Games and gaming

Since ReaperCon is mostly a long-distance-travel con, miniatures games are significantly harder to manage (unless you're local). I've thought about bringing Frostgrave stuff, but even limited terrain is pretty bulky -- and that's with driving. If I were flying, it would be much worse.

Just now you remind me that I won a copy of the old Battle Masters game I found in a thrift shop. The terrain is a huge easy to carry foldable vinyl map. It's simple and can be played in under an hour.

I won't bring it this year, because all of the minis have a layer of gummy dust on them, and they could really use a fresh coat of paint instead of the basic bland early 90s tabletop level it currently has, and most of the stickers are half peeled off. There are dozens of miniatures, so it can be a long term project. Also unsure if I have all of the rules.

What surprised me the most when I bought it, was these were true 25mm scale, noticeably smaller than the heroic 28mm scale we're used too these days.

Split the difference and bring the original Star Wars  Monopoly.  The tokens are the old Grenadier miniatures.

I... I think I own a copy of it. I bought it at bargain price because it was missing a piece or two, but otherwise, it had the character miniatures. Never thought of looking at who made them.

I could bring it, but Monopoly can take a very long time to play, and it destroys friendships.

I'll grab a copy of Zombicide (gloriously unpainted) and will see what other mini-centric games will travel well.  We have a few on the shelf, but I don't know most of them well enough to teach a group.

Bringing an unpainted copy of a miniatures game to a convention of painters....

Genius!  that's what it is, pure genius!  Paint while you play!

I used to avoid the game because it takes so long, but there is a rule in there I had never noticed that speeds the game up somewhat. Every time a person lands on an unowned property and doesn't buy it, the bank has to auction it to the highest bidder. I have played for decades and never knew that but it makes a difference in how long a game can take

I am afraid that for actual gaming, I am going to have to wing it to some extent. My health has been sort of dicey and I don't want to sign up for something I cant play.  I also seem to have a problem that since I bought all my families tickets, it will only allow me to select 1 thing per timeslot, even if its for another person.  On top of that I am terrible with lists and organization when it comes to time I consider fun.  Some people like organized vacations, I am not one of them.

By all means, if you see me hanging around and have space to play at a game, please ask.

I like the games that are a little off the main stream and I figured here's as good a place to ask as any...  does anyone else out there play Numenera?  I can occasionally get my group to play but we eventually fall back to fantasy or urban fantasy.  None of them are much into scify and I wondered if others play: especially since Reaper offered minis for the game

I played a demo of it at PAX a couple years ago, liked it a great deal, bought the book, and haven't done anything with it since. Character creation was delightful and gameplay was both straightforward and enjoyable. I'd love to play in a game sometime, but I'm not sure if I'll have time at ReaperCon this year.

I would love to play but I don't have a regular gaming group right now and the ones I do play with are pretty much wanting to stick with the more mainstream stuff like D&D or maybe pathfinder...

I love Numenera. It may be my favorite system. I only hesitated offering to run because my book is somewhere in storage and is not likely to be found in a reasonable time frame. But if people want to play, I do have PDFs and really can just sit down and wing an adventure. And would love doing so. I am not as familiar with Discovery and Destiny, but I own the PDFs and could read up before con.

I'll be bringing a few games to run "after hours" outside of the official RC 2019 Dreadmere events.

Definitely want to bring Timewatch and Ashen Stars, would be a nice breather from all the high fantasy I'm running this year.

I would be willing to bring my kit along for Numenara if people are willing to play.  I tried one a few years ago and got no takers so I am a little leery in offering again. (So I have a few social issues, this is one group where I don't have to worry about showing that.)  I had set up an adventure to run and ran a couple of playtest sessions with my home group.  I would be willing to bring it and some copies of the players guide (its a free demo) for people to play with.  I am also quite willing to play.
