77158, Arrius, Skeletal Warrior and 77046, Bat Swarm

I'm pretty new to Bones and painting in general. After casually practicing on board game pieces and some of my brother-in-law's old fantasy Warhammer stuff for about a year, these were the first two bones I attempted. Pretty happy with them, though I've still got a ways to go. I tried to do a bit of a glow on the sword which went terribly, but I was able to work it into a weird looking kind of patina. The bats were...difficult. Not the wisest choice of mini on my part, but I'm pleased enough with the final product, given that it was a bit of a quick and dirty job. I'm at least pleased with how the tombstone and everything below it turned out. Anyway, hi! Happy to share these and C&C is very welcome. I'll be receiving my first real shipment of Bones next week when my Kickstarter order arrives, so hopefully I'll have more to share soon!

New to painting????  These look great. The patina on the sword is very cool.

 

The only thing I would tweak would be to add some matte coat to the cloak as it seems too shiny in the pictures compared to the rest. Almost like a wet blood soaked cloak.

New to painting minis; up until about a year ago I mostly did Gundams and Bob Ross. :-P 

 

Thank you! That's a good point, it does look kinda soggy. I'm trying to get over the fear of matte coat and coating in general. I still don't have many pieces I'm particularly proud of, so when I do one well enough that I want to coat it, I'm afraid that coating it will screw it up! Just gonna have to go for it. Now that it's warm enough to use my airbrush again I'll give it a shot.

As for not being happy with the tombstone.

Tombstones have this habit of being overgrown, so if you don't like a part, cover it in flock.

I think the bats turned out just fine. Lots of chaos and confusion as you would expect from a swarm of bats.

Thanks! No, the tombstone was one of the few parts of the bats I was happy with! I do need to work on some scenery and basing soon, that’s something I haven’t messed around with much.

Welcome, these look good and keep them coming - nice patina to the sword in particular. If you want to add more to figures, I suggest working on highlights - its my current focus area - contrast really adds to a paint job

I think they are especially good. I like the richness of the dark reds and bone, and the strong, dark definition all around.
