I like the dappling on the horses. Bonus for adding red-heads.

Thank you!

The dappling was something new I tried out.

As for the redheads, it's historically correct!

Next goal will be extended shading and highlighting of the figures.

Yes,

I do use shadows and highlights, but often too subtle for the pics.

It might look good enough in real life, but it doesn't always "pop".

Yes, indeed. but I also mean lining and so. I think, you increase the effect of your figures using those methods.

I don't like lining.

I have seen it and it does look good on many minis.

But I feel like it isn't realistic.

I might have overdone it maybe.

I used to have that opinion as well, until Anne (The Anne from Reaper!!!) posted in one of my show-offs that I could take my painting to the next level if I started lining.  And it really did.

Great job, and don't be afraid to take the highlights/shading to more contrast.  If you can't see it at arms length, it's too subtle.

Thanks!

Maybe I overdid the lining the first time I tried.

I'm always a bit confused about which colour one uses for lining.

Should it always be a brown or black? Or do you use a complementary colour or a contrasting colour then?

I would like to try it.

It's been a while since I've painted a Reaper miniature, so I thought I would post my latest creation here.

I had a lot of fun painting this mini - blue is one of my favorite colors to blend with, and I enjoy painting fun hair, like her braid in the back.  TMM was used on the metal.

Finished off 9 cavalry figures. They are all kitbashed from the Frostgrave female soldiers and wizards. They have been combined either with Gripping Beast Arab cavalry or with Perry Miniatures late medieval light cavalry or French dragoons. Some of the arms (in particular spear arms) are from the Oathmark elves.

The Frostgrave minis have narrower waists and go well with Perry miniatures and with the gripping beast kit. The Perry napoleonic kit has a lot of blankets and furs on the horses, and the legs are separate to the torsos and have high boots.

I was scared of painting horses but just went for ultra simple coloured undercoats and washes.

I need one more lancer to have a unit of 10. May go for a bloke for balance, and to have someone who can tackle spiders and open jars.

I realised that I had so many Frostgrave soldiers painted up that i had quite a big army for games like Saga, Warlords of Erehwon, Or even Kings of War. Am going to have a war machine with Frostgrave soldier crew, and these lancers /light cavalry.

These are the Frostgrave females, mainly, mixed with the legs and horses from Gripping Beast's Arab heavy cavalry. I cut the FG minis in half with a razor saw at the belt line and they fit  the bodies perfectly. There is a Victrix cloak in there and the armoured rider has Oathmark elf arms, but essentially everything else (including the bits and pieces of luggage stuck to the horses) is from the Frostgrave females sprue.

I will probably do a black wash on the riders (not the horses) and a couple of highlights.

I need to do a snow effect base and then make up 5 more. The idea is to have a 50/50 male female unit but keep the light armour/wrapped up look.
