Question June 19th.

What are your favorite miniature brands and why these?

( do not post commercial links! Just name the company)

...you gave me a headache. There are just too many to list AND a lot of them are no longer in business.

Sorry Al!

Didn't mean to give you a headache, you're excused!

I also listed some OOP companies.

I think everyone's hit my favorite miniature brands.

In terms of number of unique sculpts, most of my collection is either Reaper Miniatures or Ral Partha/Iron Wind Metals.  Reaper has a wide variety of well-sculpted miniatures.  Most of my Ral Partha/Iron Wind Metals collection is BattleTech minis, although I have some fantasy and Shadowrun minis as well.  (I should probably get more Shadowrun minis.)  Third place either goes to Dark Sword Miniatures or Bad Squiddo Games (I still haven't inventoried the last Bad Squiddo KS that fulfilled), both of which have a variety of miniatures.  (Dark Sword probably has better sculpts overall, and definitely more variety, but Bad Squiddo's minis are still very good.)

Well for the last several years the companies getting most of my money are,

Reaper for the Bones and paints

NorthStar for multipart plastic goodness and some interesting metals

Warlord Games probably the largest selection of historical minis of all eras

Fireforge Games more historicals

Reaper, obvo. Great depth of catalog, variety, and sculptors.
HF, because Kev.
Dark Sword, Tom Meier is legend.

Kingdom Death, I just dig the aesthetic. Too bad they're difficult to collect now that the game got popular.

Thunderbolt Mountain, I told you Tom is legend, people. Tons of great elves in his own line.

RBG, Trebeard incarnate. I wish he'd branch out a bit more, but what he does, he does best.

Corvus Corax, just cool af.

Imbrian Arts, I wish Jody could get his act together, he's so unique and phenomenal.

Black Sun, epic.
Nocturna, FER, so many good outlets now.
Honorable mention for Andy's Low Life stuff, where you can find post-apoc twinkie warriors or flaming hotdog gremlins (that can be loaded into a hammer wielded by the twinkie dudes)?

Like many of my previous answers, I don't have clear favourites. And with the abundance of Kickstarter minis, any of them can be a solid go to for different reasons.

For example, Reaper and Wizkids are easily ranked high for the cost advantage of the Bones and plastic miniature lines. For the same reason, GW ranks low because of their high prices.

I like my Reaper minis; my Wizkids; my Darksword; my Bombshell; my Midlam; my Stonehaven; my Galladoria (mimics); my Dunkledorf (King Games); my Bruegelburg (Lead Adventure); my Talon (CAV); my Oathsworn (Heroines in sensible shoes); my Antediluvian medieval demons; my Johnny Lauck cat folk +dungeon sceney; my Zenitminiatures Kensei armies; my old Ral Partha/Iron Wind and RAFM miniatures; etc. Even Fat Dragon is producing nice 3D stuff these days.

I DO NOT HAVE A PROBLEM!

[Looks at list again] Maybe a small one... in 28mm scale. :poke:

Hooboy. Most of my favorites have already been named.. and I'm seeing a lot of new ones. But, what the hey; have a list.

Reaper makes my list; my first minis were Reaper. ^^;

Oathsworn; love my girls in sensible shoes - and my random adorbs critters.

Nocturna makes some beautiful things. Remains to be seen if those turn up on the tables, or if I hoard them.

Paymaster Games definitely needs to be mentioned; and encouraged. Love me some (local!) mythic monsters.

Really, after that, anybody who has awesome dragons should be on the list.

Reaper - good variety of styles and themes with consistent quality.

Dark Sword - Amazing non-'heroic scale' sculpts.

Creature Caster - Big, relatively easy to assemble, daemons/daemonettes. I didn't take part in the kickstarter, but I am impressed by what they have produced for their store.

Victoria Miniatures - not-Warhammer 40k guardsman mini's at a good price. Fun to assemble with a lot of options for bits. Also, tanks, and the BFG from Bones KS...2?

Bombshell - tough ladies and cute critters. Regrettably, I have not made many purchases from them other than the first KS, but I do have the 75mm Maelee and Barbarian on the way.

Stonehaven (!!) - Almost forgot them! I really love the sculpts. I haven't backed all of their kickstarters but most of them. Their retail prices are... high, so I haven't purchased any outside of Kickstarter.

Honorable Mentions

Scale 75 - Love the paints, I have bought all three 'Metal N' Alchemy' sets. I like the mini's I have seen, but haven't purchased any yet.

Redbox Games - Have yet to dive in. I love Tre Manor's sculpts though.

Secret Weapon Miniatures - I've been looking more and more into weathering and basing, they have my eye.

Did anyone mention the D&D/chainmail minis yet?

I don't think so.

But they had good stuff indeed!

Reaper - by volume it's not even close.  Outside of the KSers though I just order metal.

A few more by alphabetic order and I'm sure there are some I'm forgetting.

Ares Mythologic - Mix of larger scale historical & fantasy

Ax Faction - Sad they closed shop.

Big Child Creative - If you need an orc pirate...

Blacksmith Miniatures - Fairies, goblins, and interesting creatures.

Bombshell - I have most of what I like, but there are some nice sculpts covering all eras.

Corvus Belli - Pretty much my only sci-fi mini interest.

Dark Sword - Minis from the art I saw when I first started painting.

Hasslefree - A lot of nice scuplts and good selection.

Kimera - Top quality studio painting to sell the figures.

Mierce - Mainly for the interesting monsters.

Nocturna - Nice mix of larger fantasy and historical

Pegaso - Large selection of 54mm+ figures

Red Box Games - Well done Tre

Scale 75 - I like their paint...

Reaper (who'd have guessed that?)

Privateer Press: I like the idea of playing Warmachine, even if I have no one to play with.

Citadel/GW:  Way overpriced and not truly worth the money....but I am so obsessed with the Horus Heresy novel series. I have a dream of having a display shelf of 18 beautifully painted Primarch minis.

Kingdom Death - I love these figures. The whole aesthetic of the company is everything that I love in art - A little anime, a little horror, mixed in with a lot of provocative imagery, death, and scantily clad hot ladies. It's an obsession at this point and I'm not sorry.

Ouroboros Miniatures - Their stuff can be a little quirky and niche now and then but every line is a passion project and the figures and busts are always of beautiful quality and serious attention to detail. They're also an absolute pleasure to deal with.

Nocturna Models - They make a xenomorph, that alone is worth loving a company but also all of their stuff is gorgeous and high quality. I don't just recommend their beautiful figures, I also very strongly recommend their Fantasy-Pro Vallejo paint sets. (FYI I can't currently comment whether their new N-Paint line that is on kickstarter right now will be the same quality only because I haven't personally used them, but they look great to me and I'm pledging for them.)

Kimera Models / Pegaso Models - If you didn't know, Kimera and Pegaso are run by the same people. They make gorgeous, high quality figures and they're really great, passionate and giving people who have a real love of the hobby and art. Their Kimera Kolors paints are hard to get at the moment, but they're absolutely worth the hype. They haven't left my desk since I got them and as soon as their supply has caught up to demand, I'm going to order a second set.
