Question for April 17, 2019

Reptiles as pets?

Sure, if you like them and can be a responsible owner, and it doesn't fuel illegal trade in endangered species.

So cats are off your list as well.

Quite the opposite, I find them to be among the easiest to speak with. I just can't easily bridge the gap between the mammalian and reptile minds. I also have difficulty with rabbits, but that's because their body language cues are more difficult to read and they're much more concerned with social ladder rankings than cats are. The cat believes it rules by divine right, the rabbit tries to fit you in to a byzantine labyrinth of heirarchy that only it understands. So it's a question of direct argument vs constant miscommunication on both sides.

The lizard just occasionally blinks and I find myself with nothing to work with.

Question for April 17, 2019

Reptiles as pets?

Sure. Not for me nowadays, though.

Back in the day we had a reptile room in the band house. 10' red tailed boa and a couple monitors, a water and a nile. The boa didn't do a whole lot, I think he was pretty old (but still ate a lot of bunnies!). The water monitor was pretty laid back but the nile was an alpha predator. We had the 2 monitors in a big terrarium with a pond. Really cool releasing some small mice and watching them hunt. The water was more like a croc, he'd hang out in the pond and wait for a mouse to come near. The nile used to hunt anything moving.

I'd like to have a Eastern Fence Lizard, but honestly it would be more upkeep than what I like in a pet.

No thanks. Nothing against them it's just that I've never mastered the art of communicating with them and I like having creatures that I can argue with.

I argue with our cats

...with my computer

...with miniatures I'm painting

It's all about how badly you want a response.

Didn't really have one...

Unless you count 'wore it until you couldn't see the picture anymore', and that would have to be the dragon t-shirt I got for one of my birthdays.

My son is almost 20 and he's a kid*, so I'm going to go with my Black Sabbath concert T-shirt, since I was about that age when I went to that concert.

::D:

* At this point, so is every other 19 y.o.

When I was in middle school, I got a shirt that was a slightly colorized version of M. C. Escher's Wyvern woodcut.  (The gems were colored green.)  I wore that shirt until it developed entirely too many holes.

The earliest one I remember was a purple and blue tie-dye with the loony tunes tasmanian devil wearing sun glasses. I wore that thing till there was nothing left. That was in Junior high and high school.
