Dunkeldorf---28mm Fantasy Towsfolk

Recommended Posts

I'm still not quite sure if I like that they all look so grumpy, but I find myself being drawn back to this ks again and again.

Maybe I need to run a Ravenloft campaign in the future, those people all have reasons to be miserable or evil.

Big thumbs up to the very detailed scale comparison pictures, I would love if all smaller miniature KS included something like that by default. It helps so much.

Thanks Ratmaster2000 and JoeGKushner! :)

Nunae, glad you like the scale comparison photos, we've experienced the lack of these in the past on some Kickstarters, so we really felt that it was important to do these :)

Regarding them looking grumpy, I don't personally find it that bad. I have all the Reaper townsfolk by Bobby Jackson in my collection, and they're definitely not running around with huge smiles on their faces either :P - So I don't feel that it's something that really stands out compared to many other miniatures. And the setting that we're creating with Dunkeldorf is pretty gloomy, so it wouldn't make sense if they looked too happy ;)

But with that being said, I can definitely see what you mean, and it's something that we'll be more aware of in the future. We'll make sure to throw in a couple more smiles on the next one :D

We have just added a new Add-on 6x Wooden Floor / Tavern Bases. These can be added for 32 DKK / Approximately 5 USD - https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/kinggames/dunkeldorf-28mm-fantasy-rpg-townsfolk-miniatures/posts/2460841

Your miniatures all have a theme, a lot of personality and fit together nicely. I quite like that, because I don't really need more "generic" filler-type miniatures in metal, when there are so many more affordable miniatures to bulk out a collection. The miniatures (maybe in combination with the paint job) do a really good job at capturing a facial expression, which is also difficult to achieve.

The theme happens to be really gloomy (which a lot of people seem to like, otherwise you wouldn't be backed this much) and that's just not everyone's cup of tea. But that happens with themes that are more out-there: some will love them, some will have no use for them. You can't fulfill everyone's wishes.

Long story short, I have decided to back. I think the miniatures themselves are a bit more versatile than the (excellent) art, which really emphasizes the gloomy tone.

Mixed in with other townsfolk it's probably ok to have a few grumpy faces

But also, there are nuances between really grumpy/annoyed and super big goofy smile. I wasn't implying the next ones should all look like they're having the time of their lives.

I still wish I could back this... I really want those cats and the butcher dwarf who just looks SO done with everyone's BS

Will these be available outside the KS?

Nunae, thanks for that thorough reply, it's great to get such feedback, and thank you so much for backing!

The very first thing we talked about when we started the project, was that we did not want to make generic townsfolk, we wanted them to be quite unique, and that, combined with the gloomy tone definitely isn't everyone's cup of tea as you mention. But I agree with you, that the miniatures are much more versatile than the artwork, both because of the sculpt but also because a paint job can make a huge difference :)

redambrosia, the animals will be made available separately in our Pledge Manager after the campaign. So if you're just interested in the dwarf and the cats, you could take the "Peasant" pledge, choose the dwarf miniature and add the two cats as add-on :)

All the miniatures will be available in our webshop after all pledges have been shipped out (Most likely a few months later) but, if you're going for the Noble Pledge, you save more than 50% of the planned retail price. (Due to the already reduced price on the Pledges, but also because of all the free Stretch Goals)

Glad to hear it redambrosia, thanks! We can always figure something out later on, just send us a message and we'll sort it out (If you don't have the funds during the Pledge Manager). As long as you write to us before we ship out your pledge of course :)

We have just unlocked the very last Stretch Goal of the campaign - https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/kinggames/dunkeldorf-28mm-fantasy-rpg-townsfolk-miniatures/posts/2468575

Which means that the Noble Pledge is getting everything below:

  • 17 Miniatures (5 added for free through Stretch Goals)
  • 3 Animals (2 Cats & 1 Dog)
  • 10 Accessories (Chopping Block, Lockbox, Anvil, Feast, Wiener Barrel, Surgeon Bag & Cauldron, Coin Pouch, Curiosities, Wine Bottles)
  • 5 Weapons (Throwing Axe, Dagger, Rapier, Zweihander & Cleaver)
  • 18 Miniature Posters

Early bird does not do much - it's not cheaper and you don't get extra minis. It was probably my EB ;) ... I dropped down to the six mini pledge level as I cannot really justify all of them (nice as they are). I added more money to get two more, but eight is about as much as I want / need / can tell my wife.

You can jump back to noble level in the pledge manager, and still get everything from what I was told:)

OMG!  Jason Weibe helped create the new Dwarven line being released on Kickstarter by Tomb Guardians!  These minis look so cool and they are cheap!  I haven't seen anyone post about this yet but here is the link.  It starts tomorrow morning.  They also said Bobby Jackson and Gene Van Horne created there monsters in the set.  Cant wait.   I purchased there Amazons and they were fantastic!  I posted some pics.  Im assuming the Fire Demon and add ons are in Resin.
