TheBachelor
Mil-Net: It seems that more and more gaming companies are utilizing the 1 rule book - multiple game setting type of system. Are more games on the way from Reaper that use this same engine? Matt: Pretty much all of them that involve tabletop miniatures based play. AICOM, Imperator, CAV, Warlord, and a few "one off" games we have planned. While reading this great interview on Mil-Net (which you can read HERE!), I noiced Matt make this reference to Imperator. I've searched the boards, I've searched the offical site, and I can find no reference to it. Does anyone know what Imperator is?
Errex
I'd say that it is a reference to GW's Epic game, or maybe even Titan Legions, in which the Imperator happens to be the biggest, toughest walking arsenal. Although, I could be wrong, mind you.
Ghost Rider
If I can remember waaaaay back when I believe Imperator is a Space combat game relating to the CAV universe
Leech
Yeah, Imperator is the working title for the planned space combat game just like AICOM is the current working title for the infantry skirmish game.
Moderator Froggy the Great Posted July 2, 2004 Moderator Share Posted July 2, 2004 I believe that Imperator was going to come before CAV, and then GW released Battlefleet Gothic. Rather than go up against that juggernaut, they switched plans to CAV, and then life happened, as life is wont to do, and Imperator was pushed to the back burner in favor of other projects. Any and all of this may be and probably is in some way incorrect, btw. Now that the R.A.G.E. system is official, it shouldn't be too hard to do, it just needs to be kicked up in priority. They may or may not do that, and while I'd love to see Imperator, I've got CAV and Warlord to play with.
abngi
I'd say that it is a reference to GW's Epic game, or maybe even Titan Legions GW used the word Imperator it for the same reasons Reaper used it: it sounds impressive, and the definition (Originally, under the Republic of Rome, it was the title given to an army commander after winning a great victory and was held only so long as he remained in command of troops). A reference to GW? Nope. Just a word in common, not a ripoff. Unlike the author of Beowulf, who blatantly stole from GW's Space Wolves when he wrote about his Norse-type leader-to-be defeating a great beast to unite his people. turtle
If Matt is Referencing Imperator in Official Interviews, does that mean it's cooking now? I'm inclined to agree with Frosch - If AiCOM and Imperator, and CAV ad Warlord are all aRage, then half the playtesting is already done. We know RAGE works, because Warlord works. Does this mean they jsut need to drop Imperator into RAGE? And AICOM! Finally, a line of Sci-Fi minis at Reaper Prices! (The 40K stuff is just too stylised for my Star Wars RPG, and the other ones cost so much!)
Moderator Froggy the Great Posted July 2, 2004 Moderator Share Posted July 2, 2004 I have heard nothing that suggests that Imperator is anywhere but the conceptual stage it has been in for the last bunch of years.
Erion
But think of the Events: Day 1: Play Imperator to get your fleets into position and set up the combat drops with advantages/disadvantages based on how well your fleets fared. Day 2: Play AICOM to secure specific on-world resources with Special Operations Teams for you major forces to use. Day 3: Incorporate The results of Day 1 and 2 games into CAV battles fought on large scales. It will be glorious!

Or even better - Day 1)Imperator game, your fleet jockeys for a drop window with the opFor. Day 2) Based on outcome of that, you get x000 points to drop attacking defenders contested regeion, CAV on CAV battle. Day 3) The results of previous Game determine point costs for a small strike team needed to take out Key installation on same planet, AICOM style! If you win, you need to take out the command HQ, if you lost previous CAV battle, you need to take out surgically the Defense Shelter, so that Day 4 you can CAV on CAV again, and try to take the Contested Region again! Days 2&3 can repeat under camapign rules until Imperator reinforcements arrive - Enabling both sides to Imperator battle again, then determine the reinforcements available for the CAV and AICOM games!!! I'm getting giddy just thinking about it.

Bill_Adcock
Dang. And here I thought you were talking about Pandinus imperator, the African Emperor Scorpion. Make lovely pets.

You searched everywhere except for where you read about it in the first place. We get no respect! Seriously though, our forums are archived back 3 years, so if there's ever been a serious discussion about Imperator, you should be able to find it there. Froy The Orc
Unfortunately I have my number one space game Silent Death, but that can be replaced.
