Buglips and SisterMary present ... German Infantry

As some of you know, @buglips*the*goblin and I paint some German Infantry of WWII for Warlord Games tabletop game Bolt Action - or another similar set of rules. You can find our WIP thread ->here<-

 

But though the key to success is hard work, all good projects some when end somewhere. To celebrate this, we decided to set up a Show Off thread. So ... enjoy what we come up with until all of our Germans are painted ... (which will be in ten years or so)

 

First off - the first 5 men of my winter unit.

Very nice work!  You took a lot more pictures than I did, but my ancient dinosaur phone doesn't really work that well as a camera.  But!  I do actually have two pictures of my finished German Grenadiers, so those will have to suffice.  At some point I'll have to go back and fill out my part of our WIP thread to show how I got here.  

 

But anyway, here are my finished grenadiers as well!  (excepting terrain on the base, I'll do them when I finish the US airborne from the same box)

I've got a whole platoon in a box still to go.  And if Frontline Games brings Bolt Action product to Reapercon again, I might come home with enough germans to last me for years.

Beautiful job, both of you. Have you read Martin Caidin's book "The Tigers are Burning"? about the battle of Kursk.

Yes I will, but not as part of this thread. I will combine that with a little tutorial on how to do weathering on a vehicle.

I'm always interested.

Weathering can also be used for scifi/ fantasy vehicles so I think it would be useful to many people here.

I know we had a Stug III and a Panther in common, but I only have the Panther unfinished and I'm not sure if Sistermary's Panther is already done.

 

For separate, individual projects, I have a Sherman V, a Cromwell, a Chi-Ha, a Ho-Ro, an M8 Greyhound, and an sdkfz234/2 Puma left to do.

Just curious. Do you have a reference for using that camo pattern on pants? I have never seen that one used on pants before.

Yes. I had a look on the internet and found that illustrations of troops using winter camo also involve those trousers.

 

 

Then I found this photograph:

 

 

So I said: seems legit. And I did it. Breaks up the scheme of white and grey trousers a bit.

Looks fine to me. I have just never seen it, certainly doesn’t mean it wasn’t done.

@SisterMaryNapalm Tigers are burning, is a very good read. He lays out the events leading up and then his explanations and descriptions are excellent.
