New Artis Opus Kickstarter

Another re-branded overpriced set I am guessing.  This is a dry brush set, hence the D. Interesting thing is it comes with a dampening pad claiming keeping a damp dry brush does a better job.

They also are being super shady on what the hair used is for some reason. Can check it in the comments.

I will admit, I did just buy a designated Drybrushing brush. It is an Army Painter brand one, and cost me ~$5-6 Canadian. More than a normal junker brush, but not a ton. It is very nice compared to my old junkers. I still wouldn't consider paying more than that for a drybrush. ~$20 on a brush for this purpose? ACK! Nope.

I thought I'd heard positive things about their general brushes from the first KS. No more positive than for other kolinsky brushes, but they held their own. This is hot on the heels of the second though. If that one isn't fulfilled yet, that's pretty poor form.

They won't mention the actual type of brush...  And there's speculation it's just a rebrand.  And when directly questioned, they give a passive answer that isn't an answer.

Hard nope from me, and that's before I even looked at the price.  I'd sooner buy Citadel drybrushes - even they will say what their brushes are made of!

I don't see any point to a fancy set of dry brushes in a box either.  Dry brushes are a dime a dozen (well a bit more than that) at any craft store.  Or a simple re-use of an old worn out brush.  I'm just not seeing any value here for such a large price.

I don't see why boar brushes wouldn't be good for drybrushing. Those R&C ones look pretty nice. Not sure I'd go out of my way for them. My specifically drybrushing one that I got (unknown bristles - might be able to look it up) was spur of the moment and on sale, heh.

I've used boar for drybrushing. I'll use it again, too.

Thing is, it's very stiff and the thin layers we use for miniatures painting are very fragile. I've seen boar bristle pull up dry paint on minis. What I use it for is terrain, where I'm using thicker layers of paint to begin with.

But these look much softer than the boar brushes I have used, so that may not be a problem with these brushes (even if they are boar).

But there are enough other flags on this project, and I really can't imagine a world where I value a brush specifically for drybrushing as highly as I do a high-quality Kolinsky Sable Round #1.

My obvious question is... How are those Rosemary & Co boar brushes for drybrushing?

I am gonna snag a few in a R&co order sometime soon. Will report

edit:

Rumor is they may be rebranded Rosemary&Co Badger hair SMOOSHING BRUSH

They look really nice. Prob gonna snag those instead of hog ones or in addition to.
