Yup,  it just didnt dawn on me until I read goblinoid in their type description, then it finally clicked.

I'll just use existing hobgoblin minis, easier & cheaper.

The naiads are mine, in my Forces of Nature army. ::):

We already have them, so we use them.

BUT because we have been building and arming them for RPGs, I will need more for my army, or explain that they are really armed with only some of the array they are displaying.

Nets are a PITA! In Pathfinder. One used his net to entangle Jon, then others started thumping him.

We don't have a tank, so once he lost his Dex bonus they were able to really whale on him.

And it was all a misunderstanding, Jon thought they were allies of the Sauhigan. The snake people had them there to try for an alliance AGAINST the Sauhigan, but that had already fallen through.

Rise, thread, rise!!!!

So with me running Ghost of Saltmarsh (GoS) again at my flgs, I figured I'd rez this thread. As I've mentioned in other posts, we are at Danger at Dunwater, but I'll just be using tokens or bases with numbers attached to them. With the shear number of creatures inside the lizardfolk caves, I didn't fell like rounding up the minis & transporting them to & from. I think I'll do up the encounter with Thousand Teeth (the large size gator) as my players have killed off some lizardfolk already. TT will be a redemption mission for the PCs.

Even thou they went the sea route & I used the sahaugin encounter (which was a fun encounter btw), I'm also gonna add in the bullywug encounter as a redemption mission as well. I was able to find a appropriate bullywug ruler stl. Speaking of stls, this thread started back before I got a 3d resin printer, so that definitely opens up more possibilities of minis, starting with Salvage Operation.

I'll try & go back & do updates to the miniature selection thanks to a broader selection of minis now for this game.

Ok, revised this one as it's the one I'm gonna start up this Weds @the FLGS. With the advent of resin printing & actually having a resin printer at home, my options are allot more open. I think this adventure will see the return of me using minis again on the table. We shall see.

Salvage Operation

Part 3 of Ghost of Saltmarsh campaign

Again, spoilers for those that are gonna play this one as players, bla bla bla (come on people by now you should know this!!! )

Of course, if you want to really want to jazz up your encounter there are ships made for 28mm combat. Two well known are Reaper's Sophie's Revenge & Wizkids Falling Star (unpainted & painted). There are also 3d printed options as well. There are non-3d options as well, as various companies do make ship maps (Heroic Maps is a good one) or just take your pen & draw your ship out!

If your utilizing the encounter before the party gets to the ship for the Sahuagin, definitely go with the Bones Tiik for this one as it's 18  (16 regular sahaugin, a baron (the 4 armed one) & a priestess). I guess for the priestess you could use the Champion or get a prepainted one. Unfortunately, the Sea Devil line up from Pathfinder is out of size as their "baron" is just a regular sahuagin & is medium size. Nolzur's Unpainted line from Wizkids has a couple sculpts as well. Upcoming is a "Band Pack" consisting of 6 or 7 prepainted miniatures. In this there is a Baron & Priestess miniature, along with regular sahuagin minis. As far as 3d options, there are tons of options as well from free to paid. They are under various names associated with sharks & such.

If you'd like to mini the dwarf captain, Wolgar Windrunner, there is this guy from Reaper:

3241. I still like this guy, but if you want a no gun option, this guy (also from Reaper works too & one of my favorite sculpts) 50319 He has a gun (pistol) but it's not as noticeable as 3241.

& there is a cook in both Bones & DHL (metal) . Thou only the Bones (77133) version has a gun, the metal(3626) one has a dead bird.

There is 30 dwarves aboard the friendly ship, so best to either get a small amount of dwarf minis or use paper minis. I like dwarves but I don't like them that much! To be honest 30 minis & even paper or bases with numbers on them is a bit much for a battle map. My suggestion for these would be just describe these guys in the background. As they are commoners they aren't gonna stand up even to a regular sahuagin. I'd say after a couple rounds of combat 1d6 or even 1d8 dwarves die in the battle.

Row boat, various 3d prints + Reaper does have a row boat in it's offerings. The Bones Black is nice, but may not hold entire party + the 2 dwarf pilots & possiblity of the orc druid later. The new City of Brinewind box set has a excellent boat.

