You've got some nicely painted stuff there, @Darsc Zacal.

How did you make the cloak on that druid  fellow in the first 2 pictures?

No Tintin or Asterix either.

Thanks.

Years ago GW came out with a plastic model tree set. The “leaves” came in groups of different sizes and shapes. I took one of the smaller pieces, trimmed it down, and used a heat gun to soften it enough so I could reshape it around the mini as a cloak.

GW recently released a new set of trees that are very reminiscent of that original set.

The pics below aren’t mine. They’re images I found online.

That's kinda what I thought it was. I never had those trees, but it looked familiar for some reason. My (at the time) FLGS had them; I guess I remember it from there.

Cool idea, if I ever mange to lay hands on some of those, consider it  'borrowed'.

Well, obviously ... Real Men Wear Pink!

Everyone knows this. Where have you been?

Actually that shade of pink was called Polish Crimson. Prissy Victorians decided it was a feminine color.

I searched the webz for “cartoony painting style”. That resulted in finding this:

Odd, there's no classic Disney styles in there.

I only had time to get to about #20. << shrug >>

WEEKEND QUESTION June 21th - June 23th

When painting minis do you like the realistic or the cartoony approach?

Show ( some) of your work.

BONUS: Paint something in the opposite style and show us ( older work acceptable also if you can't make it)

Considering I always look for images of real things as reference, I tend towards a more realistic style.  Though certainly not hyper realistic. But I have done more cartoonish as well, even though I always use those real references.  I think in the end, because they are fantasy figures, it really tends to be a mix of the approaches.

Like these two I'd consider more realistic -

While these two are more cartoonish -

In the end, which way I go depends on the style of the model itself that determines which way I lean.

I have several pink clothes, it's a great color. I even have a Jess Rich art t-shirt in pink! My pink dress shirt is one of my favorites, I'm hoping to get a full pink suit at some point. The red doesn't attract enough comments :D

The bonus is that it quickly lets you see who is closed-minded. I love that.

I paint how I paint.  I'm sure it's not historically accurate but... who cares?  I'm having fun, and that's the important part.

Since @Glitterwolf wants us to show some of our work, these were the last three minis I completed:

Mainly I'm just trying to get only as much paint on a mini to make it decently acceptable for the tabletop. I like to think I'm painting as realistically as my capabilities allow. But if I'm going to be honest, I don't spend much time on shading, lighting effects, or details and that gives a lot of my stuff a more cartoon like quality.

That being said, I got a bunch of those Killer Bunnies from a recent kickstarter and have been painting them to look like simple cartoon-ish characters. On their own none of them are much to look at. But they're starting to come together as a fun little group. Here's the most recent example.

Question June 24th

Do you prefer gigantic/huge monster minis or would you rather have them fit a 40mm / 50mm base?
