

The cards are given at the entry registration, with the printed labels done there, so no worries on your end. Be sure to have a title for your entry! That’ll be something they will want you to know.

My number one priority right now.

I may have missed it, but is there a list somewhere of all the other stuff you entry can be considered for? Like, the manufacturer awards and what other categories there are special prizes for? For example: last year there was a chibi, and giant monster award. I feel like I saw somewhere there would be a Sophie category? ( Not the Sophie trophy, but a Sophie herself category)

Thanks!

There will be a post put up as the 3rd parties commit to it. Last years (2019) can be found here and you can find 2018's here , and 2017's here .  As you can see, it varies year-to-year, though there are a few regulars.  Odds are probably good that, if they attend, Bombshell and Darksword will have something again, they're all good friends of Reaper's and have had their own things going for several years now.

I always thought those were usually posted around the same time, again it varies year to year.  2019 was the first time I remember Paint it Pink being an award, and I don't think I remember seeing the Chibi Gamers before either.

I think in 2019 the giant monster thing was something Anne herself was hosting, but honestly before check-in I don't remember seeing where it was listed or any kind of criteria for it.  I think sometimes those side competitions are either last minute or introduced as a surprise and if you have something that qualifies, lucky you.  Helsier will usually try to keep those pulled together as he can, but it will usually be closer to Con time.

As for the Sophie Trophies - those are popular vote. Each painter who enters one or more minis into the showcase is given one ticket. (not one per entry, one per painter), you can fill in your pick for the Sophie trophy and put it in a box. They count those votes and that's how the Sophies are given out.  See correction from Guindy below

This is incorrect. The Sophie trophies are awarded by the judges and are considered a sponsored award by Reaper and are judged from eligible entries of Reaper figures.

You are thinking of the Best of Show awards, those are selected by entrant voting.

From the Reapercon website:

"The Best of Show is chosen by combined vote of the judges and entrants. Each entrant has a single vote, while each judge has three. Since there are always far more entrants than judges, the judges' block of votes generally never amounts to more than 25% of the total. In the event that the judges' block does exceed 25%, it will be capped at that amount and prorated with the entrant's block of votes."

*ETA: To be fair, I do believe that if you win Best of Show with a Reaper figure, they do give you a Sophie trophy for it, but I'm not 100% certain of that.