Emperor of the Waves (ship rooms)

#2 Altar to Lloth

(All 3 of these options have stl options)

Giant Spider: I've using Phase Spiders for my Large size spiders. Nolzur's or Deep Cuts now has a giant spider in their Unpainted line up. There are spiders in Reaper & prepainted that'll work too.

Ettercap: There is  one in both Pathfinder Battles & D&D prepainted lines. Reaper has one too.

Swarm of spiders: Reaper has em as do the prepainted line ups.

#3 Navigator's Room

See #2 for these, same creatures, just different amounts.

#5 Spider Nest

(each of these have stl options)

Ettercap (see #2)

Giant Wolf Spider: Medium size spider. Nolzur's makes a 3 pack!

Swarm of spiders (x6 yah Bones is your friend here!)

#6 Food Storage

Maw Demons: 1) the old metal line up of D&D 3.0 minis & in prepainted form. There is a 3d printed on cults3d & for free on myminifactory as well. Your gonna need 4 of them.

#7 Krell's Cabin

(the main bad guy, but he's not here!)

#10 Unholy Shrine

Krell Grohlg, half-orc druid: Reaper has a 1/2orc druid: 2980 (thou you'll have to remove the bird, kinda odd with him worshipping Lloth & spiders,  but you can use these as well Surkar (3043) Ombar (14079). All 3 are "orky" enough & are wielding a staff. I will be using Pathfinder Deep Cuts half-orc druid for this guy.

Giant Spider: (see above)

Roil (Phase Spider), pet: See Giant Spider(#2) or there is an actual Phase spider, in prepainted or Nolzur's lineup.

#12: Cargo Hold

Ghast: Various ghoul/ghast minis are out there. Easy to find.

Death of the Emperor

Elder Octopus: Be Creative, make your own!! Reaper's Kraken miniature is also a great stand-in!! This is really more of a story element, as the octopus is  bigger then the ship it's destroying. If you really wanna make it as a visible aspect on the map. String or rope showing the tentacles reaching into the rooms to rip & tear the ship apart are a great option to use.

& that's it for the all at sea adventure! Until next time!

Up next:

Ok, Isle of the Abbey list:

Again, spoilers for those that are gonna play this one as players, bla bla bla (come on people by now you should know this!!! )

The Skull Dunes

Wave 1

skeletons

Easily obtained by various miniatures in a variety of materials

Wave 2

skeletal swarm

skeletal juggernaut

I'm going to use Reaper's Bone Fiend for these. I'm just putting 2 minis onto a large base. I've thought about Unpainted Bone Golem as well, since its a large size creature to start with.

skeleton

Again, see Wave 1.

The Ruined Cellar

2. Common Area

Ogmund

He is a gladiator in stats with a spear, but I guess any male human martial miniature would work.

acolyte

cultist

Reaper & prepainted & stl options are readily available for these mooks.

5. Barracks

veteran

Melee looking humans, easily obtainable

6. Meditation Room

acolyte

(do these guys really even need miniatures?)

7. Ozymandias’s Quarters

Ozymandias

veteran

Ozy here is the main dude for the priests, so I needs a special miniature, I was thinkin one of these guys would work perfectly:

Reaper  DHL: SKU: 02950

Veteran, again, any melee fighter type.

8. Bayleaf’s Quarters

Bayleaf

veteran

Bayleaf is well, a spice, but for this purpose, he is a elf bard. Since the adventure lacks female antagonists, I'm changing this one to female. I have both Reaper & Nolzur's elf bard minis, so I'll pick whatever I find first. Again, Veteran, melee fighter.

9. Odium’s Quarters

Odium

This person is a cult fanatic, ie spellcasting cult member. Reaper's various cultists work well here. Pick your favorite.

The Winding Way

11. Entrance Guardroom

minotaur skeletons

Reaper Bones/DHL & prepainted (2 options)

specter

I'm gonna use the Shadow mini from the Bones lineup for this one.

Bodak

prepainted, Nolzur's & Rocketpig Games (stl)

12. Hallway Guardroom

gre zombie

prepainted, Nolzur's & stl. I'll be using the Nolzur's.

ghast

various mfc for this one, just look for ghouls (or ghasts)

bodak

See above.

living crystal minotaur

I'm sure this some sorta "statue of minotaur" out there, but I'm just gonna use a unpainted Bones mini for this one.

