Question June 20th.

What games do you play with your minis?

And if you can't or don't game, what do you do with them?

I do not game ( only on PC)

My figures are for display.

I also create armies for fun and I tell stories/make up a background for them ( this leads to projects like the Lost World that will spin out of control within a few days)

And I like to give some away.

Sometimes I sell some of them.

Basically the fun of painting/modelling and telling stories is my main drive.

And eventhough I don't game, I usually base them all so they could be played with.

When my armies grown bigger, I like to take group pics every now and then.

The truth is of course that I'm creating a huge army that will be buried with me in my tomb so they can protect me in the afterlife

We use the minis I paint for D&D.

Also, I love them, so I don't need a reason to collect them. Though, I do need to paint them. They'd be happier that way.

You say this in jest, but it's actually an amazing idea. Entombed with all your minis guarding you through eternity.

You should use blue tack to stick them to their shelves though, so your tomb doesn't end up a mess like Tut's.

I play D&D (5th Ed at present) but we usually have a few custom campain things going, I’ll be co-DMing in a while and the other DM has plans for mutations creeping in to the real world (can’t remember which gaming system we’re adapting off the top of my head) but I’ll probably be looking for an anthropomorphised platypus at some point.

My daughter on the other hand, is completely taken with the “Mushroom Bender”  that was in the dark reach expansion and the fly girls (77608) , because of course they are fly girls. There is an extremely detailed plot line about this Mushroom Bender and her secret identity and some of the other bones mini’s that make it into her pretend game and keeps her happy and occupied while I get some painting time in.

Right now, it's mostly D&D. I'm running Eberron in 3.5E, and I'm playing in a 5E game.

I also have a few armies for Warmahordes, but I haven't actually played that in a couple years. I'd like to pick it up again sometime, but...life is hard?

I have also been known, from time to time, to play similar games as those mentioned by Buglips.

Western : Aces & Eights

Fantasy: Pathfinder & Runequest  (Historically Gurps, D&D and Earthdawn)

Modern: Call of Cthulhu, Bureau 13 (Millennium's End, GURPS)

SF: Starfinder, Morrow Project, shadowrun (Traveler, GURPS, Twilight 2000, Incursion)

Also miniature games with home rules for zombies, western and gangsters, just not all at once.

These are the most prominent games.  There have been others that we have played for varying lengths of time.  We will play until we get to a ending place or we tire of the setting.  Then we will pick up a new game or go back to an old one.

June 19th - Fav companies

Kingdom Death - I really love their creepy monsters  - I like the solo boardgame as well.

Reaper - my goto company

Darksword - for some lovely sculpts - although I have yet to paint any.

June 20th - What do you do with minis?

the kingdom death minis have gotten alot of playing time.

Dragons with original bases,  get played with by mini-spawn.

- they are also responsible for collecting and hoarding any kids jewelry left lying around the house.

- Dragons with elaborate basing get left in a small display cabinet.

I run a kids D&d game once a month, it makes extensive use of painted minis.

the D&D game I play in doesn't use minis, but I still paint and bring my PC.

I like @buglips*the*goblin explanation.

I very, very rarely get to run a game of LL, and then I make great use of my vast horde of unpainted tiny peoples. Otherwise I just paint them for the fun of it, and I usually give them away when I'm finished.

I also construct elaborate backstories in my head for them while I paint them.

@Kuroneko sorry to hear about the weasels. I wish you luck at getting the corralled up. Tricksy little beasties.

Right now, mostly Frostgrave and Pathfinder.

But in the spirit of "Not abandoned, just on hiatus":

  • DBA
  • DBM
  • Fantasy Rules!
  • Age of Reason
  • Napoleon's Battles
  • Into the Sunset
  • Spearhead
  • Command Decision
  • Rangers of Shadowdeep
  • WFG's Frontline
  • Full Thrust
  • Sky Galleons of Mars
  • Blue Max
  • Mustangs & Messerschmitts/Fighter Pilot
  • Any of several Age of Sail naval games
  • Fletcher Pratt's Naval Wargame
  • ...

Museum putty. Not only does it hold better, but the word "museum" is in the title. Duh!

While I don't actively play right now, I suspect I'd wind up playing the following...

Age of Sigmar

CAV

Dropzone Commander

Infinity

Kill Team

Mordheim

Necromunda

Warhammer 40k

Warmahordes

Frostgrave is also something consider, same as some of the others.  I'm planning on building tables and terrain for them, so that counts, right?

I play (rarely) 40K so those minis get used.  However, most of my minis, GW and otherwise, are more for display or the joy of building/painting them.  I really have no interest in selling anything I've produced so they are for me to keep.  I have hundreds (coughthousandscough) of points worth of Skaven and none of my friends play AoS, most of my Reaper stuff has been for D&D but the ones I paint are usually for the shelf, not the table.  I have painted some zombicide abominations, again this was more for fun, but these do get used when we play.

Far too rarely some of my Kingdom Death minis get used in games of Kingdom Death: Monster.

Mostly they stand in my display cabinet wondering why many of them are only partially painted.
