Let's see if I can finish one of these for a change...  Of course I neglected to take good pictures of the early steps...

Mossbeard assembled, "primed" with Sepia Liner, which after a year was kinda gloopy...  Thinned with a little airbrush thinner, it went on fine though and gave really good coverage and gave the figure a nice brown on top of the grey bones.  The green then got an overbrush with Jungle Mist and then a wash of Vallejo green wash.  The brown got a wash of Vallejo dark Grey Wash and some spots with Vallejo Rush Wash.  I've since started with a over/dry-brush of Wolf Grey over the wood.  Torso, head and one arm done.  He's a big one!

Not a ton of progress, but the grey has been finished on all the brown surfaces.  Planning a much lighter and targeted pass with a paler grey on the higher surfaces and around the face.  Moss areas got some light hits of yellow here and there.  B36544E1-0409-490E-BB67-0DDF573B21E0.thumb.jpeg.bc40d6e18e46ac7d1ce243f46ad0b0bf.jpeg

all the green areas areas will get a very light dry brush with an off-white then a thin wash of green, likely two tones, the vines-looking parts will get some darker greens and browns and then we’ll see.  Toying with trying to do glowing eyes...  we’ll see...

Also toying with picking up one of the clear fairies to have her flying out of the larger empty stump on his shoulder...  :upside:

Still behind you on this one. I think I'm going to go with a darker green for the moss, but perhaps with some patches of different colors and maybe some "flowers". I'm starting to think that this looks more like a wood golem than a big ent, so I've been thinking about putting a "pilot" in that top hollow stump. Fantasy mecha FTW!

I love that idea!  Looking forward to seeing how you pull it off.

Did a first coat on the “vines”, some with a leather brown, others with an olive green.

The mushrooms on his one leg got a coat of the leather brown as well.

Some of the deeper or lower areas of moss got a light touch with the olive green and the bark got a light dry brush of a white/ochre mix around the face and on the higher peaks and transition points.

Still to come: an overall very light wash of a brown or grey, some highlights on the vines and then his face needs something...  more transition on the beard and maybe glowing eyes.

Thanks for looking.

Been working on these guys as a test for the squad color scheme. Trying some layering on the white, it's working out well so far.
They're 1:48 scale, same as Star Wars Legion, and I've rebased them onto the same 27mm bases that Legion uses. Mostly because the standard D1947 bases are like 35mm. Way huge.

Hi there all, I've decided to dive into the deep end with finally trying the scary world of OSL. 😄

Feel I've lost the plot on this ... so any advice on how to proceed with this would be greatly appreciated! (Having fun, though, despite not knowing what the hell I'm doing. 😁)

I'm including a "top down" view, which is where I'm most confuddled. That dark line down his arm which represents the shadow from the staff which sits between the source of light ... it just doesn't look right to me.  🤔

So, I'm all ears for suggestions on improvements!

Not sure what to do with those bodies in webs on the slot. Need to go back and look at the pics to see if I should cut them or see if I have a spare slotta base to stand them up.

      Hello

This is my first post really on forums.  I normally post on Facebook. My wife and I paint models alot of the time side by side. Whilst I prep our quarterly contest entry we worked on these Storm Giants...  About half way done.

Back after a long-ish hiatus. I had to take a break from painting earlier this year because of some eye issues. No that I can see right again, I wanted to take a simple-ish mini to completion. I used the RCL limited palette theme for July.

While the paint job on these maggots can be better, it's gratifying to be back to doing something I enjoy immensely.