13. False Treasure Room

vampiric jade statue

As I stated elsewhere, I'm gonna use a vampire model & paint is green (maybe) & stick it on the Living Statue (Bones Black) base.

14. Treasure Room

living iron statue

There are 2 of them & while the description is kinda odd, this mini is perfect for these as you get two of them in the pack.

Stone: SKU: 44127

Next up: Final Enemy! (can you say sahaugin minis a plenty?)

Don't know which KS you backed, so I'm just throwing numbers out:

The Greek Odessy expansion has #511 Argonaut, with a sword.  One of the previous KS had a female gladiator with sword, #77699. She's in full armor, not obviously female.

Running the game up at the FLGS each week, I've cut back on scenery pieces. Also lately, I feel like having things on the grid other then PCs & creatures, clutter up the board & make it hard to see things + depending if the AL game goes off that week, we are stuck at a different table, which is just one of those long plastic foldable banquet tables.

Nice call on the gladiator, I went with one of the bald thugs carrying a greatsword instead. I'll drop his AC (14 vs 16), but he's gonna hit like a Mack truck. He's dangerous & hopefully the players understand that since the encounter calls for the other occupied rooms to come out & see what's going on. Potential for a PC killed off if they understand their character's abilities. Pretty sure none of them have a Silence spell in their arsenal. :poke:

I changed Bayleaf to a female tiefling bard using Fillyjink or whatever name was from last month's free BUSA figure. I had it out after my last order. figure it was made for the adventure. I also added one of the cultists & a specter be female. Subtle changes but enough for me.

Well, I thought I could find anther Skeletal Swarm (thought I had it in metal), no go there + I couldn't find my Bone Golem from Pathfinder Deep Cuts, so actually picked up a figure off myminifactory - Rocket Pig's October sale & picked up a Bone Golem for the Juggernaut. First time I've fired up the mini4k since early August. Hopefully it prints with no problems, as I probably won't have time to print anther tomorrow before the game.

It is at this point that my group went off the rails, winding up in the sea elf prince's city which had been corrupted by the Sahuagin.  it got weird and then the group pretty much collapsed

sad but such is life

That sucks, I'm looking forward to see how they fare in Final Enemy & beyond. Plus hey, I finally will get to run a Slaadi. All these years & that is one creature I've never ran as a encounter.

I ran something else in place of the Abbey - I didn't much like it when it was in Dungeon magazine, and that really had not changed.

Sea based adventures are not something that I have a shortage of....

I also skipped The Styes - but that is because I will be using it in The Blight, along with The Weavers (Richard Pett's other adventure set in The Styes.)

Yea, it does.  I had actually figured out a way to work in the old temple of Posidon from the old Dragon magazines (the first high level adventure I ever played) but where one door closes another opens and I'm now running a pulp cthulhu and that has been a blast so far!

Ok finally, Final Enemy

Once again, spoilers ahead if your a player for this particular adventure.

Now this adventure is mostly a recon mission, as the town of Saltmarsh & it's aquatic allies need to know what they are fighting & how to hit them at their weak points. Since this is the main objective, I'm not going to give everything a physical miniature. I'm only going to give certain ones like the 2 leaders (Baron Kepmak & Baroness Seklaz for example.) So here is what I'll be using.

Wandering Patrol:

champion x1 (most likely this will be either be a Nolzur's Unpainted figure or a stl file from The DM's Workshop aka Miguel Zavala on Shapeways, they are free files if you are signed in.)

coral smasher x1 (same as the champion)

sahuagin x 5 (most likely these will just be Reaper bases with metallic Sharpie numbers)

Rooms with encounters:

Level 1

1. North Entrance and Guard Post

sahuagin x5 (Reaper base with Silver sharpie #s)

coral smasher x2 (Reaper base with blue metallic Sharpie #s)

champion x1 (most likely this one will be the miniature)

2. Guard Post

sahuagin x2 (may or may not get minis or bases with #s)

portcullis x1 (I have Litko scenery pieces for this, shows the room is closed)

12. Guard Post

sahuagin x5 (base with numbers)

coral smasher x2 (base with different color of numbers)

priestess x2 (this will probably be minis from The DM's Workshop)

portcullis1 (again Litko piece)

19. Hall

coral smasher x4 (bases)

champion x1 (Nolzur's mini)

priestess x1 (DM's Workshop)

sahuagin x2 (bases)

Level 2

23. Champions’ Quarters

champion x2 (See room #12)

priestess x2 (See room #12)

24. Living Quarters

sahuagin x25 (bases, but I'm just gonna tell my players, if they wanna engage them, feel free fools!)

coral smasher x5 (bases)

champion x3 (bases or Nolzur's)

25. Hatchery

sahuagin hatchling swarms x3 (working on trying to get a picture sized for a 2 inch base, if not 2 inch base from Reaper will work)

26. Hatchery

sahuagin hatchling swarms x2 (See Room #25)

priestess x2 (See Room #12)

27. Barracks

champion x1 (Nolzur's)

sahuagin x25 (bases or just tell my players)

coral smasher x25 (bases or just tell my players)

wave shaper x1 (I haven't found this one yet, but maybe the unarmed one from Nolzur's or a stl file)

28. Wave Shaper’s Quarters

wave shaper x1 (See #27)

29. Barracks

champion x2 (Nolzur's)

sahuagin x10 (bases)

coral smasher x6 (bases)

deep diver x4 (Bones Tiik 77186, they even got the lure!!)

shell shark x4 (stl file or Brine shark (from Pathfinder Battles) or Reaper shark minis or bases)

30. Champion’s Quarters

champion x1 (Nolzur's)

34. Priestess’s Quarters

priestess x1 (See Room #12)

shell shark x4 (See Room #29)

37. Temple

Maw of Sekolah x1 (Huge base or stl file I found on thingiverse)

priestess x3 (see Room #12)

39. Occupied Shark Pen

shell shark x10 (see #29)

40. Nearly Empty Shark Pen

Shern (lobster) x1 (I found a stl file for this guy)

42: Throne Room

Baron Kepmak (baron type, so 4 arms. I'm gonna use the Tiik Baron on a large base from Reaper #77212)

Thadrah (High Priestess, so I'm using the Reaper Miniatures Domnu of the Slithe 02219)

champion x2 (Nolzur's or bases)

sahuagin x1 (base)

shell shark x2 (see Room #29)

45. Sleeping Quarters of the Baroness

Baroness Seklaz (see Room #42)

wave shaper x1 (Nolzur's unarmed or base)

sahuagin x1 (base)

Level 3

48. Barracks

champion x1 (Nolzur's)

coral smasher x4 (base)

deep divers x2 (See Room #29)

wave shaper x1 (see Room #45)

50. Torture Chamber and Dungeon

champion x3 (Nolzur's or base)

Borgas (locathah/ally) (He'll be either stl file or a prepainted D&D mini)

50b. Sea Lion Cell

Sea Lion (Either Reaper Sea Lion on a large base or Pathfinder Battles sea cat)

50d. Triton Cell

Kysh (A triton ally. I was able to pick up a prepainted triton at my FLGS last year for dirt cheap price & I stuck a metal shield on him as the version I have looks goofy without it)

51. Large Armory and Stores

Shell shark x5 (see Room #29)

53. Arena

Blademaster Makaht (Anther of the named leaders, I'm gonna use the Tiik Champion (#77187) from Reaper to rep this big baddie)

champion x5 (Nolzur's)

sahuagin x49 (Yah, I'm just gonna tell the players here, unless they move into action which they give numbers for & it's not all of them at once)

54. Barracks

sahuagin x20 (either tell my players or bases)

55. Champions’ Quarters

champion x2 (Nolzur's)

56. Chamber of the Wave Shapers

wave shaper x2 (Nolzur's unarmed)

sahuagin x6 (base)

shell shark x2 (See Room #29)

57. Wave Shaper’s Quarters

wave shaper x1 (Nolzur's unarmed)

58. Guard Post

champion x2 (Nolzur's)

sahuagin x6 (base)

59. Abandoned Guard Post

champion x1 (see Room #58)

sahuagin x1 (see Room #58)

60. Temporary Barracks

(This room I'll just tell my players by the time they get here, they should be sick of sahuagin. )

wave shaper x2

deep diver x4

champion x7

coral smasher x10

sahuagin x45

Now the assault part of the adventure will probably just be the same, depending on the room's contents.

Simple way to do this adventure, but there is no way I'm buying/bring that mini sahuagin miniatures!!

Onward to Tammeruat's Fate!
